On a beautiful Fall day….

Today was a gorgeous Fall day..lots of things going on for me…

For starters…

For the past few years, our neighborhood has hosted a Craft/Artisan Show and Sale….

…..we have many talented artisans in our neighborhood…from watercolorists to potters.

I was on my way to a meeting of this show and sale and noticed so many great Halloween decorations.

This is a few of what I drove by on my way to the meeting…

Thought you may enjoy them as much as I did….I will be on the lookout for more soon!

Out of the corner of my eye I saw this figure standing on the top balcony…

…..he looks like he needs a meal or two!

And this house with the giant scorpion…

…..the homeowner created it…

Love the giant spider web…

…..last year there was a “mummy” caught in it…maybe it is yet to be placed in the web!

And here is this really cute mailbox all decorated for Fall…

And later that day…here’s the story:

On our way to Florida this past week, we passed many fields of cotton..

I kept saying…I really want to get some cotton…without the worries of an angry farmer…

…..chasing after me as I chopped some cotton off the side of the road..

We had two teammates of my hubby’s riding down to Florida with us…

….one of them exclaimed that “Mitch” a fellow ball player had a cotton field!…

What!!???…I knew he had a farm but cotton???

…..Quick phone call to “Mr Mitch” as my granddaughter calls him….

……….and today…this is what I got :) :)

“Mr Mitch” to the rescue!!

and on another note:..one evening when arriving home very late….

…..we were greeted by this..

Hey, I don’t have to make my own creepy spider web….

…..it was done for me!

Do not know what kind of spider it was…

…..but this was about as close as I was gonna get!!!..

  1. Did you see that wreath made from cotton on Pinterest? It was nice!
Love that huge spider web, yours is neat too!
I have to check to see if you did any posts on the convention. Barbara from NY told me she met you. I had asked her to say hi from me!

  2. Barbara Bussey says:

Yes, great Halloween decor! The huge spider web would certainly get my attention! Glad you got your cotton, too!

  3. Great decor in your neighborhood, but I’m so scared of spiders that I have to avert my eyes whenever I notice a house covered with those ginormous ones! I much prefer that pretty mailbox that doesn’t have a single spider on it. :o) Lucky you to get all that cotton!

  4. Look at you hiring a spider to do your halloween decorating. Some very creative people living around you.

  5. I love it when people in the neighborhood get into the spirit of the holidays! Your neighbors had a whoppin’ good time with theirs for Halloween! I always like the huge oversized ones!!! The skeleton on the balcony is a lot of fun!!! I have been on the lookout here for freshly harvested cotton, but there are no cotton fields in this part of Missouri or in Kansas just across the border. When traveling by car in the South, we saw some cotton fields but, like you, we were afraid to just hop out and pull a sample. I want to just feel and smell it fresh like that one time in my life! :-) Kudos to the hardworking spider that created that great web for you for no pay! ;-)

  6. Hey – did you get your cotton from Mitch, because I’ve been meaning to tell you he grows cotton.

  7. Those decorations are amazing! I don’t think I could have the scorpion though….so creepy!

  8. Yuck! I have a few of those around my house too – ewww! I love the mailbox decor, those halloween decorations are EXTREME!!!

  9. Wow these are really good. Some go way out to decorate. Haven’t seen home like that here.
Yes I get the odd spider web outside and don’t get too close either. You are so lucky to have the real cotton. We can only wish from seeing yours….

  10. Beautiful homes and awesome Halloween decor! I LOVE that huge web!
    Have a great weekend Shirley!

  11. I love the Halloween decor but all the spiders give me the creeps. I am a freak with spiders.

    Cynthia

  12. Yikes! I’ve got one of those giant spiders, too! Maybe we should leave them for Halloween decor! How fun to have some cotton! I dove by fields and fields of it on the way back from Florida and wanted some! Happy week!…hugs…Debbie

  13. I still get a chuckle at that large spider web. My grandsons would love it. We get those huge spiders and webs around here too. Its mating season for them. They are what my Grandma said common garden spiders. They are creepy and icky but harmless. They will all go away soon. You know its officially Fall around here when the spiders show up. One afternoon, me and the boys counted SIX of these huge webs around the front of the house. Oy.

I finally got some cotton too, and guess what I am doing for a giveaway? :)

  14. pstandley says:

Wow, how convenient for a spider to spin you a web for Halloween! Can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with that cotton. I know your creative juices are flowing.

  15. Such GREAT decorations! That huge spider web is great and the skelton, just likda lounging there on the balcony is fabulous:) I would love to get some cotton too. My son had a vase full of it one time. I should ask him where he got it. XO, Pinky

  16. Wow Shirley — that spider web is super creepy! I agree about not getting too close!

    :)

    Linda

  17. Shirley, the spider web is great! It’s so nice that Mother Nature cooperated with Halloween! The mailbox is adorable and the skeleton is scary! Love the cotton! I remember my Granddad’s cotton gin running full blast this time of year! I always loved going to see the gin in action!

  18. Isn’t it amazing how people have gotten into decorating for Halloween? I’m lucky if I get a couple of pumpkins on the porch! Your spider web photo certainly proves that spiders are the best weavers.

  19. Shirley~ I love the sense of fun and spooky decorating in your neighborhood! The skeleton on the balcony is a hoot! Lots of effort in weaving that spider web and attaching to the exterior of your neighbor’s house too!

How fun to get a bag of cotton! I’m looking forward to seeing your creation :)

  20. I love driving around looking at all the creative Halloween decorations around here too. I’m impressed with that giant spiderweb on that one house. How in the world did they get that set-up like that? That had to be a challenge. I usually place jumbo spiders all over the front of my house for Halloween, but opted not to this year. Just used pumpkins instead. I try to pick a theme. It has more prescence from the street than just random decorations.

  21. EEk on that giant scorpion!! We’ve been overrun this year with the critters. Don’t want to get stung by one of those bad boys so I shine a flashlight at night so I don’t step on one. Love all the fun decor! :)

  22. You have such creative neighbors…..but the scorpion on the roof takes the cake :) Hope the show is a big success!

Have a great day rock star!
