Side Table and Magazine Rack Makeovers…

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

I had a wonderful brunch with my family.

After brunch, my son and his family went off to the State Park for the afternoon…

…..it was a beautiful day.

As for me?….my hubby drove me to Ikea (a 2 1/2 hour drive)…

…..to buy much needed items to complete projects.

And speaking of projects…

I was working all day yesterday painting items that have been living in the attic.

I painted this side table that I have had for many, many years.

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Old Ochre…the side table is solid pine with a dark walnut stain.

I did a little distressing…

And a little styling…

…..and it’s off to my booth!

I cannot tell you how many times this magazine rack almost went out in the yard sale…

…..but I held back.

I also painted this solid pine piece with ASCP Old Ochre..

I really like it here…but I have to be good and let it go…

…..so now I am off take these items to my booth and buy more paint!!!

It is so beautiful here today so I am looking forward to my drive to the quaint city of Mebane.

Hope your day is as beautiful!!

  6. Great pieces, Shirley! They look lovely with their new paint jobs. I love that magazine rack and it does look good in your sunroom!

  7. How lovely those pieces are! I’m supposed to take a chalk paint class tomorrow night at Melville Trading. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled. I’m anxious to learn so I can paint an old secretary I have in my breakfast nook.

  8. I don’t know HOW you’re able to let those pieces go after putting so much work into them to make such lovely new pieces!!!!!! You are very strong. I am weak. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m glad to hear you had a good Mother’s Day!

  9. They turned out beautifully, Shirley. I have a little sweetgrass basket just like the one in the photo, bought from a basket maker at the old market in Charleston. Her grandson made it.

I did the stove top vignette this morning, inspired by the one in the show house, and posted about it. I am going to work on a floral arrangement, inspired by that tour, also.

  10. Ok, I will act as your enabler. I think the magazine rack needs to stay there. ๐Ÿ˜€ You are really getting to be quite the ASCP expert. Proud of you. Those two pieces look great! xxoo

  11. Shirley, these look wonderful! You did an awesome job painting these! Paint magic- I love the transformation! I love updating pieces like this!

You know you can never have enough magazine racks…especially when they are that nice! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. The table and mag rack look wonderful, Shirley, almost like they were made to go together. Love the distressing on them, too.

  17. Love your makeovers Shirley! Your magazine rack looks like it was a challenge to paint with all those spindles, I’d have a hard time parting with it! Glad your Mother’s Day was happy ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. so fun to make over those old pieces… love what you’ve done, Shirley! And what a sweet hubby to brave the drive and IKEA experience. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. It would be hard for me to part with those pieces! They are gorgeous, and I’m sure someone will snap them up quickly in your booth! Do you drive to the Charlotte IKEA? It is only a little over an hour’s drive for us. Need to go soon!

  20. Shirley, What a great and interesting table! Such a very fun design. I bet you are so glad you took it out of the attic!!! I’m going to take a second look at Old Ochre. It looks fabulous on your table and magazine rack!!!

  23. Hope you had a great time at Ikea, I was there today! ๐Ÿ™‚ Your painted pieces always look so nice, that is such a great color…someone will be lucky to take your piece home!

  24. I would do the same thing as you and paint those pieces. It immediately gave them a great look! I bet they’ll sell quickly. I have a lot of items stored in the basement that I usually end up taking to a consignment store if I’m done using them. If I had a booth, I would do what you’re doing. What a great way to recycle things and make money at the same time.

  25. Both pieces look great, Shirley!

Where in Mebane do you have your booth?

  26. These look great, Shirley. I bet they won’t stay around the booth for long!

  27. Do you mind if I quote a few of your articles as long as I provide credit and
sources back to your webpage? My website is in the very same
niche as yours and my visitors would definitely benefit from a lot of
the information you present here. Please let me know if this ok with you.
    Cheers!
