What do I want to be, when I grow up…I am speaking on behalf of my blog..It only speaks in “blogish” so I am translating…

When I grow up…in a year or two or three…I’ll be happy as can be…like a birdie in a tree….

…..That was sung by the famous Shirley Temple

Well, that’s what my blog is singing right now…”When I grow up”….

Debbie-Doos Blogging and Blabbing Newbie Party
Mrs. Hines Class Show and Tell

When I grow up..I want to be a computer whiz like my granddaughter…So sessions with my computer guru son

and lessons from the great and powerful people from Apple..I shall move forward…but in the meantime…

…I shall heed to the CEO of Housepitality Designs….

When I grow up…I want a new look…A Header as they call it in blogland…Should I go blonde?

For as you know…”BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN”…(ask my friend Linda) OR…maybe just some highlights…

….OR..maybe a “haircut” for a cleaner, fresher look…they say less is more…

When I grow up…I want to learn to take REALLY GREAT PHOTOS..You know..the ones that people say..

…Wow, that looks like a picture postcard…OR…Wow, that picture belongs in a magazine…

But, in order to accomplish that..you, GOTTA TAKE THE CAMERA OUT OF THE BOX!!..Really now…..

When I grow up…I want to “meet” many blog friends thru their beautiful postings they obviously create from the heart…I would like to share not only our many projects, anything that makes a house a home, but most of all…our joys, our laughters and our tears. So how do I do this? Shall I run for office? Or maybe run away from my office..Heaven knows that I have certainly spent a lot of time in “my office” at the computer lately…

…Maybe I can nominate myself for the “blog that could”..I think I can, I think I can……

At my “young age”, I have not established many followers, but the friendships that I have made thus far through blogging, I would not trade for a million followers…

What is that saying?…”One good friend is worth more than a million acquaintances….” Is that the actual quote, or did I just make that up?…

So this leads me to the 5th Goal: I saved the BEST FOR LAST…

…BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE!…

I want to quote several lines from my favorite song…It is written by Mark D. Sanders and Tia Sillers..

……………………………………….I HOPE YOU DANCE…………………………………

1558538445

“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder…

…You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger…

….I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance…

…..Never settle for the path of least resistance…

……Livin’ might mean takn’ chances, but they’re worth taken…

So, what do I want my blog to be when it grows up…..”A DANCER”….

  1. Great post, Shirley and very well written. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and taking a little peek inside your head!

  2. Ok. So when you get a new header can I have yours? I LOVE it. I was thinking of asking you where it came from when I read that you wanted another. I think it is already superb! I think this whole day of reading posts is going to be me thinking “oh, I should have said that” or “I want that too!” I wish you the best.

  3. I loved this Shirley! Is your adorable granddaughter really tech savvy? That is so cute!
    Stacy

  4. What a great post!! I enjoyed reading about your ‘ambitions’…lol! You are well on your way!!

  5. Okay, before I comment on your lovely goals … can I email you offline with my mailing address? Because you can just right on and pack up that amazing DSLR STILL IN THE BOX and ship it on off to me. I will take it out of the box …

… and then have my teen son read the manual and tell me how to work it!

    ๐Ÿ™‚

Great goals and thanks so much for linking up!

    Linda

  6. Linda Miller says:

I think it’s probably a lot more fun to never grow up. And if you want to find out if blondes really do have more fun, I know a good hairdresser who can take care of that for you! But, I like you just the way you are.

  7. Hey, you’ve got a lot of fun things to work on, but don’t worry about growing up….it’s not a requirement!

  8. Well, I think you are certainly on the road to being what you want to be, Shirley! It’s also a growing process. Sometimes how you start out only gets better and more mature with time, just like us as people!

  9. This is a really good post, Shirley. I love the way you interject humor. I have no doubt that you will accomplish all of your goals and then some!

  10. Loved your post! I cannot handle a complex camera, I just edit a lot! Cute little CEO~
    Bristol

  11. Your post made me smile. My camera has made it out of the box but learning how to use it properly? That’s a whole different ballgame!

  12. Shirley,

I think this is my favorite post you have ever written! So fun and energetic and wonderful (just like you)! And with that CEO at the helm…..your blog is going places. Hope your trip to the dentist went well ๐Ÿ™‚

    blessings,
    karianne

PS That is my favorite song, too!

  13. What a great post. You sound so fun I’m glad I found your blog through this link party can’t wait to watch your blog grow,

  14. Oh, oh, oh. It’s another photography goal. I did NOT put that on my list. It scares me too much. Should be there. ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Ditto on the you have a great header comment … such a lovely pattern and colors! I’m a fellow poster in the “grow up” party and maybe we can encourage each other to learn our new cameras? {I assume yours is relatively new since it is still in the box} Although mine is the D5100 I love it but am considering trading it in for the D7000 model you have because those controls are on the camera not on the LCD … so, just saying, you’ve got a great camera waiting for you … take it out for a spin!

