Living Room Christmas Mantel

After a couple of days of working on the mantel…I finally finished..

…..at 10:30 that evening, I sat down on the sofa with my cup of tea…admiring my mantel…

……….then crash!!…the left tree toppled over, taking part of the garland with it.

I did not cry or curse.

I just took a deep breath and with the help of my hubby and “all the king’s men”..

…..it was secured and back together again. (oh that rhymed!)

So here is my living room mantel for this year…

…..another woodland type theme.

DSC_6076

Two winter trees flanking each side of the mantel..

…..one is lit with led lights..

……….with owls and birds happily perched.

DSC_6051

The mantel has an evergreen garland for the base…

…..and two holly berry twig garlands intertwined.

I placed my wooden monogram over a cotton wreath that I had made.

DSC_6098

DSC_6099

DSC_6092

I hung ornaments beneath the garland…

…..I found ornaments that coordinated with the holly berry garland.

The Kitchen Christmas Tree and Saturday with Miss Mustard Seed

I am usually 3/4 of the way into my Christmas decorating by now…but with some travel and other commitments, I am running a little behind….

I hit the ground running with the Christmas decorating after Thanksgiving Day…

…..and had a wonderful day on Saturday at SuzAnna’s Antiques in Raleigh..

Prior to the milk paint workshop and book signing…

…..I had a wonderful lunch with Marian (Miss Mustard Seed) and Kristen (Sophia’s Decor)….

DSC_5823

Marian presented a wonderful workshop.

…..She taught us many wonderful techniques using her milk paint and waxes…

…………I learned so much.

DSC_5827

She cut her hair…it is so cute!

Marian took the time to write something special in each book…

DSC_5838

So after the book signing..there was time to “shop”

Here is Marian and Kristen….

DSC_5836

And me…

DSC_5840

And Marian bought this beautiful chandelier from Kristen’s booth at SuzAnna’s…

DSC_5841

Kristen has beautiful items in her booth, including her magnificent painted furniture pieces.

And I cannot believe that I did not get a pic of my friend Brittany of Pretty Handy Girl….
…..Brittany is currently remodeling her kitchen from the ground up…it is going to be awesome.

So after a wonderful Saturday, spent with many wonderful blogger friends, I continued my decorating…

And here is my very first Christmas decor reveal for this year…

…..my “take-out Santas” Kitchen tree..

……….and how appropriate as tis the Season for take out!!!…at least for me!

DSC_5870

The tree has velvet bendable stems made by Raz…

…..the Santa “take out chefs” were a purchase many years ago from Bombay Company.

This one is the “Chinese Take Out Chef”

DSC_5865

DSC_5867

Burgers and fries anyone?

DSC_5851

And here is my new addition…my “chalkboard chef”…

DSC_5846

From another angle…

DSC_5877

These little “guys are new”..bought them after Christmas for 75% off…
…..a good thing, as they were originally $14.00 each..

DSC_5862

DSC_5872

And on the other side of the table is my “Egg Nog Station”…

…..a vintage Egg Nog set by Atlas.

DSC_5876

DSC_5881

I found the Egg Nog Milk bottle many years ago…it was perfect for my Egg Nog set.

DSC_5883

DSC_5885

Now this Egg Nog is for “adults only” as it definitely has a “kick” to it!! :)

DSC_5874

DSC_5886

Hope you enjoyed the first of my Christmas decor…lots more to come…

…..just finished another little kitchen tree…stay tuned…

The Greatest Gift Project

The remarkable Laura from Finding Home asked me if I would be interested in participating in a project that is very close to her heart…

A project that she created called “The Greatest Gift Project”.

I was so overwhelmingly honored and happily accepted!

It is an avenue for those who want to share those who inspire them…

…..those who have made a difference in their lives…

……….those who in large or small ways, brought joy, encouragement, and support in your life.

You can link up stories of “your inspiration”

Today, I wrote about my life long friend Ruth…

…..for over 25 years, she has battled a congenital kidney disease that took her mother and sister far too early.

