The most beautiful sales office you will ever see…{The Villages}

Last week, we traveled to Florida…

…..to “Florida’s Friendliest Hometown, the Villages”.

My hubby had a tournament there.

I used to live about 30 minutes north of The Villages…so I know how wonderful that place is!

I could live in their sales office…it is the most awesome and beautiful sales offices you will ever see!

So the nice people of the Villages let me click away…so that I can share these beautiful rooms with you!

The houses in the Square are fashioned after coastal towns such as Appalachacola, Florida…

….a team of designers visited some coastal towns to get a feel for their next project.

And this town square of Sumter Landing depicts a coastal town feel.

DSC_5081

You will see thousands of custom golf carts such as this one throughout the Villages..

…..golf carts are the main mode of transportation throughout this beautiful place.

DSC_5082

Welcome….

The front porches to the office are beautiful and enormous…

DSC_5072

DSC_5067

DSC_5078

Love the way they embellished a simple trellis.

DSC_5074

So many wonderful places to sit and visit…

DSC_5071

Now let’s go inside…

DSC_5076

The Entry Foyer…

DSC_5006

DSC_5064

The Library…

DSC_5049

This is my favorite room…

…..which has my favorite poem from Ralph Waldo Emerson stenciled on the walls.

DSC_5015

Please keep in mind..that these rooms are rooms that salespeople meet prospective buyers.

I was there early that morning…there were just a few people sitting at tables in the rooms..

DSC_5014

You can see in the next pic a table with 4 chairs…one of many sets throughout the rooms..

…..to sit and meet with prospective buyers.

DSC_5013

DSC_5018

The ceiling treatments in each room are stunning.

DSC_5016

DSC_5020

DSC_5019

DSC_5022

My son wrote Emerson’s words in a card…for “dad”…saying that this poem says it all…

…..that he felt it represented him exactly. My hubby treasures that card to this day.

DSC_5025

DSC_5032

DSC_5058

And now to “The Parlor”

DSC_5033

DSC_5035

You can enjoy seeing many beautiful antiques throughout the “sales office”…

DSC_5036

DSC_5037

The “Hunt Room”

DSC_5050

What’s a “Hunt Room” without the “prized deer”

DSC_5052

DSC_5053

The other side of the room is beautiful, but there were people there meeting with a salesperson…

DSC_5007

And now to the “Music Room”

DSC_5043

DSC_5047

DSC_5046

There is a grand piano in the corner..rooms are dimly lit..so hard to see…

DSC_5044

It is a beautiful friendly place…a city of its own…where there is not a frown in sight…

…..where people are always happy…

DSC_4996

DSC_4994

And where my hubby can play competitive softball 365 days a year…..someday!!!

DSC_4961

And where there are beautiful sun rises…A view from the balcony of the hotel where we were staying…

DSC_4953

DSC_4954

DSC_4952

I hope you enjoyed the “very mini” tour of Florida’s Friendliest Hometown….

…..where you can get anywhere with a golf cart..

……….even lots of major department stores, grocery stores, restaurants, and the list goes on…

……….her story that always takes your breath away.

DSC_5153

Good luck…I will be announcing the winner on Thursday, November 1st, 2012….

On a beautiful Fall day….

Today was a gorgeous Fall day..lots of things going on for me…

For starters…

For the past few years, our neighborhood has hosted a Craft/Artisan Show and Sale….

…..we have many talented artisans in our neighborhood…from watercolorists to potters.

I was on my way to a meeting of this show and sale and noticed so many great Halloween decorations.

This is a few of what I drove by on my way to the meeting…

Thought you may enjoy them as much as I did….I will be on the lookout for more soon!

DSC_5092

Out of the corner of my eye I saw this figure standing on the top balcony…

…..he looks like he needs a meal or two!

DSC_5093

And this house with the giant scorpion…

…..the homeowner created it…

DSC_5087

Love the giant spider web…

…..last year there was a “mummy” caught in it…maybe it is yet to be placed in the web!

DSC_5086

DSC_5088

And here is this really cute mailbox all decorated for Fall…

DSC_5095

And later that day…here’s the story:

On our way to Florida this past week, we passed many fields of cotton..

I kept saying…I really want to get some cotton…without the worries of an angry farmer…

…..chasing after me as I chopped some cotton off the side of the road..

We had two teammates of my hubby’s riding down to Florida with us…

….one of them exclaimed that “Mitch” a fellow ball player had a cotton field!…

What!!???…I knew he had a farm but cotton???

…..Quick phone call to “Mr Mitch” as my granddaughter calls him….

……….and today…this is what I got :) :)

“Mr Mitch” to the rescue!!

DSC_5147

DSC_5148

and on another note:..one evening when arriving home very late….

