Fall Mantel … We Gather Together

I did it….

…..I just completed the Fall Mantel.

Yesterday, I met my friend Frances who monogramed “We Gather Together” for me…

…..she monogramed it on burlap.

I took my $1.00 frame I purchased several months ago and framed the inscription.

DSC_4612

I love that message of family and friends coming together for the holidays..

…..and every day for that matter.

DSC_4613

I gathered fall florals and arranged them on the mantel using command hooks to keep them in place…

DSC_4616

And could not forget the cute little squirrel that I received at our neighborhood “Tacky Gift Exchange”….

…..a party that we have after Christmas….to exchange tacky gifts that we had received.

Now, I do not consider “Sammy the Squirrel” tacky…was thrilled to get him!!

DSC_4603

The plates are the Fresco Bird plates from Pottery Barn…a set of 4 different designs.

DSC_4608

DSC_4614

DSC_4599

I added the pretty blue/green pumpkins and a faux pumpkin from Pottery Barn..

…..a giant iron acorn and mums from Trader Joe’s.

DSC_4623

DSC_4624

My hubby chuckles at the fact that I will take all this time to create the “mantelscape”….

…..only to take it down in two weeks to start my Christmas decorating….I start early…

……….it takes me that long!!

DSC_4625

The pillow in the chair is Pottery Barn…love that it coordinates with the plates.

DSC_4620

DSC_4622

So, mantel completed…and moving on to decorate the front porch…

DSC_4621

…..As Kim from Savvy Southern Style would say..

……….this is what it looks like now, there may be many tweaks in the future!

DSC_4493

I bought a beautiful set of fall plates from Pottery Barn…with my coupon!!

…..the $25 off of $50 purchase one!…:)

I placed my wooden pumpkins on top of the candlesticks and surrounded the base with reindeer moss.

DSC_4501

I added fall foliage and a pretty moss ball…

DSC_4498

A pretty pumpkin candle sits in an iron leaf plate…bought those years ago..

DSC_4500

Candlesticks from Pottery Barn too….

DSC_4494

DSC_4497

DSC_4495

I previously mentioned my Plush Velvet Pumpkins that I received as a gift from my sister…

…..I placed them on a mini cake stand…a place of honor.

DSC_4478

I placed a Fall inspired large ribbon tassel at the base…

DSC_4480

I so love the beautiful stems….

……my favorite is the one that looks like someone holding a branch…

DSC_4488

However, my granddaughter loves the one…

…..that looks like a dragon!

DSC_4483

And I so love the new leopard print!!

DSC_4492

But all in all…they are beautiful and I will treasure them forever…

Spring Forward…Fall Back

Falling back…

Well, that’s me….falling behind on the Fall decorating…

My weekend was very full of things for the more important things in life…

…..such as this:

IMG_2815

My granddaughter caught her first fish!!!!

While my son and daughter in law had a date night on Saturday…

…..our granddaughter had a sleepover and an outing the next day with us….

We took her to our friends’ weekend getaway….

DSC_4459

They built their “getaway” on his family property…

…..where they built a “Katrina Cottage” and dug this gorgeous pond and dock…

……….and stocked it with fish.

DSC_4446

DSC_4447

These houses were designed after Hurricane Katrina….

…..this is the cutest house.

I will do a post on the inside at a later date…

…..it is filled with family heirlooms…so beautiful!

As you can see, it was a gorgeous day in N.C.!!

DSC_4444

DSC_4437

Then the bigger bass was caught…

….and we were just a little bit intimidated!

DSC_4460

We noticed a flock of buzzards…

…..my friend Frances saw where they landed….

DSC_4463

When trying to get closer, they flew away…

…..would have made a great Halloween pic!

It was a beautiful momentous day….

and while we were “fishing”, Frances presented me with one of my Fall projects..

…..that she so graciously monogrammed for me…

……….always accommodating my last minute projects for me!!

DSC_4469

Stay tuned….

Saturday was the annual neighborhood Fall yard sales….

…..approximately 40 homes participated….

I went yard saleing in my neighborhood for the first time…

…..I was always a “seller” helping my D-I-L sell my granddaughters outgrown clothes and toys….

A snippet of what I found….

DSC_4466

And these darling plants that were sold by two little cuties:

DSC_4467

Their grandmother who lives in the neighborhood too is a wonderful gardener..

