A Furniture Shuffle for Staging and Simple Fall Touches

I have been  eliminating some small pieces of furniture in each room of the house

to gain a less cluttered, cleaner look, staging the house to place it on the market.

Some pieces of furniture were sent to storage and some danced to the Furniture Shuffle.

A furniture shuffle for staging and simple fall touches occurred in the Media Room.

While I am still tweaking this room, I thought I would show you

one side of the room today.

Media Room Simply Dressed for Christmas

The last room I decorated was the Media Room simply dressed for Christmas.

Using Holiday pillows which can be taken into the Winter months,

and a few things here and there to give the room a festive look.

Vintage Chippiness

I wanted to have another table surface in the kitchenette of the Media room.

So what do you do? You shop the house and the attic too!

I remembered I had a painted vintage drop leaf table in the attic

that was left over from the antique booth days. I measured and it was perfect.

So down it came.

Toile and Leather

Toile and leather . . . a happy combination?

Recently two chairs were removed from the media room

and given to my son to use in his new home.

They left a bit of a space for me to fill.

Rather than buying new chairs for now,

I brought in my hubby’s favorite chair that was in his office and  used to be in the family rooms

of our past 3 homes. It is dark in color, a classic flame stitch pattern,  and I wanted to obtain chairs

of a lighter fabric to brighten up the room. However for now, this chair will be just fine.

HGTV 2016 Smart Home – Part 3 Great porches and more!

Did y’all see the HGTV 2016 Smart Home on TV? Yes, set in the great city of Raleigh, N.C.

I am a bit biased as I live in this beautiful area of North Carolina.

With shows such as the HGTV Smart Home, I not only watch it as it airs,

I also DVR it so that I can see it multiple times to take in every detail

missed the first time around!

I had the privilege of touring this home, studying every detail

with the expertise of the HGTV staff answering our many questions.

Today, I will present the remaining rooms in this home tour series of the porches, media room,

laundry room and more.

Let’s begin with one of the porches.

Our Media Room Dressed for Christmas

Our media room is basically like a family room.

We call it the media room as we gather there when we have a crowd to watch T.V.

It is a great place to gather as we have a little kitchenette

in that room to serve food and beverages.

There is a fireplace in that room, so there is another mantel to decorate!

How To Work With A TV Over A Mantel

Many of us these days have TV’s over a mantel that is located in a family room

or in my case, what we call our media room.

A place where we retreat to when there are more than just the two of us watching TV.

Where there is very large sofa and chairs to accommodate a crowd.

Staging a mantel with a TV mounted over it  can be a challenge.

Being careful that you do not obstruct or detract from the TV viewing.

So using some things that I already had and some vintage items I recently purchased,

I began to create a new “TV Mantelscape”

A New Perspective and Vignette

I planned to write this post the other night; however, I was distracted . . .

and a bit worried. For you see, my hubby was driving home in potentially bad weather to get home

hoping to, one, get home before the big snow event and secondly, be home to help me for

another event, thankfully not a snow one!

Media Room-Housepitality Designs

He left D.C. bound for N.C. (love those acronyms) with the hopes of driving ahead of the storm.

Me???….I think I was the one with the white knuckles . . . Clutching the phone tight,

calling him every hour on the hour with detailed radar reports.

Great Room-Housepitality Designs

Yep . . . felt like the weather girl pointing out the storm on the radar, telling him,

“now if you make such and such by this time, you will miss the sleet.”

Great Room-Housepitality Designs

“And if you make this town by this time, you will miss the snow.”

White knuckle phone grip . . .

All the while that I was talking to him on the phone . . . me calling him, as I did not want him

to take his eye off the road . . . In between calls, I was laughing inside . . .

my way of keeping calm.

Media Room-Housepitality Designs

Why was I laughing?

Media Room Ottoman-Housepitality Designs

It’s because he was driving home from being in DC for most of the week and that day he was speaking . . .

to a group on subject matters relating to Climate Change!

Media Room-Housepitality Designs

Climate has certainly led the news of late . . . this winter has seemed to drag on slowly . . .

leaving its footprints behind . . . interrupting our daily routines. . . now really Mother Nature!

Media Room-Housepitality Designs

OK…He has 10 more miles to go . . . ten miles from home.

The snow was coming down in huge flakes . . . visibility was near zero . . .

Media Room-Housepitality Designs

My white knuckles and I stayed on the phone with him . . .

As he turned on to the main road in which 5 miles down is the entrance to our subdivision.

My heart racing as he said, “I cannot tell where the road is, it is all one white plain and no

tire tracks to follow.” Driving slowly and carefully.

Media Room-Housepitality Designs

“I see the entrance . . . I am home! . . . Well almost.”

I stayed on the phone until I saw the headlights enter the driveway and I ran to open the garage door

so he would not have to take his hand off the wheel and reach for the door opener.

My knuckles got their color back . . .

But my hubby lost his rosy cheeks when I hugged him so tightly . . .

that he started to look like my white knuckles.

Today, I originally planned to talk about how I just removed the last of the Christmas decorations

from this room and the new vignette I created. . .

and the new throw on the ottoman that was a beautiful gift.

But that seems so trivial to me now. I just had to talk about the guy who made it home safe and sound.

The guy that chose this house plan because of this very room that he thought was pretty awesome.

We lost power early the night before and just got it back late this evening.

I am thankful for what is important, family. I will save the vignette talks for later! 🙂

Have a wonderful, wonderful day snuggled in your home safe and sound.

Nutcracker Tree and the Christmas Media Room

In our Media Room, I usually have a tree that is specifically designed

for my granddaughter each year.

It has always been themed with something that she particularly loved during the year . . .

~ ~ like the year she was into Tinkerbell and dressed as her on Halloween.

However, this year, we placed a small tree . . . a very small tree in her room. . .

~ ~ the space that she has in our house in which she has requested more pink be added.

I did not plan a tree in the media room this year; however, I could not help myself!!

A Room “Less Traveled” – A Special Visit – A Halloween Cutie

When I had company of blogging friends and their hubbies . . .

~ ~ well, let me re-word that “FRIENDS” . . . .

~ ~ ~ ~ let’s leave the “blogging” out . . . as they are great “FRIENDS”

One of them asked me why I do not blog much about this room.

Don’t know why, maybe because it is hard to photograph . . . .