…..we were greeted by this..

Hey, I don’t have to make my own creepy spider web….

…..it was done for me!

DSC_4046

DSC_4051

DSC_4049

Do not know what kind of spider it was…

…..but this was about as close as I was gonna get!!!..

More Fall tidbits…

I have a few more Fall tidbits to share….

…..before it all goes away next week and the sounds of Ho-Ho-Ho are in the air.

Actually, I am about a week behind in starting my Christmas decorating.

…..but I am really enjoying the Fall.

The chalkboard easel wording has not changed in a while…

…..it pretty much sums up life in this house!

DSC_5133

The antique scale has served this area well…

…..a great item for staging seasonal decor.

DSC_5132

DSC_5130

Suzy from Worthing Court stayed at my home the night before the Southern Bloggers Conference…

…..and brought me these cutest pumpkin salt and pepper shakers!

DSC_5127

A bit of a Fall Vignette on the bar…

…..notice the pink heart on the bird…my granddaughter’s decorative touch!..:)

DSC_5111

Some acorns from my neighbor’s yard in my Limoges basket…

DSC_5120

DSC_5112

Bought these pumpkins from HomeGoods…

DSC_5114

DSC_5110

DSC_5136

Added a few “tidbits” to the console table…

DSC_5145

You can see a little bit of the leaves turning gold in the reflection of the mirror.

DSC_5140

DSC_5143

I got another Plush Pumpkin while I was in Florida last week…love the color!

DSC_5105

It’s called Lagoon (blue)

DSC_5107

And lastly…the coffee table pumpkins…

I have had these for years…just love that they were not your typical orange…

Upper Back Porch Dressed for Fall

My little upper back porch has been in the “state of summer”…

…..but today, I decided that I must give it a “Fall Facelift”

………..a simple “facelift”…just a injection of botox here and there…

…………………and a swipe of shiny orange gloss…and here ya go…

DSC_4950

This was the “summer look”….

…..you can see the entire summer porch here..

DSC_2298

I changed out some pillows…purchased from JoAnn’s on clearance…

DSC_4920

They are so cute with small buttons sewn on the paisley print….

…..and pretty blue “rick rack” trim….I think a great deal for $10.00.

DSC_4948

I bought this felted wool pillow over 10 years ago at the Annual McIntosh Craft Fair in Florida…

…..if my memory serves me correctly, I believe the price was under $10…really!!

DSC_4922

My favorite Fall Pillow….so beautifully handcrafted.

Now..can you see the “white spot”…in the yard?…

…..maybe we will get an early snowfall…and it will blend in!

Note to self…put a drop cloth down before using spray paint!!

DSC_4941

The leaves are “just starting” to turn…

DSC_4947

I love to spend time on the little upper porch when the leaves are a masterpiece of color!!

I think the very small word, “JOY”…says it all!

Yard Sale Treasures…and off and running to the Southern Bloggers Conference!!

Before I hit the road for a 40 minute drive to Raleigh…

…..to help coordinate and participate in the Southern Bloggers Conference

I want to share with you some treasures that I found:

DSC_4663

A rattan tray table, a tole tray, a vintage paint by numbers painting, and two wall baskets!

All for a grand total of $13.00 !!!

Now I must say that the wicker wall baskets were free…from a friend that was moving…

…..she said it was an enticement to visit her…and I will be next week.

I found these treasures several weeks ago…

…..our neighborhood had a neighborhood-wide yard sale.

DSC_4665

Our covenants mandate that we are not able to have individual yard sales.

…..only two neighborhood-wide yard sales a year.

In September over 40 homes “set up shop”….and I cruised the neighborhood…looking for treasures….

…..and I think I did very well!

I love the rattan/wicker tray table, but did not quite like the stain…

…..so I bought some Krylon paint.

DSC_4668

You can see the leaves that have just started to fall…

DSC_4671

I like the white finish….but did you notice something?….My hubby certainly did!

I forgot to lay a cloth on the ground….ooops!!….I was in a hurry!…

DSC_4672

I was in a hurry as I still had to pack and do some prep for the Southern Bloggers Conference…

DSC_4687

I placed the very newly painted table in the guest room….

Where Suzy from Worthing Court is staying in for the night…

…..as we will be leaving very early in the morning to go to the conference.

DSC_4682

I like the table there…next to the chair…for cute bath items…

DSC_4681

DSC_4679

DSC_4678

I love the way it turned out…and love the price tag of $4.00 from the yard sale….

Hope you like it and my guests too!!

DIY by Design Fall Into Fall Party

I AM IN THE “BLOGLIGHT” OF BLOGTALK

Hometalk...what a wonderful site to gather and share wonderful ideas of everything related to the “home”…

I was introduced to the wonderful site a few months ago and I posted my sunroom and received over 10,000 views!

