I would like to wish you all a most wonderful Memorial Day . . .
Some of us will be traveling . . . and some of us will be enjoying the long weekend at home.
As for me, I will be enjoying the weekend at home . .
I will be very busy working on a large project. .
~ ~ and enjoying a visit from my sister and family from Florida.
And also preparing for another round of company on Monday!
But most of all . . .
~ ~ I will be honoring and reflecting on the ones who served our country . . .
I must, at this time, give another shout out to my sister Betty Ann.
She was chosen to escort a 94 year old World War II Vet to Washington D.C. today. . .
~ ~ to the World War II Veterans Memorial…
It is under the program called “Honor Flight” . . .
She is so very honored to escort this wonderful 94 year old Veteran of the Navy.
Again, I am proud of her.
Betty is also honored to be a part of this program to honor our father . . .
~ ~ A world War II (and Korean War) Veteran of the Army.
We miss him every day. . . he was a man of courage and integrity.
I encourage you all to look up the program, “Honor Flight”
It is an extremely wonderful program and deserves attention and our generosity.
May you all have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day Weekend . .
~ ~ honoring the brave men who served our country.

Hi Shirley, what a wonderful thing your sister is doing! Our best friend’s father went on the Honor Flight a few years ago, and Leo and his friend met him at the airport when the group arrived back home. Leo was so moved by the whole experience. Leo’s father was a WWII veteran as well and my father served at the Panama Canal before that. So we’ll join you is honoring our veterans. Enjoy your weekend with your company!
So proud of your sister too….and what an honor! Our son will be home so we will have a small family gathering, but we may pick up a few others for our cookout. 🙂
You and I have like minds, as I put flags in my front porch urns too.
Sheila
What a wonderful opportunity your sister has been given…..I know you must be very proud of her?!?!?! Have a great weekend!!!

My father is going on the Honor Flight in June, he is a WWII vet. My brother is going to be his “guardian” and they both are so excited and my sis and & I are so excited for them. My dad’s goal is to be the oldest living vet for WWII . What a goal. Always love to see your house & decor. I aspire to that in my house.
Your home is lovely and so patriotic! I love your tablescape and the vintage picnic tin! Congratulations to your sister! She will never forget this. What a fabulous honor! I can’t wait to see your new project! Happy Memorial Day!

Shirley, I have just recently learned about the Honor Flight program. I live near Savannah and some veterans from there were flown up last week. Their response was on TV and I found it heartwarming. I am so appreciative of this program especially now with the bad news coming out of the VA administration hospitals. Your sister is somebody special indeed!
Your home looks so beautiful! Thanx for the pivtures.
Here, Here! I’m sure Betty Ann considers this an honor to escort a member of The Greatest Generation to the Memorial. Our family will be remembering so many who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, including my uncle. And we will honor my father, uncles and cousins who all served our country and helped to preserve our freedom.
We promote the Honor Flight program through our church meetings of the Older Adults, and I believe most of our WWII veterans have all had this opportunity to go. And they are so grateful when they return. It’s a marvelous program and please thank your sister for paying her way to be an escort, that is wonderful. Vicki in Louisville KY
A lovely post, Shirley. What a great honor for your sister….I know she must be thrilled! Bless your father for his service and bless you! Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy friends and family.~~Angela
I can’t believe Mel forgot to tell me this wonderful story about BettyAnn. Wow, what a great honor, and she’s perfect for the job. I know it was an inspirational experience for her. Your house looks so pretty with fantastic American displays everywhere. Have a great weekend. Love to you and Tommy.
What an amazing program to honor those who’ve fought for our freedom! I know that Memorial Day must be bittersweet for you but I hope that you have a wonderful time full of old memories and new ones. 🙂
There are getting to be fewer and fewer WW II veterans, so it is, indeed, an honor for your sister to be an escort for this veteran. It sounds like you have good times ahead with family and friends, and I know you will make their visits special. Enjoy!
Shirley, how wonderful for your sister! That is truly an honor! Your patriotic decor is just perfect. You have really outdone yourself! You have a full weekend ahead of you. Hoping you enjoy this Memorial Day weekend!
My Dad was Navy on a destroyer escort in WWII and Tom’s Dad was Army Air Force pilot in WWII. Neither lived long enough to be on an Honor Flight, but we remember them and all the fallen and living heroes.
Shirley, that does sound like a wonderful program! Have a blessed Memorial Day!
Susan
