A Christmas Tradition…the Scavenger Hunt!

I hope you all had a most joyous Christmas….

DSC_7114

A couple of years ago…instead of placing gifts under the tree for our granddaughter..

…..we decided to place them throughout the house…

……….for you see, Santa does that at Grandma and Pop’s house.

So “Santa Pop” makes clues on Christmas Eve…

…..so that “Miss Gray” can solve them and find the gifts that Santa brought.

“GRAYLYN’S STOCKING WAS HUNG IN AN ODD PLACE WITH MUCH CARE…

…..IN HOPES THAT SHE WOULD FIND IT JUST BY WANDERING THERE.

NOTE: NO NEED TO LOOK FOR THE STOCKING RIGHT NOW…

…..YOU WILL FIND IT LATER..TIED WITH A BOW.”

“THE FIRST GIFT WAS NESTLED UNDER A BED…

…..IN A ROOM WHERE OUR GUESTS LAY DOWN THEIR SWEET HEADS”

DSC_7128

DSC_7131

DSC_7132

“THE NEXT GIFT WAS CLEVERLY HIDDEN UNDER A CAP…

…..WHERE GRANDMA DOES LAUNDRY, INSTEAD OF TAKING A NAP”

DSC_7134

(Note: there was a red baseball hat that sat above the dryer…)

“WHEN OUT ON THE BACK LAWN LOOKING UP AT FLOWERS…

…..SANTA SAID “I WILL HIDE ONE UP HIGH BUT YOU DO NOT NEED A LADDER”

Hmmmm..she said…

DSC_7138

“Oh I think I know where it is!”

DSC_7139

DSC_7142

“UP TO THE THIRD FLOOR SANTA FLEW LIKE A FLASH…

…..LOOKING TO FIND A SHUTTER AND A SASH…

INSTEAD HE DISCOVERED WINDOW SEATS THE COLOR OF SNOW…

…..AND SAID I WILL HIDE A PRETTY WRAPPED GIFT RIGHT HERE BELOW”

DSC_7143

DSC_7144

DSC_7147

“HE SPRANG TO HIS SLEIGH TO HIS TEAM GAVE A WHISTLE..

…..AND AWAY THEY ALL FLEW LIKE THE DOWN ON A THISTLE.

BUT I HEARD HIM EXCLAIM, ERE HE DROVE OUT OF SIGHT…

…..MERRY CHRISTMAS GRAYLYN AND ENJOY CHRISTMAS LIGHTS”…

DSC_7137

“NOW WE ARE ALL GETTING HUNGRY, SO LET’S OPEN GIFTS QUICK…

…..SO WE CAN CHOW DOWN ON CHRISTMAS DINNER BY GRANDMA ST. NICK”

DSC_7118

DSC_7123

I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas Day filled with much joy…

…..and memories to treasure forever and ever!!!

Twas the “night” before Christmas

I can finally say that all my gifts are wrapped and under the tree…

…..I am going to be settling in “for a long winter’s nap” soon.

The evening was most wonderful having dinner at my son’s home…

…..to be able to experience the joy in a child (my granddaughter)…

……….the excitement of the morning to come…after Santa has paid his visit.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas…making sweet memories with your loved ones.

So I end my Christmas postings with my front porch…

…..during the day … and into the night….

The Sunroom Upside Down Christmas Tree and the Five Favorites and Winner of the “Better Late Thank Never” Linky Party

Before I tell you who the “faves” and winner of the “Better Late Than Never” Linky Party…

…..I thought I would keep you in suspense and present my large Upside Down Tree.

It stands in the corner of the sunroom…

…..It is put together like a regular tree..

DSC_6738

I have red accents in the sunroom, so I use red ornaments and glass “icicles” in the tree…

…..along with these cute little owls and birds..

DSC_6852

DSC_6855

DSC_6745

I used the same holly berry garland at the top of the tree that is also on my mantel…

DSC_6747

DSC_6740

I have been fortunate to find these pretty red glass ornaments on sale after Christmas…

…..and the owls too!

DSC_6742

I use quilt batting..berry sprays and evergreens to decorate the base of the tree…

…..and a few crystal snowflakes

DSC_6857

DSC_6866

A view of the sunroom…..

DSC_6873

As with most rooms…furniture has to be moved about to accommodate the trees…

…..I am certain you all can relate!!

