New Kitchen Decor and a Giveaway

Well it happened again.

I stopped in my favorite shop . . .

should I tell you which one it was?!! . . .  you probably already know!

Yes, Always Home in Durham, N.C.

On my way home from Trader Joe’s, I thought, “I think I will just stop in for a moment.”

I am always on the lookout for some pieces that may go with my new bed.

There was nothing there that would go with the bed;

however, there was something that called out to me!

Bread Boards-Housepitality Designs-2

No . . . not the bread boards or the pretty MacKenzie-Childs plate . . .

It is this beauty!

A MacKenzie Childs three tiered stand with bowls in the Courtly Check pattern.

The price? $58.00 for all four pieces . . . Score! . . . Happy Dance!

Angela, the sweet owner of the shop said that she thought of me

as soon as she placed it on display.

I believe she had just put it out right before I came in.

I so love the pretty details in the finial and “feet”.

The stand swivels, so you can arrange it many different ways.

The finial:

My hubby is a happy camper as he loves eating fruit throughout the day

and this will serve as  our mini fruit buffet!

I used to have multiple bowls of fruit on the vintage baker’s rack,

but that piece is currently in storage.

Since I placed the three tiered stand on the counter,

it caused the Domino Effect.

I thought, “hmmm, let’s try bringing out more of the Courtly Check pattern

that I have.” I posted about these pretties this past Christmas and you can see

it here: A Christmas Tablescape .

Previously, the counter was pretty neutral in color with a few pieces of ironstone.

Now it just pops with pattern!

In the Christmas Tablescape post, the teapot served as the centerpiece.

You may remember this:

Now it sits on the stove serving me well . . . boiling water for my tea!

I love the new look of this counter and I am sure it will go through

some tweaking here and there.

Now on to the GIVEAWAY!

I was contacted by the publisher of this book:

“Organizing For Your Lifestyle, Adaptable Inspirations from Socks to Suitcases”

by Jane Stoller.

She wanted me to  review this book and give away a copy to one of my readers.

This book truly does organize your lifestyle from socks to suitcases!

Organizing for your Lifestyle

I hate to admit that I have had this book for a while. I actually forgot about it

as MY HUBBY CONFISCATED IT,  as he loves reading about organizational techniques!

I found it in one of his bedside drawers when I was putting something away.

I asked him for his opinion. He stated that he loved how it covered so many

aspects of organizing other than just organizing an area like a closet. Which it does!

There are so many great tips and tidbits. I am in the process of applying one now

that I will reveal soon. It involves guests!. . . and I LOVED her idea!

This book will organize you as it says from socks to suitcases/travel.

I want to give you an excerpt of something that made me giggle (in a good way!)

This excerpt was taken from the book of “How to be a Parisian” 2014, the authors wrote about what

a Parisian woman would NEVER have in her closet:

1. Three inch heels . . . they prefer 6 inch heels.

2. Ugg boots.

3. Logo shirts

4. Sweatpants . . . but leggings are O.K.

5. Skimpy tops (not to be worn on women over the age of 15)

6. Anything fake

7. Anything that makes you sweat ….. like nylon, pleather, vinyl

So if you want a Parisian wardrobe . . .  throw away the above 🙂

In this book, I especially loved the tips of organizing yourself for travel.

So all you have to do is leave a comment on this post and you

will be entered to have the opportunity to win a copy of “Organizing for Your Lifestyle”

The giveaway ends at midnight on May 25th, 2018. Good luck!

Have a most beautiful day!!!

  14. The Courtly check pattern is so pretty, and it looks beautiful on your counter! Such a find, that serving piece is so handy, not just for fruit but for everything. I loved doing the teapot arrangement with you last holiday season, and love using my tea kettle for tea every day.

I laughed at the Parisian fashion rules, it’s true! All the bits except the uggs, when we were there I did actually see uggs, mostly on younger Parisians. But definitely NO sweatpants!! I think the biggest trick I learned in Paris is to accessorize, Parisian women almost always do, and they almost all wear a beautiful scarf when the weather is colder.

Happy Mother’s Day Shirley, I wish you a beautiful time with your beloved family Sunday! Love you, my friend.

  24. I enjoyed your post with your new Mackenzie Child’s find. Tomorrow is my birthday and my husband is taking me shopping to pick up a new piece for my very small collection. I’m still undecided which piece to choose. The book on organizing sounds like something I could use. I enjoyed How to Live like a Parisian, and the first thing I am doing is getting rid of my sweats. I never wear them anymore and they take up way too much space in my closet. Thank you for your inspiration and have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

I love organizing things but I am not good at it!

  44. Janine Wolfe says:

    Hi Shirley,
How did I miss you. I was at Always Home with my cousin who had never been and we did a little retail therapy. I know you and I are sisters of the heart and mind. I love Mackenzie Childs checks. I’ts beautiful and I just ordered the extra large bowl as a treat to myself. I love what you did with your tea kettle for Christmas. I need to reorganize my whole house and you are a great inspiration. I’m glad you had a great mother’s day and your mom is precious. My mom was 100% french. She would have agreed with your list of things she never wore. We had to fight to get her out of her 6in. heels at 80. She passed away in 2015 and I still miss her every day. Take care sweet friend and I hope to run into you soon.

  45. So funny that your husband had the book. Made me chuckle. Sounds like a great book.

  46. My motto: ” Organizing is my jam!” When my husband sees me reading my latest organizing book, he wonders why I haven’t written one yet!

  47. I could use more organization in my life!

  48. I am a firm believer that almost every kitchen is made prettier with a piece of Courtly Check!! Your tiered serving piece is wonderful! It’s definitely the perfect fruit holder this time of year.

About those fashion rules, I agree with most of them except…I have to have my inexpensive (fake) jewelry!
