FIESTA IN THE DINER…

Many years ago, while browsing in an antique shop with my sister, I came across a set of very colorful, happy

dishes…I was immediately drawn to the bright colors..The store owner told me that they were Fiestaware.

…….Fiestaware?…that certainly is a great name for them as they were so “festive”!!!

The store owner had a place setting of 4 in the various colors of yellow, light green, turquoise and ivory and

the price was right…$20 for the entire set (dinner plate, bread plate, cup and saucer, a total of 16

pieces)….At that time, I figured, what the heck, for $20, I will buy them..

…….WELL…soon after I purchased them, they appeared on the cover of Country Living Magazine…needless to

say..no longer are the sets of 4 for $20…Then came my quest to complete the collection of the 5 original colors

and the red (actually orange) that came into production 2 years after the original 5 colors.

…….So today, I am setting my dinette table in our “diner” that is located in our media room.

………………………..HOPE YOU ENJOY A BLAST FROM THE PAST!!…………………………………….

IMG_2126

I am using the yellow and turquoise today..the bowls were a gift from my sister. Fiestaware was introduced in 1936 by the Homer Laughlin Pottery Company. They introduced 5 original colors of blue (cobalt), turquoise, yellow, light green, and ivory. Two years later, they introduced the red, which really is orange…

IMG_2132

I placed my cute kitty “days of the week” tea towels under each place setting…

IMG_2129

I thought for a moment the white dots were chips!..Whew, they are just the light reflecting off the dishes!

IMG_2137

These cute frosted vintage glasses belonged to my mother-in-law.

I placed an African Violet in a small pitcher

Diner table necessities..straws, napkins, Fiestaware yellow salt and pepper, and mustard jar by Hall.

Since Valentine’s Day is around the corner..I placed a vintage stand up Valentine given to me by my sister..Don’t they look like the Campbell Soup Kids?

IMG_2135

Covered butter dish by McCoy…

IMG_2142

More Fiesta..

IMG_2162

The “Diner”..we originally were planning to build a bar on the right side of this area..but it morphed into a Diner of sorts, allowing me to place my vintage pieces in that area…I sold many of my antiques prior to moving. I think I am having some seller’s remorse on some things…

IMG_2160

My Lance cracker and Tom’s Peanut Jars..Notice the Jelly Belly dispenser is empty!

IMG_2157

And across the way are my vintage picnic baskets..

IMG_2158

I love collecting old Salesman calling cards..I especially love this one as it has my maiden name on it…How great a find was that?!!

IMG_2164

This is one of my favorite vintage Valentine post cards…HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!

Hope you enjoyed my “Diner”…Also known as “Graylyn’s Diner”..she loves it…I see a sign coming in the future..

Please feel free to leave me a comment. Would love to hear from you!!..

So colorful! What a fun table. When we bought our summer cottage i cleaned out closets full of Fiesta. But I didnt know what it was, and got rid of it! πŸ™
I have the basket on top! I got it with green stamps when I was first married. I like vintage rather than old.
I have a needlepoint pillow that says, Grandma’s are Antique Little Girls! πŸ™‚
Enjoy your Sunday. We had snow today, Spring is a long way off here.

I love the diner look you’ve set up here, Shirley! That blue is so striking ~ isn’t it funny how it is such a popular color again. You’ve got a lovely collection here and they look like a fun set to use here.

Your Fiestaware tablescape is so perfect for a winter day…warm and cheeerful. Of course it’s great any time of year, too.. πŸ™‚ Love the embroidered day-of-the-week tea towels that you used as napkins. Your Tom’s and Lance cracker jars are such great pieces, both for practicality and vintage look. I have a Gordon’s jar in my kitchen. It was in my mom and dad’s grocery store when I was growing up. I looked at some in an antique store the other day and nearly fell over at the price they were asking. Yikes!
Thanks for showing your neat vintage collections.

Love the colorful tablescape and it warms my heart on this cold morning. It’s nice to see so many vintage pieces on display in such a tasteful arrangement. I usually set my table with my Fiesta ware in summer but maybe I should reconsider my thinking and do it in winter to warm things up! It’s so funny my friend that I just brought my Lance and Tom’s jars down to our media room yesterday to fill with snacks. Great minds think alike.

What fun, Shirley, to share all your vintage pieces, just perfect for Fiestaware. I have 10 plates I bought at a garage sale years ago for $5. I often wish for more pieces but am not willing to pay current prices. Good job creating a very happy setting.

Hi Shirley, What a wondefful collection of Fiesta ware! I escpecially love the turquoise. I have one turquoise pitcher that I picked up at a thrift store for 1.50. It was marked $42. I think it is a repro not an original , but i still love it. You have such a wonderful collection of treasures in your home. The framed advertisement with your maiden name is a real find! I also love your table and chair set. I am a lover of red so naturally it caught my eye. Your days of the week towels were a cute addition to your table. What a bright and cheery post!

I’m not quite sure where to start! I had no idea Fiestaware was actually affordable at one time! The price has just skyrocketed!!!!!! You have a lot of really, really cool stuff, Shirley! I understand about the seller’s remorse. I had it (and still painfully do!) when I sold so much of my stuff a couple of years ago when I retired. I am afraid to even have a garage sale now because I’m afraid I’ll get caught up i the moment again! πŸ™‚ The tea towels are just the cutest! I remember my Mom having some of those. She doesn’t keep much of anything, so I’m sure they’re goners. πŸ™ I LOVE the lemon & cherry glasses! Makes me crave cherry lemonade…maybe with a splash of a little something-something! πŸ˜‰ I’ve never seen such a small butter churn! I always thought they were those big honkin’ things that took the strength of Hercules to turn! As for your “diner”…COOL IDEA!!! It’s really unique, it has a bit of nostalgia, and it’s just downright fun! Your pie safe is gorgeous!!! I stupidly sold mine a few years back when we moved. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!! We have to stop kicking ourselves, though. What’s done is done. Time to make some new memories!
