Tagging along…

Hubby had clients to see in D.C….

…..so I tagged along.

He saw clients all day for the first day, so I just stayed in the hotel room, catching up…

…..on things I never seem to have time to do..

……….read and watch TV :)

The next day, we headed home….

And look what we see….yes, Wegmans!…The Grocery Store Mecca…of course I had to go in!

IMG_2627

Just wish we had one in N.C.!!

AND… on our way home, we pass through Leesburg, Virginia…

Now…do you know where I am headed????

IMG_2643

LUCKETTS !!!…I made it !!

IMG_2628

As you can see, it was a beautiful day!

IMG_2630

And lots of great stuff to see…

IMG_2631

And even some things for hubby to see…he is perusing some old golf clubs…

And here’s a few snipits….

And then after seeing all the great things outdoors…I ventured inside….

IMG_2636

…..and came upon Miss Mustard Seed’s fabulous items….

Too bad the secretary would not fit in the car.

IMG_2637

Other “pretties” of hers….

We then left to go downtown to grab some lunch….

……after a wonderful lunch, I spotted an antique store on our way out of town….STOP!!!..

The shop was wonderful.. antiques from Europe: however, mostly from Germany…

IMG_2645

There was an entire room dedicated to German grain sacks and linens….

IMG_2646

But then look what I found!….

IMG_2648

The store owner called it a “wine balloon”…I guess that is what they call the basket weaved wrapped demijohns.

It was huge…they had other smaller ones…but we liked this larger one…I loved the two-toned color of the weave.

I did not take many pictures inside….I was unsure how they felt about it…

So here is my stash…my treasures of the day….

I picked up the old chair with the missing seat and the milk glass candle holders from Lucketts…

The “wine balloon” and old basket…from the antique shop, German Favorite Antiques….

And this is where they ended up..at least for now….

The chair will be repainted a pretty bright color…this is my future potting bench area…

Clipped more hydrangeas this morning….

So that was my wonderful day out with my hubby…a beautiful day…as we ventured home…

I am joining the following lovely parties:

Comments

  1. What a fabulous trip home! Just love your scores …. that chair is just darling and the demijohn … not even sure what that is … but it looks great. And I like that they called it a wine balloon. I like anything with wine in the name. Like white wine. And red wine. And Pinot Grigio wine. So I would pour myself a glass of wine and admire my wine balloon …
    :)

And you hydrangeas look fake! They are too perfect and the color is just amazing! But N.C. is a seriously lush and colorful state. I visited once and that’s what I remember most. The greens are so deeply and richly green …

  2. Wow, what a great day of shopping and i love that wine basket. Geez, great finds. That hydrangea is unbelievable! Wish I had been there, too. Tommy is such a patient, wonderful husband!

  3. I know Wegman’s though we don’t have them here on Lng Island. A blogger used to post the pretty dishes she found there.
Never heard of Lucketts. Great finds, we don’t call them demijohns either. :)
Anxiously waiting for my hydrangeas to bloom. I think I have more than 40 of them!

  4. Aren’t you lucky your hubby will stop at such places? Mine speeds up if he even thinks I might want to spend a few minutes browsing! Finding your treasures made it all worth while.

  5. Oh, lucky you. I want to go there so bad. I must some time. Maybe in the fall. Look at all those grain sacks. Love your demijohn. Nice size and shape.

  6. Great finds, Shirley! How exciting ~ you went to Lucketts! I read about it all the time on blogs.

  7. I SOOOO want to go to Lucketts!!!! I adore that “wine ballon” aka, demijohn:) I am wondering if it was really expensive, the ones I have found online all are, darn it! Sounds like a great trip. XO, Pinky

  8. Shirley,

I am on my phone so I just googled your page. Google said….you have visited this page many times…LOL!

Of course I have….for great inspiration like this :)

Have an awesome day my wonderful friend!
    karianne

  9. Sounds like a fabulous time. Love your treasures and a stroll thru Lucketts would be so fun. Hugs, Marty

  10. What a fabulous trip and to get great finds is even better plus to get to go to Lucketts. What more could you want, other than the beautiful secretary. Too bad you couldn’t tie it on top the car. HA!!

  11. Linda Miller says:

Okay, my BFF, I’m seriously hating you right now. I wanted to buy a demijohn when we were in Napa but Jeff said “no”. He said that we could not fly home with it and I could find one at HomeGooods. Well, I’m still waiting and craving one. i’m sure I will find one eventually but until then, I’m very jealous!!!

  12. Love, love, love your finds. I would have been dangerous in there. Thanks for the tour.

  13. Wow! You got to go to the infamous Luckett’s Store?! I’m so jealous! I love what you found. That demijohn is huge! I would’ve gone nuts in that German store with all of those old burlap sacks. You look so pretty standing outside with your lucky find too.

  14. WOW Shirley LOVE that demijohn!! You came home with some great finds and lucky you going to Lucketts! That is definitely on my “to go list”!

  15. You found some amazing treasures! Thanks for taking us to Luckett’s! Your demijohn is the largest one I have ever seen; I love it!

  16. I always wondered what Lucketts looked like since I had read so much about it. Thanks for showing your pics of it. I love that fabulous demijohn along with your other goodies.

  17. What a great day Shirley and super finds!! Wow I would have wanted that fab piece from our Miss Mustard Seed as well!