Whenever life hands me a bit of stress from silly little nuisances…

…..I reach into my “Ruthie Perspective Box”…and those silly nuisances fly away….on Angel Wings.

DSC_0721

Here we are…my sister in law took this picture of us 5 years ago when I traveled back to Florida for a visit after moving to N.C..

Ruth came to pick me up for a day of shopping…AFTER she came from the Dialysis unit…
…..the treatment often leaves her “wiped” but she’s a trooper…She took me shopping all day!!

This picture is always in my living room…where I am reminded of “The Greatest Gifts of Life”

So hop over to this great blog…“The Greatest Gift Project”

…..where you will read wonderful stories of inspirations from the following contributors and links of inspirational stories from others…AND..today…

……….My story of my friend Ruth..I think her middle name should be “FAITH”.

Have a wonderful day of inspiration!!

My “cute” blessing…

The grocery shopping is done…well, except for the couple of things my daughter in law will pick up for me…

…..and today I will be preparing just a couple of things…

……….the rest will be left for tomorrow morning…

Prepping for the cranberry relish..

DSC_5797

DSC_5801

And in-between a little cooking…

…..I am doing some Christmas decorating…

DSC_5802

DSC_5803

And nothing could be finer than to see your grandchild in her Thanksgiving School Play…

DSC_5765

She was the cutest little Pilgrim!

And here she is with her best friend…

DSC_5755

As I scurry to bake and cook, and clean and decorate…I find myself sitting back…

…..and counting my many blessings.

………..and for what is most important…are the beautiful memories.

DSC_5792

I send you the warmest wishes for a Blessed Thanksgiving to you and your family!!!

Enhancing a Kitchen Island

Recently, my neighborhood held its Annual Craft/Artisan Show…

I showcased and sold my Christmas Wreaths..

DSC_5414

And my friend Kristen, of Sophia’s Decor showcased her gorgeous furniture transformations…

…..along with her beautiful jewelry, pillows, wreaths, table runners, and many other items.

DSC_5403

She and her mom are the cutest…and so talented!!

They staged the front entrance with their beautiful items….

…..one of which I snagged quickly…it was marked sold before anyone else could get to it!!!

DSC_5420

DSC_5710

The cute table Kristen painted in ASCP Old White….

…..and used Miss Mustard Seed’s lovely wax..

I had the perfect place for that table…here’s the before…

DSC_5705

And here is the after….

DSC_5743

I really wanted a larger island when designing the kitchen…

…..however, the builder and the cabinet maker thought it was best that I have more room…

……….between the island and the other bank of cabinetry.

But, I still felt I could have “squeezed” another foot or so for a larger island.

DSC_5734

So thanks Kristen…for providing me with the opportunity…

…..to enhance my kitchen island.

DSC_5719

I love the contrast of the white and cherry finish…

DSC_5722

It adds great surface space and storage….

DSC_5714

DSC_5716

DSC_5713

I so love this beautiful table that Kristen re-furbished…

…..it is just the “extra something” that my kitchen island needed!!….

DSC_5707

And soon there will be a “Kitchen Christmas Tree” on the table!

Welcome to my home….

Several months ago my home was featured on Debbie-Doos

…..it was such an honor to be featured on her blog.

So, today, I thought that I would present this post …my home tour.

And to see it before the rooms transition to “all things Christmas”!!…

DSC_1705

I live in North Carolina….

We relocated to North Carolina from Florida, where I had lived most of my life. We love it here.

It was a difficult move as we were leaving our friends and family, so that we could be close to our son and his family.

We had our home built in a beautiful golf course neighborhood.

We chose this plan as almost every room had a view.

A view…”it’s all about the view”…..So come on in and hope you enjoy the tour!

DSC_1568

The front facade of our home….
One day while my builder was supervising the pouring of our driveway…
….someone drove by and said, “Oh what a cute little house”…
……….He replied, “It may be cute, but not that little”…

IMG_0592

A view of the back (in the winter…I love the snow on the ground)…

As you can see, we have many sets of french doors that overlook the back yard…

With the exception of a few bathrooms, and the bonus room, all the rooms have a view of the back yard.

