T’was The Night Before Christmas

T’was the night before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse (a really good thing)….

I feel like I need to end some of my “Christmas Posts” with something very special to me. As we all settle down for a “long winter’s nap’…We reflect upon what truly means the most to all of us…family. So I wish my family, friends, and all those great “friends” who I have had the greatest pleasure to meet over blogland, the most Merry Christmas. I love you all!

IMG_2796

My precious Granddaughter, Graylyn..bidding you “and to all a good night”…

IMG_2802

Last year it read, “Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”..This year our granddaughter asked why it said Virginia and not Graylyn. I then told her the story of Virginia. My hubby immediately changed the name to Graylyn where it will remain from now on…

A view of my front door…had forgotten to post some of these photos. As the front of my house faces west, it is hard to grab a pic without some shading from the porch. Maybe Santa will bring me a new camera and it will help with that! :)

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!

Oh Christmas Tree…

I love having multiple trees in my home for Christmas. It is fun and rewarding decorating them and finding ways to make them different from year to year. Other than changing out ribbon and other decorative floral adornments, my large tree pretty much is the same as it is my sentimental family tree full of ornaments gathered over many years. I collected many Hallmark ornaments in the past and I have displayed many of them in the tree in the media room. Many I have stored away…

So the following are many (not all) of the trees I have throughout the house. I always say from year to year that I am not going to do as much..but I cannot seem to live up to that promise.

IMG_2691

The Great Room Tree…It is 12 foot and we had to place the lower branches into the ballaters so that it would fit in the area..the lower branches hang over the stair well and you can see the ornaments dangle.

IMG_2707

I placed my carolers around the tree as if they are singing around a tree in a town square.

IMG_2706

IMG_2712

Among my more sentimental ornaments, I love to use Christopher Radko ornaments.

IMG_2705

I add a garland of ribbon, usually two (a metallic over a flocked) that will connect to a large bow and various ornamental picks.

IMG_2702

My upside down tree in the sun room. It is flocked and I used red ornaments with glass crystal icicle ornaments. The red shows up so nicely against the white flocking. Owls are perfect for that woodland look. I place berry floral picks and garland at the front top edge.

IMG_2703

The base of the tree with pine cones, holly sprigs and a “visitor” the infamous furry squirrel.

IMG_2704

IMG_2749

The kitchen tree with Santa take out chefs. This has been there for the past few years, so I will change that around a bit next year.

IMG_2750

IMG_2752

The small vintage cookie cutter tree that sits in an old A&P grocery shopping cart.

IMG_2733

The media room tree decorated with Hallmark ornaments and a few handmade ones by my son many years ago..

IMG_2736

The topper…with silk ferns and hydrangeas. I used a metallic glittered garland band that twists nicely amid the tree.

IMG_2729

The corner wall mounted upside down tree…I used brown and copper ornaments to coordinate with the mantle. Floral and leaf inspired picks are inserted on the top portion of the tree.

IMG_2730

A close up of the top portion of the tree

IMG_2433

When decorating the top portion of the 12 foot tree, I place (actually my hubby does) it in a bench with a vice so that I can decorate it completely from the workbench. The hubby climbs up the ladder and places the top portion in the tree fully decorated. Saves me from being up on the very top of the ladder!

IMG_2732

A Hallmark miniature tree purchased many years ago and a train goes around the base of the tree…a favorite of my granddaughters.

IMG_2722

My granddaughter’s tree. It is a themed tree every year of her choice. This year it is Legos..

IMG_2725

The toy shop village made of legos..The tree and village sits in an antique wagon

IMG_2720

An old Dept 56 faux “feather tree” with white and gold acorns. A symbol of Raleigh, the City of Oaks. Sits on the dresser of the guest room.

IMG_2671

The tree in the Master Bedroom. I wrapped a lighted white flocked garland around it and placed silver ornaments and decorations on it.

IMG_2672

A close up..I also used up all the silver ornament hangers I had. I thought they were cute by themselves.

IMG_2519

The guest room tree..A metal tree with a brass finish. I added the green berried twig garland through the middle to add a bit more texture. Used white, blue, and green ornaments to coordinate the colors with the room. Added a few owls for more texture…

IMG_2523

IMG_2522

Placed white glutted ferns and antique Japanese fishing net balls that are green and blue under the tree

IMG_2742

A small nutcracker tree in my hubby’s office. Only able to take picture from one side as the window creates such glare…

IMG_2739

A magnolia and pearl tree in the other guest room.

