Happy Monday everyone! . . . Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
Mine was filled with lots of tasks, including preparing for a dinner party . . .
~ ~ my annual turn with the Dinner Group of wonderful friends.
I set a simple table this time . . .
~ ~ no place cards . . . no little “cutesy” things that I usually do . . . I went Simple.
My dining room is a casual room . . .
~ ~ that is located just off the kitchen and at the back side of the house . . .
Rather than the typical formal dining room located in the front of a home.
I am seeing more of this “casual dining space” in new home plans.
We feel as if we are in a “tree house” when sitting in this room . . .
~ ~ as it is a second story view.
The centerpieces are basil plants with daisies added in pretty terra cotta pots.
~ ~ I used the floral aquapics to secure the daisies in the plant.
These centerpieces were given to my guests as “parting gifts”
It makes up for my lack of gourmet cooking skills!!!…:)
Actually, no . . . I love to give my guests a momento of the evening . . .
~ ~ and I typically design my centerpieces as the parting gifts!…Two purposes in one!!
And now to the chair makeover . . . A chair that my niece wanted for her daughter’s room.
My niece is re-locating to the Denver area . . .
~ ~ so after this chair has been sitting in her garage for years . .
~ ~ she wanted to have it recovered before she left.
Ta da!! . . . We decided to eliminate the tufting. . .
~ ~ and paint the legs for a more updated look.
Here it is in a corner of Linda’s beautiful dining room . . yes, she also does upholstery!!
So that was a snipit of my weekend…hope you all had a great one too!
Have a wonderful day and hope it is filled with great sunshine!

Your dining room is lovely…simply elegant! Don’t you just love living in the trees? 😉
I love your casual table design. Just perfect for family or for guests. I tend to stay with simple when I do tables. easy and Pretty! I always love your ideas. Sheila

The table looked lovely.. I think I recognize those dishes.. Lenox Butler’s Pantry correct? I have them as well and I love them. I love the pillow on the chair and the flower. Did Linda make that as well? Great job!
I think formal dining rooms are a thing of the past in most families. We have one that is used 3 times a year, at most. Pretty much wasted space. We also have a breakfast room table and a kitchen counter. Just too many options for 2 people. Your simple table is perfect for a summer dinner party. Wish it was set for 2 more…that would be Jeff and I!
Shirley, your tablescape is so pretty and inviting! I love the pots of flowers throughout your table. I love the chair Linda recovered! Wow, it’s gorgeous!
So I’m going to pat myself on the back and pretend that you posted this beautiful tablescape because I pestered you about it a couple of weeks ago! 🙂 You’ve just given me a great idea for great guest favors. Basil or some other herb that they’re going to use anyway makes perfect sense!
You’re right about the more casual dining room going into new construction. It’s the wave of the future. People are drifting further and further away from the very formal. I’m versatile. Even though we have a separate dining room, I’m sure I’d be just as happy with something that was more integrated. I have, in fact, rallied to have walls torn down. Vetoed every time!
What a transformation on the chair! Wow! I never would have thought that something in such a rundown condition could be transformed like that! Maybe I should rethink some of the furniture around here instead of just campaigning to get rid of it altogether.
Thank you for posting a tablescape, Shirley! I knew all along you would do a slam dunker! 🙂

Wow such a perfect hostess gift, I am going to remember that one and your table is beautiful!
Your chair makeover turned out great, I am nervous about trying to do upholstery. Unless of course I get the chair for garage sale prices then I won’t be so afraid to mess it up….lol
