A Room That “Laundry is a Pleasure” {Vintage Laundry Room}

My philosophy is that a room that’s designated for “daily chores” . . .

~ ~ should be happy and and a pleasure to be in . .

~ ~ ~ ~ well maybe, most of the time.

Laundry Room

Loved ones with dirty clothes!

When we relocated many years ago from Florida to NC . .

~ ~ I did not sell my vintage laundry items . . .

~ ~ ~ ~ knowing I wanted to keep a vintage look in my new laundry room.

Vintage laundry items corralled in an Ikea hanging basket . .

~ ~ items gained from a friend and gift from my sister.

Now moving to the other side . .

Laundry Room

A top was made so that I would have a space for folding clothes . .

~ ~ and most importantly, have a space to house my “pretties”

This blue and white 1971 plate with a laundry theme was a great find!

I purchased this print when I was in Charleston not too long ago. .

~ ~ It reminded me so much of my mom hanging clothes on the clothesline . .

~ ~ ~ ~ always wearing a “house dress”

Laundry Room

And I hope that I will never have to revert to using these!!!

Thanks so much for visiting the room where I spend lots of time in . .

Gotta go and do another load of laundry, as “loved ones are nearby” ! !

Have a great day!!

  1. I agree, I think a room you spend time in doing chores should be a nice looking room. You’ve done a lovely job with your laundry room, Shirley! Love the wall color and that you have a window in here. Having our laundry area on the side of the condo with no windows makes me think of how light and bright our laundry room was in our old house.

  2. When I saw your laundry room in person I thought how nice. I wouldn’t mind doing this awful chore in that room. Love all the vintage pieces and the dirty socks jar is too cute. Everyone’s washer or dryer eats socks. I wish someone would solve this mystery,

BTW, first photo is not showing.

  5. You have a wonderful laundry room, Shirley. It looks to be about the same size as the one I had at the farm. The room here is a sort of glorified closet with a small window. Still…I gussied it up. Makes doing a chore so much more pleasant.:-)

  8. What a great looking laundry room. My own is about due for a re-do. It was basically painted when I first moved in and has been like that since. A clock on the wall and a mini-TV and that’s been it. You are certainly inspiring me to get at it once I get back home. xo Diana

  10. I love, LOVE your laundry room, Shirley!!!! I would give anything for a laundry ROOM as opposed to a laundry closet that I now have:( WE are going to replace the door as it opens IN!!! UGH! I love all your vintage items and will have to be on the lookout for some cute things to make my “closet” cuter:) I used ti hang my wash and wish I still could, I LOVE the smell…. We are leaving Joe’s brothers tomorrow morning to go stay one night with friends then go to our sons! The car will be at least another week from Monday til it is fixed:(:(

  21. You’re so lucky to have such a nice laundry room! My current home has more of a laundry walk in closet. It’s strictly functional and nothing to brag about. I have big plans for my next laundry room, since I’ve never had a nice one before. I like how you’ve decorated yours with vintage items. But my favorite thing? That big beautiful oval window!

  22. If we have to do laundry, it might as well be in a pretty space like this!

I love the big jar for the socks. I wish someone would figure out already where those suckers end up!

  26. As much as I love, swoon and adore this laundry room…..which I do. If I had one as gorgeous I would lose my excuse as to why I hate doing laundry….LOL Of course I hate almost anything that takes me away from puttering around the house decorating.

It is a great space and I love the lost sock jar, that’s adorable.

You have the most wonderful laundry room. I would love to have an area to go to if my laundry area looked like yours. I just haul my laundry to the basement and believe me it’s in no shape or form pretty! I love the jar with the lost socks, I thought my washer was the only one that ate the socks.

  28. TOTALLY the way to go! If you gotta do laundry, you may as well do it in style! I have a mere “laundry closet.” Even so, I do what I can to make it nice-looking. Wish I had lots of wall space to do fun stuff like you have done!!!

Love all the vintage stuff, especially the clothespins. I remember our laundry lady with those with the “heads” on them clipped to her apron. Nice memory. I miss Miss Fowler.

    Spectacular laundry room, Shirley!!!

  32. Adorable… Wish mine looked half as neat…

  33. Hi Shirley! Oh, what a lovely laundry room. I too love all of those sweet little vintage things. I believe my mother had a sprinkling lady like yours! I wish I had it today. Now, I wish I could just copy and paste your entire home, it’s the prettiest and my favorite in the entire land of blog.
