TRADER JOE'S ORCHIDS

Dear Trader Joe,

You certainly know what you doing….

…..you strive to make your customers happy…with happy workers…always smiling…ringing that bell!!…

But, really…you know what you are doing….

…..because when we first walk through your doors, we smile.

We smile at those beautiful flowers that greet us…saying welcome!

But lately, I have really been gravitating to your beautiful orchids….

I always have at least one blooming orchid in my house….

…..but they make me so happy, that I have to spread the “happiness” throughout the rooms.

And, at the great price of $12.99…you cannot go wrong.

This beautiful pink orchid has been blooming for at least 2 months…

…..so, you can have this beauty, that makes you smile, for a little over $1.50 a week…:)

  1. Great post and great pictures. Love the orchid.

    Cynthia

  2. Very pretty! I stop in to Trader Joe when I see one. Closest is over an hour away, boo hoo!
    Enjoy your orchid.
    Happy Seasonal Sunday!

  3. Shirley, look at you! The blogger conference sounds so exciting. I can’t wait to hear more about it. Now, on to the orchids. I recently received one as a gift, but have no idea how to care for it. What tips can you give me?

    • shirley@housepitalitydesigns says:

Sharon….I water mine once a week by “flushing” them under running water from the tap or filtered water…make certain it is fully drained … you can also place 3 ice cubes at the base of the plant once a week..I fertilize them with a “Peters” once month with a very diluted solution.

  4. Shirley, I better ge myself to Trader Joe’s!!! I love orchids and you CAN”T bea tha price. I know, I worked at a florist!!! Beautifl post. XO, Pinky

  5. I love orchids. They are so timeless and seem to fit into any decor. That is a great tip about the ice cubes. Great idea. Thx for sharing.

  6. I was just at TJs – I should have read your blog first! They are beautiful!

  7. Linda Miller says:

I love them, too. I have gotten them for as little as $10 at the grocery store. That’s just as reasonable as a bouquet of flowers and they last a lot longer. Then I don’t feel to guilty about throwing them away when they stop blooming. I just buy more.

  8. My son works at a Trader Joe’s and loves his job. I will pass this post on to him and hope he shares it with his coworkers. Unfortunately, I don’t live near a Trader Joe’s, but love them when I can go.

  9. Love your orchids and I can’t believe y’all are putting together a conference so quickly.

  10. Hey, if you think the orchids are good, try the dark chocolate covered almonds!

  11. Adore orchids!! I killed my first one, second one went a bit better but got spider mites from another plant and almost died – next one will last & last, I just know it!!

    xox

  12. Shirley~ I can always count on Trader Joe’s for flowers and I love how long orchids bloom! I use the 3 ice cube method of watering :)

  13. Lovely pictures, Shirley. Wish we had a Trader Joe’s here…

  14. Beautiful photos. Yes, I love TJ’s too. I plan my trips around when I want flowers, not the food! Well, except when I am wanting chocolate…..I have never bought the orchids before, I need to do that.

  15. $12.99??? I’m going to day! THanks for the tip!
    Stacy

  16. Your orchids are gorgeous! I have never tried to grow one, but at that price, what the heck! We have to drive about 2 hours to get to the closest Trader Joes. Next time I’m near one, I’m going to check out their floral dept.

  17. I love Trader Joe’s, and yes, their floral displays get me every time. I am hoping to attend this conference. My name is on the list and I have been on the FB page. Visiting from SS. xo

  18. Orchids are beautiful and I love them. Wish we had a Trader Joe’s. Sometimes we can get nice ones at our Wal Mart or Lowes but usually they are past their prime when I find them.

Hope you will share highlights from the conference for those unable to attend.

  19. Ooo, I’ll be going right by a Trader Joes today — I’ll have to snap one of these beauties up! Curious to learn more about the conference, Shirley ~ you’ve been busy!
    xo Heidi

  20. How beautiful! I love them :) And congrats on setting up a big conference; you’ve got to be excited!! I just wish I lived closer! Oh and I went to Kristen’s blog…THANK YOU for giving me the link…she has great style!!

  21. Shirley, your orchids are gorgeous. I can never get mine to bloom again. How do you do it?

  22. I feel a trip to Trader Joe’s coming on…beautiful! Wish I could go to the conference, but I will be at the beach that weekend! Have a great week!…hugs…Debbie

  23. Oh, I just love your orchids! That’s a great price for one too. I have not been to a Trader Joe’s in a long time. Wish we had one near me. My poor little orchid is not blooming right now. I’m keeping it watered (of course only lightly) to keep it alive. It has the pretty green leaves at the bottom, but just a naked stem. I cut off the part that once held the flowers at the end. I looked up how to care for them online and was told that orchids have blooming cycles, so it doesn’t mean they’re dead if the flowers start falling off. Hopefully, that is what is happening to mine. We’ll see. I’m still very new with this whole live orchid thing. Ha!

  24. Those orchids are beautiful–and you’re right about Trader Joe’s–they know what they’re doing. I’m looking forward to the Southern Blogger’s Conference in Oct. Put me on the mailing list:)

  25. I LOVE LOVE your blog! It is so full of new ideas and brings me home in a sense. We are downsizing to a smaller lovely ranch/cottage in a small town in Texas. Do you share the paint color of the outside of your yellow house? I have over a dozen sample colors and none look right. I want White trim and could WISH or HOPE to have an East side space for some hydrangeas in this hot climate…..we’ll see. I also love how you show different areas of your decorating ideas with your treasures and collections. I will miss my big house but not the work at this age and will make the smaller house our haven! For me a new canvas to plan and paint! ALSO, I was going to give away my collection of tole painted trays, but saw yours on a wall!!!! What a perfect idea!!! Thanks!!

  26. Oh my goodness! I can’t believe you got to meet at those bloggers! You are so lucky! I love the orchid…..so sweet and timeless.

    blessings,
    karianne

  27. Shirley,

The orchids look just gorgeous in your home! They add such a fabulous touch to each room you have placed them in!

    The blog conference sounds amazing!!!

    xo-Lisa

  28. I so wish I could go to the conference Shirley. My boy is in full swing with the Marching band though and our weekends are filled with competitions at that time. Have fun. LOVE your Orchids. That is always my first stop too at Trader Joes.

  29. Your orchids are splendid! The conference sounds like fun! Thanks for sharing at Potpourri Friday!

  30. Your orchids are gorgeous! We don’t have Trader Joe’s in CO, but I’ve bought them at Costco before, love that they bloom forever!
