I made this project for 3 reasons:
First reason: Cuz it was easy..as in “easy peasy” “it’s a cinch”….gonna join the Cinchy Project
Party at Thistlewood…on Tuesday, March 27th
Second reason: Needed to do a burlap project…
Other than my burlap curtains, thanks also to Thistlewood Farm..See HERE..
You see…..EVERYONE in blogland is doing the burlap thing…
Third reason and most important: This is my project for the “Pass It On Project”. Read about it HERE…
I will be posting about this in my very next post…
So here is how the Burlap Chalk Board started:
A framed cork bulletin board I purchased from HomeGoods..actually, I purchased 2 of them for the “Pass It On
Project”
1/8″ plywood was cut to 1/2 of the size of the cork board area and then 2 coats of primer were rolled on…
Then 3 coats of chalkboard paint were applied…
Two strips of pre-painted trim molding were cut to the size of the chalk board pieces…
Then applied using wood glue to separate the sections and finish the edge of the chalkboard..
I kept the cardboard protectors on to avoid any “boo-boo’s”…
I then took fringed burlap ribbon and cut them into four strips and glued them down onto the cork board…
So..were you wondering where the burlap was in this project??..
So, what do you think??…Looks so much better than cork..and burlapy things are just so “in”….
So here it is…My Burlap Chalk Board…now you can say, “you have heard of such a thing”….
I am passing on one of my very favorite quotes and song…”I Hope You Dance”…As when “I grow up” I want to be a “Dancer”…so I Hope You Dance in every aspect of life, from the deepest depths of your heart and soul..

Oh that is the coolest thing ever. I think I will have to make one of those for moi! I love how you can write notes but also pin pics and such on it too. Good job girlfriend. This is such a great project that Karianne has started. I love the concept, too, of “pass it on.” Kudos to her for thinking of it, and kudos to you for creating such a great item to share with some lucky Blogger. Hope you survived our very wet weekend. Blessings, Barb
Awesome, so cute. Ginger
I hadn’t heard about the pass it on thing. Great idea. Love your burlap chalk board! That would be perfect over my desk too. Great idea. XO, Pinky
Very neat, Shirley! I like the fact that you made it a half and half board, too!
This is a very cute idea! I love the combination of color and texture- and how fun to write a note in whatever way your mood strikes you. ๐
It’s adorable! Love the two different textures together.
Shirley,
What a cute idea ๐
I love burlap and I love chalkboard! Perfect combination!
And we all need a little more kindness. You are a rock star.

Such a great idea. I love the look. Very clever. Hugs, Marty
You did a great job on that! That’s both pretty and functional. I just noticed your countertops look like mine. I bet we have the same granite!
Shirley, what a great project!! It’s a fun way to add a touch of burlap to any decor! This was so creative!
This is fantastic! I love that you made it dual purpose. Thanks for sharing at Manic Monday.
I love all things burlap and chalkboard! Never saw it done with the strips – love it! Glad you are joining our It’s a Cinch party and passing this on too!

So I thought you claimed to be craft challenged … or am I mistaken? If not, you are now a crafter in the true-est sense of the word. Combining chalkboard paint and burlap …
And if the frame was something you paid $1 at Goodwill and spray painted white?
You would be the Trifecta of crafters …

LOVE This!!! WHat a great project!
I like the overlapped burlap. Great texture.
I like the half/half look! I found you on Debbiedoos and I’m now a follower; would love for you to do the same. Tx
GREAT project! You took something that was “pretty” and really took it to a whole other level! LOVE the strips of burlap — pinning that idea!
I think this projetct is clever. I think the burlap adds interest and texture. Great idea.
This looks great! . I am looking forward to seeing you at My Dream Canvas. Visiting you from Wow Us Wednesday
