Beautiful Blue and White

Beautiful blue and white makes me happy.

It was a dreary day yesterday and there was a bag from HomeGoods in the corner of the room

staring at me, saying, “let us out!”

And I did.

The Guest Room Is HomeGoods Happy

The guest room has been going through a transformation for a while.

Shopping and planning . . . planning and shopping.

I get an idea, then I change my mind.

However, I knew exactly what I wanted to do, in decorating the hutch.

It was just a matter of finding the right items. . . and I did.

Cue the HomeGoods Happy Song!

Master Bedroom Makeover Reveal

OK…I have teased you enough with my “sneaky peekies” of my bedroom.

You have seen a “sneak peek” of the fabric and pillows . . .

~ ~ some of which were made by my friend Linda.

So without further adieu . . .

Here is what I have been doing in the master bedroom.

DSC_7099

I found the duvet cover while at the Pottery Barn in Atlanta . . .

~ ~ it was on super clearance and it had to come home with me.

Sneaky Peekies of a Bedroom Makeover and Farmer’s Market Love

No…it is not my granddaughter’s space…still working on it . . .a slow process.

It is “MY” bedroom . . .

~ ~ while in Atlanta for the Haven Conference, Kim and I went to Pottery Barn . . .

~ ~ ~ ~ no surprise on that!

I found bedding that was on super clearance.

I have had it for a while; however, I needed to find some coordinating fabric for pillows.

DSC_6929

So my friend Linda to the rescue…making the euro shams and 2 pillows for me.

There are a couple of additions in the room from HomeGoods.

Sunroom-Housepitality Designs

There will be lots of changes coming up next week, like this area in my sunroom.

Farmers Market-Housepitality Designs

I made a trip to the Farmers’ Market yesterday to gather items for my front porch area.

Farmers Market 2014

And guess who I met there???….the pretty Lauren from The Endearing Home…

~ ~ She did a post today on beautiful pics of the Farmers Market . . so hop over and see!!

My friend Sherri took a pic of us….

~ ~ we were on a mission to get as many items in my van and do it in 2 hours.

Plate Inspired Fall Mantel

The last area to “fallify” was the mantel . . .

~ ~ however I did not want to add much fall foliage . . . just a simple vignette . . .

~ ~ ~ ~ to include the warm colors of Fall.

A bit of a departure from a past Fall Mantel.

DSC_6912

I started with this small platter by Myott & Sons, England/Banff, that I purchased for $5.00 . . .

~ ~ in an antique shop in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Sunflower Inspired Decor

The other day, I was “on the hunt” for a new pillow for the great room.

I really did not have anything in mind . . . other than it had to coordinate with a gold throw.

Sunflower Decor

The pillow is crewel work of a pretty gold and brown flower . . .

~ ~ it reminded me of the colors of sunflowers.

Sunflower Decor

Found the throw at HomeGoods too . . it has a “furry” texture on one side . . .

~ ~ and a velvet texture on the other side.

Sunflower Decor

After I left HomeGoods, I went directly to Trader Joe’s to purchase some sunflowers.

I grabbed my red transferware pitcher that I purchased on my France trip and arranged the flowers.

Sunflower Decor

Sunflower Decor

My newly purchased ironstone tureen (my Pennsylvania deal) holds red apples for added color to the table.

Sunflower Decor

I changed out the garden stool that stood beside the chair and added the French Wine Picnic Basket . . .

~ ~ another find from France.

Funny how a item such as this pillow can inspire you to change things about . . .

~ ~ to keep the room fresh and interesting. Pretty changes . . . a good thing.

Have a wonderful day filled with inspiration!

My High Low Project

I have been an Ethan Allen fan all my life…still am..

I wanted new lamps for the living room…I have had my eye on these wonderful lamps at Ethan Allen.

They were on sale…however, even on sale, they would have been over $700 for the pair..

So I left the store…..Leaving those beauties behind.

Looking sad :( I asked my hubby if he would not mind driving me by the new HomeGoods..

…..that was just around the corner.

He obliged…what a guy!

DSC_1562

I walked into HomeGoods and headed straight to the lamp section…

Que the choir of Angels…!!!

DSC_1574

Yes, this has been the week of lamps around here…

I wanted the look of those lamps that are made from vintage porch posts or balustrades …

DSC_1561

Ones that would blend in well with my other architectural elements in the room…

…..and the colors in my chair.

