A Summer Coastal Vignette…Adding More Driftwood Decor

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of participating in the North Carolina Hometalk Bloggers Meetup.

It was a great event of shopping, dining, and spending time with fellow bloggers. (A post on this event coming soon)

While shopping, I came across a great piece of driftwood decor…and it had to come home with me!

Changed out the coffee table vignette to a Coastal Summer look.

I felt that this driftwood basket would go great with the driftwood piece on the fireplace hearth.

Here it is in the beautiful shop that I purchased it from…(Summerhouse, Greensboro, NC)

…..I think that is Tom Hanks in the picture…he approves of the basket too!

I filled the basket with antique glass fishing net floats…

…..My mom brought them back for me from her trip to Alaska…

……….they were carefully packed in her carry on luggage. 🙂

My mom said that they were Japanese…and very old.

Just love the texture of driftwood…

Hoping the piece of driftwood my hubby found (actually almost tripped over) will age to this patina.

I gathered some coastal items that I had in my bathroom that I purchased from Pottery Barn.

Thought that these would be a great compliment to the driftwood basket.

Added this container of succulents for a natural texture…bought these beauties at Trader Joe’s.

I love Coastal Living Magazine…this is the January/February 2005 issue….

…..I kept this issue to show to my builder…

……….as I loved the “pineapple motif” cut into the railing on that porch.

He said, “yep, I can do that, but it’s gonna cost ya”!!

Needless to say, I did not get that railing….maybe someday.

Did you notice that gorgeous weathered chest?!!

This porch is part of a gorgeous home in Key West..on the water.

So that’s my Summer Coastal Vignette…hope you enjoyed it!

Have a beautiful day!!

  1. This vignette is lovely, Shirley. Love the fishing net floats your mom brought back from Alaska. They are perfect in that driftwood bowl. The colors on the table are so light and summery. I never think to read Coastal Living, maybe because we don’t live the near the beach. Can’t wait to hear about the Blogger trip.

  4. I can smell the salty sea air! What a pretty set up, Shirley! It’s VERY coastal, and I love the way you used those antique fishing net floats to amp it up!!! When I first looked at that one picture, I wondered if perhaps you were friends with the Hanks family since there was a picture of Tom and his son, Colin!!! 🙂 I actually think your display is prettier than the one in the shop! Just add Tom Hanks, and you’ve hit yourself a total homerun! 🙂

Don’t worry…you’ll get your pineapple railing. I think you’ll lobby for it with ease!

  19. Hi Shirley~ Love your driftwood basket filled with Japanese fishing floats! I would love to have some old ones, I have some from PB 🙂 The pineapple motif looks so cheery in the railing, we saw several versions on our trip to Key West. You could compromise and have a contractor or talented wood worker make you a simple wooden pineapple gate 🙂
