A Wasp Catcher

While having a great lunch and strolling through the beautiful Fearrington Village…

….. of course I had to stop in and stroll through one of the shops.

My eye immediately caught these beauties:

DSC_2417

The sales associate said that they were wasp catchers….

…..you place something sweet in the bottle and hang it from the handle…

………the wasps fly in and can’t get out.

However, I thought it was way too cute to hang out on the porch…..

DSC_2502

Thought it looked cuter on the table in the sunroom….where I could enjoy it more often.

DSC_2501

A visit was paid by the dragonfly (silk of course)….but no wasps!

DSC_2503

I had my granddaughter over this afternoon while her mom was at school….

……She never misses a thing…

DSC_2510

DSC_2500

“Grandma….What’s this????”…

…..”Well, it is a wasp catcher”….

DSC_2507

“But there are no wasps in the house….

……why is it on the table”?

DSC_2508

“Because it is cute!!!”…

…..”Oh, but will the wasps come in the house?”…..”no, only pretty little silk dragonflies”…..

DSC_2505

So for now…the wasps will continue to buzz away on the porches….

DSC_2509

Because, this wasp catcher has found a great home inside the house…..

DSC_2504

Rather than outside…..

Catching wasps!!!….

So, would you hang the “catcher” outside?… Or leave it indoors, so you can enjoy it so much more!

When someone mentioned the wasp catcher on your last post, I didn’t even know what they were talking about. I thought they were demijons.
I would probably hang one on my front porth. It would be pretty to look at and hopefully trap the wasps that are always trying to build homes under our porch railings.
Last year a wasp bored a hole in the flag pole. He moved on after we put insect spray in the hole.
The wasp catcher would look much better than that a spray can.

I actually have one of tthose w/out the basket or the topper. I’ve had it in various spots in my house and like to add in a small electric candle through the bottom hole. It makes a really cute lamp.

I’d fill it with wine and use it as a decanter at an outdoor or casual dinner party. But then, that’s how I think. Go figure!

I’ve never seen a wasp catcher before. Cute as can be and the possibilities for filling it are endless. I found pretty blue and green glass ones on Amazon but…they had no wicker container and seeemed smaller. I like yours exactly where you have it.

Love those Shirley! I have never heard of such a thing. Why can’t they get back out? We have sooo many wasps around here that we keep wasp spray on the Back porch. I wish we could get rid of them.

I have actually been stung by the rogue wasp in the house before….I think I would keep it in the house and USE it there! Seriously though, this is really charming with the dragonflies on it.

Love the wasp catcher and I wouldn’t put it outside either. It’s too pretty for that…plus I wouldn’t want to clean it out after it had caught a wasp LOVE< LOVE your coffee table vignette and the sweet dragonfly.