So come in and make yourself at home…

The foyer:

DSC_5687

Starting off with the living room area…..

DSC_1651

As you will quickly see, the main floor is really one large room…
We wanted that casual, great room feel.

This room is how it looked several months ago…

DSC_1652

DSC_1654

and now it looks like this:

…..the stained glass moved into the foyer…

……….and antique wood and iron shutters were placed over the fireplace.

DSC_4625

So now, we move into the dining room…It is a casual room…

…..unlike many dining rooms, it faces the back of the house.

The best part is that we use it every day…
…..unlike our former dining rooms in which the chairs “were warm” only a few times a year!

DSC_1560

And now we move on to the kitchen….

Untitled

The cabinetry is Cherry….
We had “discussions” back and forth as to the style and color of the kitchen…
…..We had many cherry and mahogany pieces, so it was best to go with the cherry…
………or so I thought at the time……
…………..But at least I sneaked in the farmhouse sink!!!

DSC_1633

DSC_1634

And then there is the pantry..It originally was slated for just a room with a door and shelving…but I had the
builder re-work it into a butler’s pantry with plenty of storage behind cabinetry….

DSC_1636

Where was that wide angle lens when I needed one!…

And now moving on to the keeping/sunroom…

DSC_1615

The windows in this room were not covered originally…our view was trees all around…
…..a true sunroom…
Then the house went up next door…so I decided to place curtains half way up..
…..so I do not subject my nice neighbors..to me in my PJ’s!!

When I saw this wicker at the High Point showroom, I fell in love with the color…(mfgr is Lane Venture)

DSC_1617

DSC_1618

And now..down the hallway..we go toward the laundry room and the powder room…
…..and beyond the door is the entry to the garage.

Now, have you had your second cup of coffee yet…

…..you may want to grab another as this post is heavy on the photos!!

DSC_1639

DSC_1640

I wanted the cherry cabinetry to flow through the main floor for consistency….

Oh..are those “orbs” in the lower left hand corner?…woooo..

DSC_1643

DSC_1645

DSC_1644

And then across the hall…the teeny powder room…that is on my list for a facelift! No Botox…

DSC_1647

I’m really needing that wide angle lens…hope “honey” is reading this!

Now we move on to the Master Bedroom…my builder loves making the ceilings very interesting…

DSC_1619

The walls will soon be painted with SW Silvermist..the same as the master bathroom…

…..haven’t made it in there yet!

DSC_1620

DSC_1621

Now we shall move on down the little hall to the Master Bath…

Untitled

Untitled

So now..I am going to take you to the other floor….and hope that I have not lost your attention….
As I said, this is definitely a two cups of coffee (or tea) post….

So now we shall enter the main guest room…
Oh by the way, all the bedding in all 3 bedrooms are by Pottery Barn with some custom made pillows.

DSC_1583

DSC_2079

DSC_1588

This room, always a work in progress…then again, so is the entire house!

DSC_1579

I love that I am able to place chairs in most of my bathrooms….
…..a garden whirlpool tub is in this bathroom for guests to enjoy…
………..and also comes in handy after a long day of softball games!

DSC_1580

So down the hall to the media room we go….

DSC_5688

This is a great room for movies and enjoying company of others…

DSC_1605

The saying over the doors are there all year round…a request from our Granddaughter!

DSC_5691

DSC_5693

DSC_5692

A little kitchenette comes in very handy…

So let’s move down the hall…towards the second guest/little (and I mean little) craft space….

DSC_1611

DSC_1973

DSC_1970

Untitled

And here is my little craft space…hopefully soon there will be some new units there for crafting…

DSC_1598

Another bathroom for guests…no windows here..so light not great….

DSC_1599

A very large shower and toilet area beyond the door….

Untitled

And here is a “glimse” of my hubby’s office…we utilized the 4th bedroom for it….he was in there working…shhhh….
He also has a great view when working….

Now, last but not least there is one more room to show you for today….whew…you probably thought this would never end!

