Housepitality Designs

it's all about the hospitable home

April 11, 2012 By Shirley

Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night with….

An idea…

Your head swimming with the thought of an idea….

You try to go back to sleep and hope that when you wake up…

YOU REMEMBER YOUR IDEA!!!

Well, I did that last night…

Had an idea…a “Freshy” idea…for definition of “Freshy” click Here..

I needed “something” to go over the bed in the main guest room…it is a king size bed, so needed more than just one item over it..something different…

An epihany!…

IMG_2328

To use leftover fabric and frame it…I saw it done in the HGTV Dream Home..in which I did not win ๐Ÿ™ ..
They framed fabric and hung it over that gorgeous fireplace…talk about cheap…no inexpensive…art

IMG_2356

I proceeded to measure and cut…See..no power tools required!!

IMG_2358

Set the matte to get the design I wanted…Look Karah, (the space between blog)..still no power tools or band-aids required…hubby would be proud…

IMG_2359

So here you go..one with a matte…

IMG_2357

And one without….

VOILA!!!…Easy Peasy…It’s a Cinch!…

The inspiration for the fabric was the bedding by Pottery Barn, Sienna Paisley
The coverlet is Pottery Barn Pin Tuck, egyptian cotton euros and bedskirt by Martha Stewart..

A chair from my sunroom/keeping room..recovered in the “fabric”

This room is still a work in progress…more things to hang and pieces to paint and accessories to tweak…

Hope you enjoyed my “easy peasy…it’s a cinch…wake up in the middle of the night” project.

Fabulous! I was going to try covering art canvas with fabric, but I like your idea better. My problem is no talent at choosing fabric to go with the color scheme of the room. Great job!

Great idea, Shirley! I have three canvases that I am going to wind up redoing and I may cover them in fabric. They are in my guest room also. I have a similar color on the walls in our guest room, too. That may be a summer project though as I want to get an upholstered headboard in there first. Right now the canvases work to kind of hide the fact that there is no headboard.

Wow, Shirley! Your fabric art is just gorgeous in your guest room. In fact, I love everything in there. If I were to get an idea in the middle of the night, it would be forgotten by the time I got up the next day! Things usually hit me in the shower. I enjoyed reading your Easter post, too. Our grandchildren lived in Chapel Hill for about 2 years. They went to the elementary school next to the university. Now they live in Mt. Pleasant.

Love your new art in the guest room and love the price tag even more! Just a hint to the other commenters….keep a note pad on your night stand. Then you can write your ideas down in the middle of the night and go back to sleep until you execute them in the morning. I can’t wait to be a guest in your beautiful room.

I do love it. And I can relate to that “hope I remember this in the morning” experience. This is a great idea….I need something over my bed. Thank you for inspiring us at Show & Tell.

Shirley, what a great idea! The fabric looks wonderful. I have seen them do that on HGTV, as well. Very clever! I love your entire room!

This is a GREAT idea. I like the that you matted some of the fabric. Now I wish I had some left over fabric. Oh well I can go buy some new fabric to frame! Thanks I just love it.

Hahaha! Thanks so much for the shout out! For some reason I’m now thinking “look mom, no hands” … but if you could make that without using your hands I would be wicked impressed.
I love the new art…and I also didn’t win the dream home. ๐Ÿ™

I haven’t woken up, but I sure have had trouble falling asleep because of my excitement over something that I had an “aha” moment over. I really love the fabric you chose for framing. The frames look great in your guest room!