  16. Shirley! This is such an awesome post! But man, get that baby out of the box already! ๐Ÿ™‚ And then teach me how to take great photos with a series as you learn!

BTW – I am in love with that song…we played it at my grandfather’s funeral a few years back, such an awesome message!

    I hope you dance,
    Karah @ thespacebetweenblog

  17. Mary Jo Sell says:

Shirley – you have taken more than the “first step”. Your blog is warm and creative and
encouraging to all those with limited creative skills. You inspire with your enthusiasm and
you are able to connect with all the “strangers” that will cross your path in this wonderful
    endeavor. Well done!! Mary Jo

  18. Shirley – love this! I can get down to bad 80’s songs like nobody’s business – so maybe I can teach my blog some of my dance moves!

Love your colorful header – she’s a definite red head with spunk and personality (blonde is so overrated)!!

Glad you joined our party! Of course, I am a new Linky follower too.
    Kelly

  19. I know what you mean, I am trying to grow my blog too. I have changed headers and the cosmetics of it a few times only because I just didn’t like the aesthetics of it and figured that was why I wasn’t getting the “friends” and “followers”. I recently just changed again but this time I really like my new look and at least it appeals to me even if it doesn’t to anyone else. So finally I am through with those changes (I hope). March 15 will by my one year blogiversary and I now have 74 followers, but I hardly ever get comments or feedback. It looks to me like you are doing pretty well. Just looking at the amount of comments from this one post (which is more than I have gotten on any post except one) your blog is growing pretty. So here’s to you and growing up, good luck to you and your bloggy endeavors. Your newest follower. I hope you will stop by my blog for a visit and tell me what you think about my new look.

  20. Hi Shirley,

This is such a cute post!! You probably expressed the same thoughts that a lot of other bloggers have. I enjoyed seeing the pictures of your lovely home. I’m always glad to discover a fellow North Carolina blogger. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for your visit last week and your kind comments on my Reynolda Gardens post. I’m now a follower on your blog.

    Have a great weekend!

    Denise

  21. Love that song “I Hope You Dance”. Loved your post to. Your little “techie” is adorable. Get the camera out of the box already and be the best you can be! Glad to have stopped by. I’m headed of to click on follow and see what you have in store for us!

  22. This is so well-written and personable that it really gives us insight into the personality of the grandma of the CEO of Housepitality Designs. This entry sings warmly of your aspirations and dances with your good humor. YOu know how to dance.

  23. Loved this post, Shirley! Loved your sense of humor. Do we really want our blogs to grow up? I’m just enjoying the friendships and relationships that are the perks of blogging.

  24. The Polka Dot Closet says:

You have a lot of the same grown up goals I do! I have figured out my Apple though and I LOVE it! A former Florida girl! It was 90 down here today, but it will cool off this weekend. Keep your head down, the evening news said you have some nasty storms headed your way!!

    Carol

  25. I’m your newest fan from the blog hop and your assistant is just adorable

  26. I wouldn’t worry about growing up~I think when I was growing my blog, I just knew what I liked about the blogs I visited and what I didn’t. I wanted nice photos, cuz I think people are more visual on blogs. So I worked on that~find out what it is you want to work on and then just do it. Ha~sounds like a Nike ad….

  27. What a fun post! I want to do alot of those same things when I grow up. I may be a computer dummy, but I am blonde (L’Oreal to cover the grey) now days, and I sure am having fun!
    Hugs,
    Jann

  28. What a fun post! And I’ll bet you achieve everyone of your goals!

  29. Such a perfect post. I love it. I want to be a dancer too!!! Hugs, Marty

  30. Love it! Your blog, although still in need of a translator, is very eloquent with its words, LOL

  31. fabulous goals! and yes, taking the camera out of the box does help, i find. ๐Ÿ˜‰
    i love the last one!

  32. very interesting and inspiring! i ENJOYED EVERY WORD OF THIS NEW POST.

  33. Ah, Shirley, I love this!! We’re all taking baby steps in some fashion aren’t we? I call my teenagers “tech support” because they are constantly explaining/showing me all things techinical — and they expect to be paid! I mean, really?? ๐Ÿ˜‰
Be the best you can be, my fellow tribe member, and that’s perfect for me. ๐Ÿ™‚
    blessings,
    Heidi

  34. You’re certainly on the right path, Shirley! Your blog is beautiful! Love the paisley header. You figured out the link party resource way faster than I did! I’m still trying to figure out a less time consuming way to join multiple parties, faster. I love the learning process though. Just hope they don’t change the rules, when I finally figure it out! Best to you, Barbara

  35. Thank you for sharing this great post at my Show & Tell party today. I suppose if your header were to “go blonde”, that means it is a brunette now. I vote for staying true to your natural color! ๐Ÿ˜‰