My Living Room Tree…finally!

Finally…”better late than never”…the living room is finally all decked out for Christmas…

DSC_6787

DSC_6828

It takes a lot of going up and down a 10 foot ladder to deck a 12 foot tree…

…..I am getting too old for this…need a smaller tree!

However, it looks so “majestic” with the height of the ceiling.

DSC_6806

DSC_6807

I overlaid the green ribbon with a gold glittered ribbon…

…..for a little more bling!

DSC_6809

DSC_6831

Rather than line the foyer with poinsettias as I did last year..I chose a more natural look…

……I can hear my friend Linda applauding me now…

DSC_6808

DSC_6798

Rather than embellishing the garland with ribbon, etc..

…..I chose to leave it natural..adding a few birds here and there.

DSC_6801

DSC_6803

DSC_6801

The tree is filled with many sentimental ornaments…

…..like this “vignette” for my son…he played soccer…still does!

DSC_6834

Another “vignette” of “Florida” ornaments given to me by friends…

DSC_6776

The train “stained glass” ornament was my very first Hallmark ornament purchase!

DSC_6833

I love Christopher Radko ornaments…especially the “911″ tribute collection…

DSC_6835

DSC_6836

DSC_6837

And then there are always the “travel momentos”…

…..bought this one on one of our “Christmastime” trips to NYC.

My friend Linda and I were browsing in the gift shop before the show…We spotted this beauty…but there was only one!…The clerk said that there were more across the street from the show…the show was starting soon…but we ran out of the Music Hall..crossed barricades and darted into traffic..to get another ornament!..What we do for a great ornament…We made the show just in time!…:)

DSC_6838

Tavern on the Green…so enjoyed our lunch there…so sad it is gone!

DSC_6839

I recently received this beauty from a friend…

…..she knows how much I want to go to France…She has been there many times…

So if I concentrate on this enough…I may someday go…hope so K & K!!

DSC_6840

I love my set of carolers that I place around the tree..

…..this is the other side of the tree…

DSC_6830

And now I am going to share some more “vignettes” around the room…

DSC_6772

DSC_6770

A Bit of Retro Christmas Decor

In our family/media room…

…..an area that I place my vintage and antique items that I have had for years….

……….the items that I decided to keep when we moved.

I love using these items to embellish for Christmas…

This post will be very heaving on the pictures…I have much to share before Christmas!! :)

While the guys were driving…we are always on the lookout for “animals”…saw many..but no Moose.

…..on the very last day there..on our way home…there it was…We both shouted “MOOOOOSE”…

You would have thought we found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!!

No Minimalist Here for Open House Party

Kitchen Chandeliers and Tidbits and an “Apron Swap”

I started decorating today at o’dark thirty…

It seems to be a pattern lately, trying to complete the decorating…

…..so that I can move forward with shopping, cards, and party preps.

First thing this morning I tackled the kitchen and sunroom chandeliers…

DSC_6529

I decorated the kitchen island chandy with florals and picks and stems…

…..and two beaded garlands of bells..

DSC_6530

DSC_6538

I have had these garlands of bells for a few years now…

…..using them in different places each year.

“I heard the bells on Christmas Day..the old familiar carols play…”….

DSC_6535

DSC_6539

DSC_6532

A close up of the floral picks…

…..I have splashes of red in the kitchen and sun room…so these do well in the chandy..

DSC_6541

Now on to the sunroom…

…..I added ornaments to the arms of the candelabra and placed floral picks at the base.

DSC_6543

I bought the ornaments when visiting the Biltmore House in Asheville…they had a great sale!

DSC_6544

DSC_6548

Here is my cookie cutter tree…placed in a mini colander..

DSC_6550

DSC_6551

DSC_6552

DSC_6562

And now we move on to the other side of the kitchen….

…..a decorated covered jar with pears and cranberries…a Byers Caroler..”The Milk Maid”

……………crystal pineapples hang from beneath the cabinetry.

A “12-12-12″ Christmas Dining Room Tablescape

Today is 12-12-12…..a day that will not be seen for many, many years…

So on this momentous “date” I continued to do my decorating…

…..setting my table for the holidays…running to the post office..

……….so that I could mail my packages and send a postcard to my granddaughter…

……………with the date stamp of 12-12-12.