IMG_2740

A closer look..I used magnolia floral stems and garlands with pearl picks. My friend Pam took those pearl picks, stuck them in a styrofoam wreath and turned out gorgeous..next project…

Creating Holiday Decorations

I do not do many “craft items” other than creating Christmas wreaths and swags for the various areas of my home and some that I have made for a Artisan/Craft show in our community. In the last couple of years I made several felted wool santas (sewn by hand) in various colors and sizes and some beaded crystal ornaments that I made at our “Crafty Chicks” group. The following are some wreaths and other decorative holiday items.

IMG_2727

I made this wreath utilizing the same green ribbon in the other bathroom and added hydrangeas, gold-wired willow like strands, berries and florals.

IMG_2602

I took this glass ornament with the snowflake pattern and added twigs to give it more of a woodland feel for the “woodland mantle”..

Basically my “craft projects” consists of floral wreaths and swags and an ornament here and there.

The Holiday Foyer

The following pictures are of the foyer. As you enter my home, you immediately see the 12 foot trees as it is actually part of the foyer. It was so large that we took some of the lower branches and pulled them into the banister. As you go down the stairs you can see the ornaments dangling over your head…

The banister garland is made of 2 swags of garland and a smaller swag that I placed in the center. I used the metallic ribbon bands that curl so well, a few faux clip on candles, birds (love them) and gold trumpets. Gold pinecone ornaments hang from the garland. A few evergreen floral picks of greens and pinecones add fullness.

My family of carolers used to be on a high ledge until I bought the 12 foot tree. I placed them around the tree as if they were caroling in the town square under a tree…

I have a secretary in the foyer..a little unusual for a foyer, but I believe it works well..I use the upper portion for display purposes and when you drop down the desk lid, it acts as a venue for keys, etc..this may be a new project after the New Year, maybe to change out this piece for another…hmmmm.

IMG_2648

I lined up beautiful cream colored poinsettias (Lowes Home Improvement @ $5.99 each) below the garland to create a pathway.

IMG_2646

Mantles Adorned for Christmas

When you live in South Florida, chances are that you do not have a fireplace. When we relocated to North Central Florida, I hit the jackpot in the new house as there were two fireplaces I could adorn for the holidays. Seven years ago, we relocated to North Carolina and when building our home, I made certain that I had to have at least two fireplaces so that I could decorate them!!..

Last year I decorated the Great Room fireplace in reds and greens, using many red poinsettias. This year I needed a change. I collected owls after Christmas last year (my granddaughter loves them and her room has an owl/woodland theme)..and decided to do softer colors with a woodland theme.

In the media room, I basically decorated the mantle in the same colors as last year using the same ribbon because I love it so much. I changed out the hurricanes and placed a white reindeer and white tree on each side the of the mantle.

My very accommodating husband agreed to place the grasscloth wallpaper on the back of the bookcases in the media room. What a guy..he had enough on his plate in getting the exterior ready for the tour and hung the wallpaper the night before the tour!!..I have seen this done in many places; however, when I saw STACY CURRAN OF CONSPICOUS STYLE DESIGN back her bookcases with the grasscloth, it was a no brainer.

IMG_2588

I used a basic green garland and added the white and gold trimmed poinsettias, assorted white ornaments, assorted silk floral branches, birds, and my mom’s crocheted snowflakes. The cute owls are perched on the mantle, white branches in the glass cylinder and the green glittery grapevine trees.

IMG_2587

IMG_2590

I used white floral grade branches and perched some of the owls on them. I took glass ornaments that had a snowflake design on them and filled them with twigs. I weighted the glass cylinder and filled with snow and Raz glittered balls.

Enchanted Christmas Woodland Tablescape

This year I decided to do an “Enchanted Woodland Tablescape” for the dining room table. I utilized my gold crystal deer and greenery and florals for the centerpiece. I placed birch branches in the center of the greenery that towered to the center of the chandelier. The branches were secured to the garland in the chandelier. Snowy acorns adorn the branches with glittered white string garland. I love the beautiful green pinecone inspired ornaments hung from the garland amongst the green poinsettias and white beaded twig garland.

My Christmas china is Lenox Holiday Tartan..I love all things fruit…Enjoy!
