The Backyard and Porches

An area of the house that I rarely show

is the rear view of the house and the backyard and porches.

Recently we put our home on the market.

The realtor’s photographer came over last week and took about 100 photos.

It was a beautiful day that day of the photo shoot.

The rear view of the house is quite different from the front facade.

You can see that there are two porches . . upper and lower.

I change the decor of the upper porch often as it is right off the main living area.

The flowering shrubs are pretty much devoid of flowers now.

I am using lots Fall mums on the porches to add color.

At one end of the veranda is a pergola with a dining table.

There are 4 rockers on the veranda for those days when you need to chill

and listen to the birds . . . and the squirrels rustle through the trees . . .

and the hum of the golf carts too!

These rockers are just outside the guest room

where guests can sit a spell and enjoy the view.

However, when guests are here, we seem to be so busy doing things

that I am not sure that they have time to rock!

A table for two is just outside the media room door.

It was a beautiful day to take photos outdoors.

The photos are courtesy of the Real Estate photographer,

Laura Fuelleman of ShowSpaces Photography. She is a sweetheart.

When she arrived at my home, she stated that she was rather excited to photograph it,

as she reads my blog! Really?!!!

I want to update you all on my Florida family.

Out of 6 households, two of them already have their power restored. Yay!

They all had damage to their properties, but minimal compared to those homes that were

devastated by the wind and rain, and flooding.

I am relieved that they are all safe and sound and I send thoughts and prayers to those

who were not so lucky and to those who are still in the path of Irma’s rage.

I wish you all a most beautiful day.

I am still working on a few more areas to “fallify” them!

Stay  tuned!

  4. I so wish I had gotten there to visit before you put it on the market. That is amazing that the photographer reads your blog!!! I guess you just never know! The back of your home is gorgeous and the pictures are fabulous!

  5. The back of your house is beautiful! So glad to hear about your family. My family is here safe with me, but of the 3 sisters only one had heard about their house. It did not get flooded but they lost their pool cage. The other two are waiting to hear. None of them can go back until they know about power.

  8. Oh, Shirley, this is such a beautiful space of your home. You must have a lot of feelings reeling through your mind as you get ready for the next chapter. So glad they captured it all in its glory.
What a wonderful thing for 2 of the 6 in your family to already be restored with power in FL! That’s pretty amazing but, then again, I think the media is happy to blast nothing but the gloom and doom of it all. For those living alone (such as my sister from Beaufort, who is still here in WV), it scares the bejeebers out of them for what they may return to.

  14. Hi Shirley, You have a beautiful home and it was a pleasure to photograph. The multiple porch spaces definitely are a highlight of your home. I hope I did it all justice. 100 photos in a few hours time is the challenge of real estate photography. Your beautifully decorated spaces made my job that much easier. In addition, I was glad to see an update on your family as I know you were quite preoccupied with their safety. All the best to you!

  15. Such a beautiful and so well kept home Shirley. I don’t see this lasting long at all on the market. Best wishes to you. xo

Being a window person makes me absolutely drool over this view of your gorgeous home…wow! I want to come buy it…but, wait, I’m supposed to downsize to that cottage house one day, right? Oh, well. I love all the porch area and know I’d be sitting out there often if this were our house. I can’t wait to see your new house…lots of pictures, please. So glad to know your family didn’t get impacted too harshly with mean old Irma. My family fared pretty well, too, thank goodness! Hugs!

  23. What a beautiful, beautiful home! It will be difficult to leave, at least, I know I would have a hard time saying good-by to such a lovely house! You and your husband have done a wonderfully amazing job of decorating and maintaining it.

  24. Cheryl Bull says:

Shirley, I am sure you receive many compliments on your lovely home but I must add to them. It is gorgeous!! This is the first time I have seen a photo of the entire back of your house. I understand your decision to “downsize” but I am sure your next home will be just as beautiful!!

  25. The back of the house is just as gorgeous as all the rest of your house. What wonderful places to enjoy good weather. Glad your family faired well with Irma. We did too. I hope there are no other hurricane performances this year!

  26. Your realtor must be counting her lucky stars to have this listing where everything is so thoughtfully done. I can’t imagine that the house won’t sell quickly. Good to hear your family has survived all the weather challenges. That is something to be grateful for.

  29. Oh my goodness, Shirley. Your home is amazing. I have a dream home that I plan in my head and it has porches similar to the ones you have. I think I’ll file your pictures mentally to give my dream home some more details. xo

  30. Susan Smith says:

Wow! Those porches are outstanding! Whoever designed your house did an excellent job! And you did an excellent of furnishing every area. It’s all so beautiful. I’ll bet you will miss ut when you move. My son’s house in Ocoee, Florida finally got the electricity restored yesterday. They sustained only some fence damage. Thank goodness!

  31. These porches are soooooo beautiful, gracious and inviting! I’d like to sit there with a book and glass of wine. Love your home, Shirley. Don’t move!

  34. A beautiful elevation and view from the back of your home! I don’t recall seeing your pergola before and I love the fixture you have hanging there. I bet your home sells right away! Glad to hear your family came through Irma relatively unscathed ♥

  35. Shirley: Your home is so beautiful and looks as though it sets on a gorgeous piece of property. I am sure it will be hard for you to leave, but it will be such fun to do another home.

Such good news that your Florida family came through the dreadful storm safe and sound with little damage to their homes.

Hope you are seeing some cooler weather, you will need it for packing – your home will be sold in a blink.

  36. The back view is gorgeous, Shirley. I saw it quickly on IG but I’ve been off the computer for a week. I had family here from Jacksonville for five days. They had a tree to fall on their house and they are having trouble getting people to come take it off. If it just won’t rain. Skylights were broken, too. Fortunately, there was no inside damage as of yet and they are back in the house. The tree fell on the end of the house where their kids had rooms growing up. Their bedroom is on the other side of the house so that was a blessing.
I am remembering all those affected in Texas and Florida that had damage. It has been hard to watch.
How nice to have such great pictures of your house.