This year, the theme is relative to my Christmas dishes..

….Lenox Holiday Tartan.

DSC_6483

The centerpiece is decorated with evergreens and fruit trees…

…..and critters of winter…

DSC_6526

Believe it or not….

…..this is probably the simplest of tables and chandy decor that I have done in the past several years.

There is usually more decor on the table and chandelier…of branches reaching toward the chandelier..

…..and florals scaling the branches…like Jack and the Beanstalk meets Christmas!!

DSC_6527

No…just a place where the deer and the quail (no antelope) play….

DSC_6473

Where seldom is seen (not heard) of the deer eating the plants…(at least not on this table!)

DSC_6503

Sorry guy…fake greens and the ground is laden with a Ralph Lauren tablecloth…

DSC_6491

DSC_6490

DSC_6485

I placed my “signature pineapple” in the votives and vases…

DSC_6511

DSC_6510

The place setting…

DSC_6469

DSC_6470

I placed a “clip on” candle on each napkin…

…..hey when you get to be my age…you need all the light you can get!!!

DSC_6516

DSC_6471

DSC_6496

When my hubby saw the table…he was pleased…

…..that there was no “cyclone” of florals reaching to the sky..

………..such a funny guy.

But I still managed to include lots of decor on the table…

DSC_6500

The place cards are missing, as this year my granddaughter wants to write the names on the cards…

…..so she will be creating them on her next visit with us.

DSC_6486

Have you noticed the tree in the background?

It is not quite finished…just need a tweak here and there…

DSC_6506

DSC_6505

DSC_6509

Ya like the way my package matches the tree?…one of my very favorite papers…

DSC_6518

And the simplest chandy decor was done this year…

…..just a garland of silver/green leaves and berries and a gold glittered open weave ribbon…

DSC_6507

I mixed gold and green ornaments…

DSC_6508

DSC_6481

I am happy that I have completed one more task…of the dining room tablescape…

DSC_6523

So I can move on to the large tree in the living room…..

…..did a little tweaking of the topper…

My hubby puts it in the workmate bench, so I can add more stuff, tweak, and jooosh…

DSC_6464

And up it goes…

DSC_6465

Ta dah…now..it is my turn to decorate the tree…

…..going up and down that 10 foot ladder…

……….after that type of exercise…I think I will have an extra cookie tonight!!!…

Welcome….

cmaspartybutton

I have had many out of town trips these past few months….

…..which led me to be a bit behind on my decorating…

But, we cannot forget what life is truly about…

…..spending time with family and friends…not decorating…

This past weekend, we spent visiting our friends…

…..and I took the opportunity to take some pics of her beautifully decorated home…

I called this a “Merry” and Bright Home…as her name is “Merry”…how cool is that??!!!

…..Three of the 6 hours of shopping and lunch were spent at Pottery Barn…(yes, we need therapy!!!)

The shopkeepers see us coming and they set aside a register just for us…

DSC_6403

And this is one of the results of our shopping….

…..a bedding change for her…

We changed out the bedding at 10 pm…just so I can take some pics!!

Holiday Guest Room

Over the holidays we usually have many guests…

…..so it is appropriate that I also decorate that room in the spirit of the season.

DSC_6410

I try to have a tree in every room in my house…including the guests rooms..

…..this tree is a gold metal tree decorated in the color scheme of the room.

DSC_6411

DSC_6412

I added a twig garland to the trunk of the tree…

…..and antique fishing floats to the base.

DSC_6414

DSC_6413

DSC_6417

All of the ornaments and the tree were purchased after Christmas…love those sales!!

DSC_6418

I love these porcelain “flower petal ornaments”..and the “new vintage” blue ornaments…

DSC_6419

and there is always a bird or two in my trees…

DSC_6420

And across the bed is the dresser…our very first dresser…just waiting to be painted..

…..one day….

DSC_6423

DSC_6424

DSC_6425

Now….in case you are wondering how I attach these ornaments to the tree…

…..I will tell you my secret…I cut the wire portion of a wired ribbon…

……….they are like mini pipe cleaners!

DSC_6426

There are no birds in the tree, but placed one at the base!

DSC_6428

Bliss….a perfect, beautiful word…

DSC_6430

You will see Byers Carolers throughout the house…

DSC_6431

I placed my cotton grapevine wreath over the iron gate…
