HGTV Dream Home Tour on Kiawah Island, Part I

My hubby and I had the HGTV Dream Home Tour on our list of places to go this year….

…..especially since it was on that gorgeous Kiawah Island.

So, talk about last minute…we bought tickets for the last day of the tour.

We took the trip which was about 5 1/2 hours away…along with 2 other couples…

…..a great friends weekend trip.

I must tell you right away that the HOUSE WAS VERY CROWDED…!!

There were bus after busloads of people coming to see the house…

…..so taking pictures was not an easy ordeal…and the changes in lighting from one room to another…

……….was also difficult…changing the ISO constantly.

So here are the pics I managed to get in-between the crowds of people.

Could only get a “snippet” of the porch, as there were many people on the front porch…..

…..putting on their “booties”

I must admit…on “TV” I was not crazy about the colors on the walls…

…..however, in person…the colors were beautiful…and that applies to the entire house.

The HGTV Interior Designer, Linda Woodrum used many local artisans artwork and handmade art throughout the house..

…..like these beautiful sweetgrass baskets that you see throughout Charlestons…love them!

And here we are in the Great Room…

So many beautiful details in this home…I wish I could spend hours there admiring them….

…..and studying “Linda’s” flair for design. She has so many wonderful ideas.

As I toured the home, I noticed one thing…something that I would have never thought to do!

…..I will let you try and see what I am talking about…it is a constant throughout the house.

This gorgeous antique swan was purchased from an antique shop in Charleston…

I love this metal basket…so much more gorgeous in person!

The beams in the great room were phenomenal…

And there’s our friend Scott…I think he was saying, “are you still down there taking pictures?”…

…..good thing that there were high ceilings..he’s almost 6′ 8″…yes, he played college basketball.

  1. How fun! I had no idea they offered up tours of their Dream Homes! Now I’m kicking myself for not visiting the downtown condo they did here in Chicago!

And are you going to leave us here on a cliffhanger? Can I guess fresh fruits and veggies as the constant?

  7. Nice pictures, but that house is not my style at all. Always nice to have a weekend away with friends though. I toured the one in St. Mary’s, Ga. years ago and loved it.

Oh…you saw my house! I entered faithfully….wouldn’t it be fun to win? So, are you gonna tell us next time the constant secret? I was thinking fruit in bowls, and/or plants. Enjoy your evening! 😉

  9. You got some great shots, Shirley. I know I shouldn’t do it, but when I am doing shots at home tours, I just give up and put the ISO on auto. I have more fun.:-)

  12. Wow I had no idea they did tours of the home. That’s quite a money maker isn’t it! You got some great shots! I’m still waiting for them to let me know I won!! 🙂

  13. I’m thinking the fruits and lots of green plants were the constants. I used to do that in my home until I met and married the little Mr.! 🙂 This year’s house is really quite modern! What a treat to be able to tour it in person!!! I love that sleek look in the butler’s pantry and the tall ceilings. That iron gate above the fireplace reminded me of your house! 🙂

  14. You can definitely tell that house is in a tropical region. Linda Woodrum always does such a great job designing the home to fit in it’s climate. That house had a very open and spacious look to it and can carry color well. I’m wondering if the constant was candles in each room? Other than the obvious of plants and fruit. Is it an accessory that you’re referring to? Now, I must know! LOL! Thanks for sharing pics of this home. I bet it was fun being there in person.