…..and heads up the Grounds Committee and our Crafty Chicks Group.

And speaking of Crafty Chicks….I am co-hosting this event this week….stay tuned…

…..I will be a very busy lady this week…so much going on….so little time…

But…as I have on my counter to remind me…..

DSC_4473

and…my granddaughter loves her “serpent gourd”….she drew eyes on it…

DSC_4426

And this morning…I tend to the remnants of a wonderful weekend with my granddaughter!

DSC_4471

She loves playing with my son’s old toys!!

Hope y’all had a wonderful weekend too!!!

A Small Step Toward Fall…

I seem to be very behind on Fall decorating this year….

…..committing to too many things in a short amount of time has caught up with me.

But today, I made the leap….

I went to my favorite local nursery/greenhouse/gift shop to pick up a few things…

…..and came home with this:

DSC_4410

They had gorgeous huge mums for $5.79….so I bought 14 of them…

…..I felt like I was in the “mum-mobile”.

DSC_4411

I bought some silks from the nursery, but picked up more fall decor on my way home for a real bargain…

…..story in the next post..

DSC_4414

I placed most of them in the front planter as I did last year…

…..the hedges need trimming..don’t tell hubby I took a picture of them…

……….for if you know my hubby, he would be horrified.

He has been very busy at work and travel…actually, he is on his way home from D.C. today :) yay!

I bought both yellow and rusty orange mums…

…..as many of the mums that have been planted in the yard from last year

………. are blooming yellow and orange.

DSC_4413

DSC_4416

So here is some of my “loot” for today…some items purchased from the nursery, and…..

…..some items I received for a real bargain on my way home….(again, story in next post) :)

DSC_4421

DSC_4423

Love the “straw like” flowers…

and more beautiful bargain loot….

DSC_4422

DSC_4424

Here is a peek of some of the things I will be doing:

DSC_4419

DSC_4420

So all in all, it was a good day…huge gorgeous mums for a great price, and beautiful bargain loot!!…

…..and what could be better on this beautiful Carolina blue sky day?….

……….me leaving to pick up hubby from the airport!!!…

Hope you had a wonderful day too!!!

Falling Back on Fall Decor?

It’s past the middle of September…

I have not taken out the first “Fall item” from the attic.

I could have this past weekend, but decided to take a trip…

…..to see my mom.

DSC_4346

She will be 87 in a couple of months and can run circles around all of us!

My mom lives with my sister in Florida….

….in the country….on an Air Ranch…

DSC_4396

DSC_4372

So glad that my son and granddaughter came along too..

…..with the start of a new school year, my daughter-in-law had to stay behind.

The “grandkids/cousins” made oreo cookie dessert….

…..I think they loved crushing the cookies!

DSC_4364

DSC_4334

And they spent countless hours in the fun and sun of the great Florida sunshine…

Water taxi anyone?

DSC_4355

When I said my sister lives in an air ranch…

…..that is a community of homes with airplane hangers on their properties…

……….and they all share a common runway.

My brother in law made a sign that leads to their property from an old wing of an airplane.

DSC_4394

DSC_4395

When you drive into their property, you will see a pond…

DSC_4390

….and the beautiful water lilies…

DSC_4389

Almost 5 acres of beautiful landscape….

DSC_4344DSC_4322

Where you will see moss hanging everywhere from the trees…

…..and fountains and cranes.

DSC_4317

It’s the “Old Florida”….the days gone by of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings…of Cross Creek and The Yearling.

DSC_4320

Where “love bugs” have captured the fascination of my granddaughter….

DSC_4331

Where you can walk your dog for miles without leaving your property….

DSC_4325

Where Cooper the Wonder Dog loves to explore…

DSC_4333

A life in the country…of “Old Florida”…where times stands still….

…..well sometimes.

DSC_4288

My sister shares my love for antiques…

DSC_4340

When you leave their property…you will see these views:

DSC_4313

DSC_4312DSC_4392

It says:

DSC_4393

And my sister made certain that I kick off my Fall Decorating by giving me this present…

…..of 4 Plush Pumpkins!!!

DSC_4406

A pumpkin with a leopard print, an orange one, a brown one, and a cute little green one…

DSC_4408

I love the new leopard velvet….

DSC_4404

The stems are so phenomenal..

