To Honor The Best….

My Dad…he was the best….

He taught us kids…to respect…to love…to honor…

For, this country IS the best……

……and this week we honor….the best of the best.

We honor those who fought for our freedoms….

……and sacrificed their lives….lives that could have been…the lives that should have been…..

To walk in the comfort of knowing that we can be the best we can be….

……to make our dreams a reality… hitch a wagon to a star.

We thank you….our service men and women….we thank you for your service to our country…..

…..We thank your families for their sacrifice…..their loss…our loss,

…………of wonderful unselfish men and women

…………………….who gave their lives, so that we can live….in peace.

To live in this great land of beauty and magnificence…..

…..of bountiful farms….of bustling cities….of majestic mountains soaring toward the skies….

…..of rivers flowing…..and lakes that sparkle in the morning sun…..

…..of babies taking their first breath..

…………….. as the beginning of their journey of a wonderful life.

For this….we thank you….thank you for your sacrifice.

I hope that my dad is looking down at me…from the beautiful heavens…and saying that he is proud…..

……of how I treasure my freedom….my country…that I live my life, to love, and respect, and honor….

……they way that he taught me…with the utmost integrity.

So on this Memorial Day….I thank our men and women who sacrificed their lives…..

…….so we can “hitch a wagon to a star”….(Ralph Waldo Emerson)

What a thoughtful, timely post for our men and women in the service. Great Picture of your dad. Just think, if your dad hadn’t served over in Japan, he never would have met your beautiful mother. Sometimes wonderful things come out of horrific duty for our country.

  4. Very well said, Shirley. Too many people don’t truly realize the sacrifice of the military members and their families. Happy Memorial Day to you, my friend!

Shirley, very well said and I am sure your Dad is looking down at you and beaming with pride. I miss my Dad, too and am thankful for the sacrifices he made for our country and the values he taught me. They were the greatest generation.

  8. Worthy sentiments, beautifully expressed Shirley! I agree 100 percent. How fortunate we are that men (and women) like your father served, and continue to serve our country to preserve our freedoms. Thank you for the reminder that this coming weekend is not just about an extra day off from work and cookouts in the backyard. Bless you for passing on your father’s pride in, and dedication to, our country.

Your porch looks lovely and so patriotic; thanks so much for sharing. And thank you for your visit and kind comments on my kitchen progress. One of these days I will have a finished product to show you. 🙂

  9. That’s right…..Memorial Day is this weekend. I almost forgot with everything I have going on around here. I will have to put some flags out too. Yours look nice on your porch. It is a time to remember the great sacrifices that our service men and women made for us.

  10. This hits home for me (you should read my post today). I’m sure your dad is looking down and smiling at you 🙂 I think the flags on your porch look awesome!! It’s easy for people who don’t have any relation to the military to forget what they are sacrificing, so thank you for recognizing and honoring our country’s men and women! I hope you have a great Memorial Day!