Untitled

Can you tell he loves baseball?…We added the wainscoting to match the pool table…

Untitled

There is a wet bar up there…for those thirsty guys!…

Untitled

There is a bathroom and a large closet in that room also…but not really photo worthy right now!….

So, I hope you enjoyed the very L O N G tour of my home….

A home that we love that is always “in the state of change”….

This Home Tour has been featured on the following wonderful blogs:

Christmas Decor has appeared…

I went to one of my favorite garden center/gift shops a while ago, with two of my sweet friends….

…..to sign up for a class on Christmas mantel decorating by a fabulous Christmas design expert.

When we arrived, this is what was in the garden center..

…..the elves were working night and day and here are some of the spectacular trees and decor.

IMG_2824

I am partial to these “upside down/inverted” trees as I have two of them…

This tree has a woodland/owl theme…

IMG_2825

I was discreetly taking photos with my iPhone….:)

I love this reindeer covered with script paper…I think it could be an easy D.I.Y..

IMG_2833

The Christmas designer owns his own company that sells “all things Christmas”….

He utilizes many large items in his design of the trees..like these wreaths.

…..he ran a Christmas decorating contest last year and I won!….

………..I won merchandise from his catalog and can’t wait to receive my “loot”….

IMG_2826

Owls are still very popular this year…but this cute hedgehog is a new item….love him!!

IMG_2827

IMG_2823

It’s hard to see, but there is a large wagon that is incorporated in the base of the tree!

And here are some great letters that are made from books…cut out by using a jig saw perhaps?

IMG_2829

And here is a great idea of “merchandising” a hurricane…

IMG_2817

And yesterday, I traveled to one of my other favorite garden centers/gift shops….

DSC_5319

I needed a few supplies to complete my wreath making….for our community Craft/Artisan show….

DSC_5324

You are greeted by this friendly fella….I cannot believe that I did not buy him!!!

DSC_5335

This is where I purchase quality silk florals…

DSC_5332

Here is a beautiful swag…I bought the materials to make this…

…..and will share it with you soon!

DSC_5337

DSC_5342

So this year, I keep seeing the same theme…of owls and decor of woodland themes…

DSC_5350

I have used owls in much of my decor last year and still plan to do that this year…

…..however, I so love the look of a sparkly “White Christmas”

DSC_5344

This week, I have been busy with social commitments and making wreaths for our community Craft/Artisan show..

My hubby’s “man cave” has turned into “Santa’s Workshop”

DSC_5389

So that I can create my wreaths and swags and coordinate my Christmas decorating….

….like this…a little sneak peek of one of my wreaths.

DSC_5400

So now I shall go back to my “Santa’s Workshop” to make more wreaths!!!

Stay tuned for my creations….

Do you make your own holiday wreaths too?

A Fall Tablescape….Pottery Barn Inspired.

Who cannot resist the beautiful products of Pottery Barn..I can’t!

…..I saw these plates this Fall and had to have them.

I used them throughout my Fall decor in my home.

So today, I gathered them together and created a Fall Tablescape.

DSC_5243

DSC_5266

The table inspiration also came from this pillow from Pottery Barn…

DSC_4622

I gathered my collection of Fall foliage and started creating a centerpiece in my wooden French apple basket..

DSC_5267

DSC_5292

DSC_5280

This cute faux pumpkin is also from Pottery Barn.

Untitled

And then there are the real pumpkin/gourds…love the color!

DSC_5257

I adore my little turkey that I found at a yard sale for one dollar..! :)

DSC_5291

DSC_5264

A view from the other side of the table:

Untitled

DSC_5277

These plates really set the tone for the table…

DSC_5270

The square brown chargers are from Tar-Jay on clearance for $2.00 :)

DSC_5263

DSC_5260

DSC_5228

I used a combination of silk and dried florals and pods…

DSC_5217

The large dried flowers and pods are also a great yard sale find…

A few weeks ago, I received this beautiful item that I had ordered…

DSC_5170

The spider has flashing red lights and moves up and down…

DSC_5173

And then I found Casper…the friendliest of ghosts!!!