  18. Glad you had a nice little break! Love your finds!! have to say that the first thing that came to mind when I saw your chair with the hole in it was that it would be perfect for an outhouse – lol!

    Have a great week! xox

    • shirley@housepitalitydesigns says:

Anne…you crack me up…always…! Now did I say I am going to put the chair next to the Potting Bench or Potty Bench?…hmmm

  19. Barb McDermott says:

We loved Wegman’s and now want to go to Lucketts!! Some fabulous finds!! You have great taste Shirley!

  20. I see why you are so thrilled with your finds! Love that demijohn – never heard it referred to as a wine balloon! But then again, I don’t discriminate against anything with the word wine in it!
    Kelly

  21. Isn’t it fun to tag along every now and then? Can you believe I have not heard of either of these stores? I do know about Miss Mustard Seed though. Thank goodness, other wise you would never believe I had a blog. lol! I love the little conservatory built out of old windows. You brought home some fun items and can’t wait to see the chair after you add the color.
    Hugs,
    Jann

  22. I’m so glad that you made it to Lucketts! Love all of your finds, especially the demijohn.

  23. Great finds. Love them all. What was in the bags on the secretary at Miss Mustard Seeds?
    Just curious…

  24. Shirley~ What great finds, I love the wine balloon! I could poke around for hours at Lucketts :)

  25. I love your demijohn. I found one in a street market in France last year and carried it all the way home. Love it too.

  26. Great finds and a great idea for that bench. I love that you got some great shopping in!!

    Cynthia

  27. I think your best find was your husband! What a handsome devil! And sweet, to go treasure hunting with you! I love get-away weekends with my true-love, when we take a different road home and hit an antique jackpot, like you did!

  28. Shirley, what great finds! That demijohn is AWESOME! I would have been all over that one, too! Looks like you had a fun time! You always find the greatest pieces!

  29. Wow I love that wine balloon!! How cool is that?! I can’t wait to see your chair all bright!

  30. You lucky dog. You got to go to Luckett’s. The demijohn is a great find. I used to have a couple similar to that one, but alas, have sold them.

  31. LUCKY Little lady you are there Shirley! Gosh that looks fun. Hey we love Wegmans too, best grocery store ever. So wish we had one here. When we go back home to Buffalo, we frequent the place and get lost in there too.

  32. I actually heard about Wegman’s on some talk radio show a week or two ago. They opened one about 1 1/2 hours from me, and people were flocking to it. I wish we had one closer!!
    Stacy

  33. Linda@Coastal Charm says:

Thanks for sharing your goodies at my party, but I will say…I am sooooo jealous that you went to Lucketts without me. I really want to shop there one day.

    Blessings,
    Linda

  34. Oh don’ you just love Lickett’s? I went once and definitely will go back. Love your huge demijohn….

  35. What a perfect day, Shirley! we don’t have Lucketts or Wegmans! Your treasures are fabulous, I would have been there for hours trying to choose!

  36. Shirley, I am trying to catch up. Seems I am always behind on visiting. One day I finish the email, then it is past a hundred again. Scares the heck out of me.
It looks like you had a wonderful time on your trip. I love your candlesticks. I have seen those before and they are gorgeous. Love the demijon and basket. Your chair is so cute. I am looking forward to seeing what you do.
I found a chair on the curb one day, picked it up and sat it right outside my back door to the garage, waiting for a coat of paint. Well, the next day the garbage man came by and the chair disappeared. It wasn’t even near the service yard. I decided it was karma and the chair WANTED to go to the dump.
    Love to you, Ginger

  37. Shirley, I meant to tell you! Go back with a truck and get that secretary. WOW!
    xo

  38. Just fabulous Shirley! Looks like y’all had a fabulous day. I would love to visit Luckets some day. As always thanx for coming to party!

  39. Your finds are great but lets talk Wegmans I grew up in the birthplace of Wegmans and know it from it’s beginnings it was so cool to see u say I saw a Wegmans and had to go in…. I do the same thing but I have never found one except when we go back home to NY… They are just awesome I wish they would expand West
Love the Weaved wine jug so pretty

  40. I LOVE Wegmans! I first got introduced to it 11 years ago when my sister got married and moved to NY. It’s a grocery store that just makes you want to grocery shop! A few weeks ago a made a road trip with my family to visit my sister and my aunt came along. One of the days my sister made a trip to Wegmans and invited my aunt to join her. I told my aunt she will enjoy Wegmans… and sure enough she came back in love with the place. Sounds funny to say that since it’s just a grocery store..LOL! Here in Illinois we have nothing special… the best we’ve got is Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods:P

Now on to some antique shopping talk… Is Luckett a famous antique shop that I should know about? What am I missing out on? :P It looks like it has some great stuff! And I’m loving the European antique shop. Is that in Virginia too? Should I be making a trip out to Virginia for some antique shopping? :D

  41. A girl after my own heart! That looks like a dream trip to me!

It’s fantastic that your hubby seems to enjoy it so much as well. (Mine will tolerate it, but does not love it like I do…)

    Thanks so much for sharing!

    xo-Lisa

  42. Wegmans is the closest grocery store to my house. I love Wegmans as well as my husband. In fact, he often volunteers to go shopping for me. Could it be all the free samples?
