To Honor The Best….

DSC_1713

My Dad…he was the best….

IMG_2576

He taught us kids…to respect…to love…to honor…

……OUR COUNTRY!

For, this country IS the best……

……and this week we honor….the best of the best.

DSC_1729

We honor those who fought for our freedoms….

……and sacrificed their lives….lives that could have been…the lives that should have been…..

……SO WE CAN LIVE OUR LIVES AND RAISE OUR FAMILIES, IN TRUTH…WITH NOTHING TO FEAR….

DSC_1730

BUT FEAR ITSELF….

To walk in the comfort of knowing that we can be the best we can be….

……to make our dreams a reality…..to hitch a wagon to a star.

DSC_1721

We thank you….our service men and women….we thank you for your service to our country…..

…..We thank your families for their sacrifice…..their loss…our loss,

…………of wonderful unselfish men and women

…………………….who gave their lives, so that we can live….in peace.

To live in this great land of beauty and magnificence…..

…..of bountiful farms….of bustling cities….of majestic mountains soaring toward the skies….

…..of rivers flowing…..and lakes that sparkle in the morning sun…..

…..of babies taking their first breath..

…………….. as the beginning of their journey of a wonderful life.

DSC_1717

For this….we thank you….thank you for your sacrifice.

DSC_1718

I hope that my dad is looking down at me…from the beautiful heavens…and saying that he is proud…..

……of how I treasure my freedom….my country…that I live my life, to love, and respect, and honor….

……they way that he taught me…with the utmost integrity.

  2. Shirley,

What a beautiful post! And a heartfelt thank you to your dad for helping to protect this wonderful country and our amazing freedoms! I am positive he is looking down at you proud as a peacock!

And I’m so glad I’ve “hitched my wagon to your star” …

What a thoughtful, timely post for our men and women in the service. Great Picture of your dad. Just think, if your dad hadn’t served over in Japan, he never would have met your beautiful mother. Sometimes wonderful things come out of horrific duty for our country.

  4. Very well said, Shirley. Too many people don’t truly realize the sacrifice of the military members and their families. Happy Memorial Day to you, my friend!

  5. Shirley~ I love your wagon planter and the sentiment! I’m humbled by the sacrifice of our military men and women and so thankful for our freedoms! Wishing you a peaceful and restful Memorial Day weekend :)

  6. Shirley thank you for this honor to our country and those who serve for us!

Shirley, very well said and I am sure your Dad is looking down at you and beaming with pride. I miss my Dad, too and am thankful for the sacrifices he made for our country and the values he taught me. They were the greatest generation.

  8. Worthy sentiments, beautifully expressed Shirley! I agree 100 percent. How fortunate we are that men (and women) like your father served, and continue to serve our country to preserve our freedoms. Thank you for the reminder that this coming weekend is not just about an extra day off from work and cookouts in the backyard. Bless you for passing on your father’s pride in, and dedication to, our country.

Your porch looks lovely and so patriotic; thanks so much for sharing. And thank you for your visit and kind comments on my kitchen progress. One of these days I will have a finished product to show you. :)

    Hugs,

    Denise

  9. That’s right…..Memorial Day is this weekend. I almost forgot with everything I have going on around here. I will have to put some flags out too. Yours look nice on your porch. It is a time to remember the great sacrifices that our service men and women made for us.

  10. This hits home for me (you should read my post today). I’m sure your dad is looking down and smiling at you :) I think the flags on your porch look awesome!! It’s easy for people who don’t have any relation to the military to forget what they are sacrificing, so thank you for recognizing and honoring our country’s men and women! I hope you have a great Memorial Day!

  11. AMEN TO THAT!!!

  12. Shirley I absolutely adore that wagon planter. Your porch looks so beautiful and so festive. Thanks for sharing with the block party going on. BTW…I love that scale too, we have the very same one!

  13. What a beautiful post, Shirley. You are so eloquent. I love the wagon planter too!

  18. OMGosh, I don’t know how I missed this. You Daddy must have been a wonderful man and citizen. In his absence, let my thank you for his service. This was a beautiful post and tribute to him and the other wonderful citizens who have served our country in the military. Thank you for sharing him with us. He taught you well. Blessings, Ginger