DSC_1564

Mission accomplished…

AND, the price was right!!!…$700 vs. just a tad over $100…

Lamps by Raymond Waites….Happy Dance by HomeGoods.

DSC_1571

I was lucky that I walked into HomeGoods when I did…I think they just put those lamps out…

…..and as I was wheeling the cart around..many asked, “are there more of those”???

“Sorry”…(Que the Violins)…I did not see anymore of these…but we have 5 HomeGoods in our area…

And that’s a good thing!

Hope you have a great week of finding wonderful deals and treasures!

DSC_1219

DSC_1221

So what’s a Lifesaver doing on a napkin?

DSC_1197

Ta Da!!…The “Water Lily” napkin fold needed something in the middle of the flower…

…..so the Lifesaver mint doubles as decoration for the napkin and an after dinner mint!

I will be posting the napkin tutorial soon.

DSC_1196

The original place setting was going to be this one….Dinner Plate, Lenox Butler’s Pantry.

Salad plate and bowl is Noritake Summer Estate.

The actual table setting was meant to be simple…along with the meal…

…..so I thought a “pretty folded napkin” would add some character to the table.

A Guest Bath Makeover

For 8 years I have been wanting to change out the mirrors in one of the guest bathrooms…

It is the smaller of the two guest baths.

One of my favorite stores was closing and I snagged a couple of mirrors for $12.50 each!

I painted them and here is the result:

DSC_1143

After….

DSC_1598

Here was the “Before”….

As you can see they were very large and “dark”…

DSC_1104

So I took the two mirrors and painted them with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.

DSC_1109

Used my trusty Frog Tape..and I started painting away…

DSC_1107

I usually paint in the garage…

…..and do not mind it at all, as I can watch my favorite HGTV shows at the same time.

The channel is usually set on HGTV or of course, ESPN.

DSC_1118

I love the shape and color of the mirrors now…they coordinate well with the cabinetry.

Not a bad investment…a total of $25 for both mirrors!..

DSC_1135

DSC_1139

DSC_1140

I replaced the candlesticks with topiaries…

…..trying to obtain a garden feel to the room.

DSC_1136

DSC_1148

The lantern and plates remain in the room..

DSC_1152

DSC_1131

DSC_1130

This wall was blank…I purchased one canvas print from HomeGoods…

…..and snagged the other print from my bathroom “privy” area.

No worries that this left a “blank area” in the “privy”…I bought something else to replace it! :)

DSC_1112

I purchased this “plaster” column at a yard sale for $5.00…

I applied Annie Sloan Dark Wax to the column.

DSC_1124

DSC_1123

The dark wax actually created a “wood” effect.

DSC_1134

The column was placed under the existing art…

….the frame of the art was originally all gold and I painted a portion of it white.

The frame feels less heavy now.

DSC_1128

DSC_1142

The bookcase across from the vanity has been re-styled…for now…still tweaking it.

I purchased this bookcase many years ago from a consignment shop…it is Drexel Heritage…an older piece.

…..I had a decorative painter paint it to match the wallpaper in a previous bathroom.

DSC_1132

So this is what I have been working on these past few days.

As I was taking pics in this room without a window….

…..it emphasizes the fact for me to make another purchase.

For my camera that is…a much needed flash attachment so I can take decent pictures of a low lit room.

And…..there is one more thing that I have been working on these past few days..

…..I am getting ready for a dinner party at my house this week.

DSC_1155

Can you guess the theme?

Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

I Love Topiaries….My HomeGoods Finds

What did we ever do without the great shopping experience of HomeGoods?!!!..

I always find some great treasures every time I visit…and this visit was no exception.

I love topiaries and when I entered the store, and saw this one…it quickly went into my cart!

DSC_8875

Oh, I know..it’s faux…but it really looks real!..no watering, no dying of a dreaded plant disease!

DSC_8876

I had purchased these small topiaries from HomeGoods a while ago…

Now I know this container may be a bit small for the large topiary…

…..I am “on the lookout” for a larger piece of pottery, maybe a confit jar…

“Confit”…hey I am practicing for my France trip with Kim and Kim

DSC_8867

Don’t you think this spiral topiary looks pretty real?…

DSC_8869

The backdrop is a piece of “gingerbread trim” that I purchased from none other than Kristen!

One day we will get to hanging this beauty, but until then, it has a home in the dining room.