Now, Hometalk has a venue for bloggers called “Blogtalk”

…..it is such a wonderful Facebook venue for bloggers to share their ideas,

…..to ask questions of all types of concerns or related subjects of blogging.

DSC_3826

I believe that when Kim at Savvy Southern featured my sunroom, it was the post that had received the most traffic..other than when it was posted on Hometalk.

And…a large gain in followers when Kari did this post on Twirly, Whirly Skirts.

Today, I am so honored and happy to say that I am being featured by Blogtalk “IN THE BLOGLIGHT”

One of the questions I was asked by Blogtalk was “How did you get into blogging”?…

…..so I shall start on this note.

ONCE UPON A TIME (I love fairytales)….

I relocated from Florida to North Carolina to be near to our son and family…..

…..leaving most of my friends and family in Florida…

……….it was a very difficult decision, but then again, one of the best decisions we have made.

596758861309

We built a home in Chapel Hill…we closed on our home the day our granddaughter was born..talk about timing!

It was the most joyous of days!

DSC_4662

I was sending pictures of my Christmas decorations to my friends and family to see….

…..as Christmas decorating is one of my passions.

Here are two photos that were featured last year…they were my first features:

IMG_2691

My Christmas Tree from last year…

Stacy Curran of South Shore Decorating Blog (formerly Conspicuous Design) featured my tree…

….if you went to this post, I had two comments…one of them from Stacy…

I thank Stacy so very much for being a wonderful blogger friend who has been so very encouraging to a very new blogger!

This tree was also featured by The Adventures of Tartanscot…he was having a holiday decor contest….

…..in which he also featured one of my mantels.

IMG_2588

My son saw me sending pictures the conventional way….

…..he told me that I needed to start a blog to post my pictures of my Christmas decor.

That way, my friends and family could just go on the blog and see my pictures…

“BLOG???….I cannot do a blog…it must be hard to do!”…I am very computer challenged.

He worked me through one of my posts and through much trial and error I was off and running…

THIS IS GREAT, I EXCLAIMED!!…SO that is how I started…how it began…

………….Once Upon a Time.

My friend Linda, who is an avid blog reader…guided me on the parties I needed to join….

…..and that was another learning curve!

However, this is the real CEO of Housepitality Designs:

IMG_2064

I started blogging, for lack of a better word, “impulsively”…I just went to WordPress on the advice of my son…

…..picked out a standard theme…and away I went.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have consulted a blog designer first….

…..choosing a blog appearance that I love and inquiring information from that blogger…

I was hesitant to do that…to ask a blogger…but I have quickly come to learn that bloggers are the most wonderful people…they are so anxious to help a fellow blogger in need.

The Blogtalk Facebook Community is just that…a community of bloggers helping bloggers.

To this day, I still have that standard theme, but not for long, as there will be a new look soon!

I already had a name…I owned the domain name of “Housepitality Designs”…

…..the name of my interior design/redesign business that I started after I retired from the healthcare field.

I love the “South”…I love the symbol of the pineapple…of HOSPITALITY…thus, Housepitality Designs.

I have pineapples all over the house…

Like the foyer light:

IMG_2054

I can honestly say that I love blogging….for several reasons.

I keep it fun…I do not have a blogging schedule…I post when I have a new project..or want to join an interesting party with a great theme.

However, I must say, I love blogging for I have met the most wonderful people…people who I consider friends…

…..friends from all over…with a common goal…with common interests…

of caring and sharing…of true compassion…

I am in awe of so many bloggers…of their talents…from DIY to design…amazing people.

Blogging has made me become more interested in photography…..
…..I am in awe (there’s that word again) of the bloggers with such talent in photography.

My hubby bought me a great camera for Christmas last year…I can say it has really made a difference.

…..my entire home was featured a while ago at Debbiedoo’s.

DSC_1705

I must say that Hometalk on many occasions has been my number one referrer!..

I thank you Blogtalk…..for the wonderful honor of being in the “BLOGLIGHT”…

…..and to those who follow me and all the wonderful bloggers I have come to know…

I end this with post to say that, I hope you all “dance”..

I love the song, “I Hope You Dance”…and I have been….with excitement dancing every day….

…..as I learn the new “dance steps” of blogging…

……….for blogging is wonderful…when you BLOG FROM THE HEART!!!

And, they all lived happily ever after!

Fall Front Porch…Monogrammed Burlap Wreaths

The wreaths are up…the porch has ushered in Fall…

…..but I am certain that I will be doing more tweaking here and there.

My friend Frances did it again…

…..she monogrammed an initial on burlap for my fall wreaths.

I placed the burlap monogram on a quilter’s hoop…
