French Antique Basket of Great Textures

I cannot leave enough alone. I was rearranging my pretties on my coffee table

and I decided to grab my antique bread basket that I found in France

and fill it with pretties.

A floral arrangement of sorts of many pretties with a wide variety of colors,

faux and natural elements, all to make a French antique basket of great textures.

A Vignette Inspired By A Beautiful Book, My High-Low Project

I love beautiful home decor books.

I came across this book, “Beautiful” by Mark D. Sikes

while reading a review on it by the lovely ladies of Design Chic.

I ordered this book right away and was totally immersed in the magnificent

rooms and decor featured in his  book.

While reading this book, I  came across a vignette on a skirted table

that I knew I could somewhat replicate on a budget, by actually shopping the house.

So I began to collect those items and I created

a vignette inspired by a Beautiful book,  my High Low project.

Vignettes Tell A Story and A Winner

Do your vignettes tell a story?

Mine always seem like they do.

Whenever I gather things to place on a table or a surface/area I am styling,

I think of each piece and the story behind it.

Whether it be a memory of a friend, a place that I traveled to, or a shopping experience

with friends or family. There is always a story. Stories of  fun times and

sometimes bittersweet, because  that particular memory is that of a person who is  longer with us.

Something I Could Not Pass Up

During my travels last month, I had the pleasure of making an overnight stop

on our way home ( in-between trips) and visit our friends

who live on St. Simon’s Island. As soon as we arrived, we were treated to lunch

and a visit with their beautiful grandchildren and daughter in law.

After lunch,  the grands headed back home and JoAnn and I hit the roads and went shopping,

The guys took the bikes and biked on the beaches of Jekyll Island.

While the guys got their exercise from biking,  we get ours by running  . . . . .

in and out of shops!!!  My kind of exercise!

It was on my shopping adventure with JoAnn that I saw something. . . .

Something I Could Not Pass Up!!!

Elegance and A Little Rough Around the Edges

You probably heard the saying that opposites attract?

Like the characters in the movie, Lady and the Tramp,

or Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimaggio.

Well what about exquisite Waterford

and a wonderful piece of vintage chippiness?

It’s Like Jewelry

It’s like jewelry . . . step back, take a look and eliminate at least one item

of accessories . . . one piece of jewelry, maybe nix the scarf.

This past weekend, I did this, but with items on a shelf or table

and in one case, something sitting on the floor.

I kept walking by the sofa table and it bothered me.

I knew it just wasn’t just right.

This is what it looked like AFTER I made the adjustment.

Imitation . . . The Sincerest Form of Flattery

I think it was George Bernard Shaw that said,

“Imitation is not just the sincerest form of flattery,

it is the sincerest form of learning.”

And that is what I did today . . . learn . . . from some of the best.

I did it again . . . I took a magazine cover and I tweaked it for a summer vignette.

It all began with a Garden Stool

A couple of weekends ago, I was in Richmond, Virginia

attending one of my hubby’s tournaments.

Between games, I did the usual.

I looked up the nearby HomeGoods from my phone and off I went.

I do love shopping in HomeGoods in other cities

as I do find things that my local stores do not have.

Inspiration from a Magazine Cover

I love my shelter magazines.

As a teenager, I would forego buying a tube of lipstick and buy a House Beautiful or a

Better Homes and Gardens magazine instead.  It brought me hours of joy dreaming of interiors

I hoped to have someday.

I must admit, I am a magazine hoarder and keep special issues or boxes of a favorite magazine.

I Couldn’t Leave Them Behind, So I Broke My Own Rule

I couldn’t leave them behind, so I broke my own rule.

My rule of trying to re-design my interiors, using what I already had in the house.

I was doing pretty good, until I saw these.

Temptation set in, and it won.