DSC_4402

DSC_4401

So thanks Carol for my gorgeous pumpkins…and I am off to a great start for Fall Decorating!!!

My Sister Wanted a Floral Arrangement for her Birthday…

My sister has a beautiful new dining room set.

It is a formal dining room…with gorgeous detailed chairs…and upholstered seats.

The dining room table has a beautiful “real” inlaid pattern…awesome…

…..made by one of the few “hand made” furniture manufacturers left in the U.S.

So, it is only befitting that she have a beautiful centerpiece…

DSC_4202

I had a hard time finding the perfect planter…but I found this decorative covered container…
She can use it in it’s original state when she tires of the arrangement.

She sent me a piece of fabric from which to draw inspiration.

DSC_4205

I think it is a great match.

I gathered beautiful quality silks…

DSC_4208

DSC_4209

Time to put it all together…

DSC_4210

She loves feathers…so in they went….

DSC_4233

More peeks of the arrangement….

DSC_4238

So here we go..the big reveal…..are you ready Betty?..Hope you like it!!

DSC_4237

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY ANN!!!

And I hope you all like it too!

Domino Effect Part 3…

One more item to re-locate….the mirror that was hanging over the chest..

….that was here…

Entry into Kitchen

and the chest ended up here…less the mirror.

DSC_4174

And now the mirror landed here…

Guest Room Foyer

I placed the mirror in the foyer leading to the large guest room.

The plant stand made of granite and iron seemed to coordinate with the mirror very well.

Guest room foyer

I know, I know….

My hubby said it too….

Why do you place something in front of a mirror?

Guest room foyer mirror

Because it reflects whatever is in front of the mirror so beautifully….

…..and I am sure my guests appreciate not seeing themselves walk toward the room!

DSC_4253

I bought this plant stand at a showcase home charity auction….

I fell in love with the granite and iron combination..

DSC_4254

DSC_4253

And the pretty medallions…

DSC_4255

I believe the mirror is happy there…

DSC_4246

DSC_4242

So this closes the chapter to the past week’s “Domino Effect”….all’s well that ends well!!!

RELOCATING THE FURNITURE AND ACCESSORIES…the Domino Effect Part 2

So…the mirror that was located in the foyer needed a new home…

……….and the lamp too.

But the mirror and the lamp would not look good over this space:

Entry into Kitchen

So I “shopped the house”….

Searching for an appropriate piece of furniture for this area…

It had to be narrow.

Dining room side table

I thought this table may do the trick….

It actually is a sofa table that I purchased from Ethan Allen years ago..

I think this is the piece for this space.

Entry Wall to Kitchen

DSC_4131

I think I have convinced my hubby to paint the a/c and outlet covers to match the paint.
They really stand out on the wall…:(

DSC_4140

The table has enough length to accommodate all the accessories and lamp.

I originally had crystal serving pieces on the bottom shelf when it was in the dining room.

So I needed something to place on that shelf.

DSC_4132

So much for my zero dollars “domino effect”….

A trip to Hobby Lobby and 4 baskets later…I think it was just what this shelf needed!

I took accessories from around the room including this one..

DSC_4136

Actually this is a covered crystal jar that I placed on a Pottery Barn candle holder…

…..it actually worked out well…do ya think?

DSC_4155

DSC_4154

I bought a set of these candle holders at the Pottery Barn Outlet..

…..on my way home from Haven…

…………with the intention of possibly using them as “lifts/stands”

This is the other candle holder that I used…turned it upside down and it makes a great stand.

DSC_3987

I used my Johnson Brothers Pomona plates…

…..as they worked well with the color scheme and has a bit of a “Fall” feel…

DSC_4153

DSC_4133

I am pleased that I was able to relocate the lamp to this area…and my sentimental mirror too!

DSC_4159

I am really enjoying that the mirror reflects the shutters over the mantel…

DSC_4142

And how it reflects the outdoors….

DSC_4184

My Trader Joe’s orchid was happy there…so I made sure it stayed in the same place….

DSC_4157

Now…where did the cabinet go that was in this area?….

DSC_4180

It just swapped places with the sofa table that was in the dining room….

DSC_4174

This cabinet will live here until I can get my window seat built in this area…

…..all in due time…

But until then…I am having fun re-designing the “domino affected” areas….

Stay tuned to Part Three….where did that mirror that was over the cabinet…

…..that is now in the dining room go?
