Do you ever yell, “S T O P” , while driving with your hubby . . .
~ ~ when you see an antique shop or a “sale along the road” ?
I do, and I must curb my enthusiasm, as I many times cause him to panic.
While driving through some back roads in Virginia . . .
~ ~ we came across an antique shop and an outdoor sale in front of the shop.
I thought I had taken a picture of this desk when we unloaded it a while back . . .
~ ~ but apparently I did not . . . so “bad blogger protocol” set in with no “before picture”
The drawer fronts are veneer and had some wear on them . . .
~ ~ the top was actually fine, if it were sanded and re-stained.
So I thought with this “paint configuration” I would go with the painted top and drawers.
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.
When we got this desk home, I discovered that it was made by Thomasville Chair Company . . .
~ ~ later, Thomasville Furniture Company – Thomasville, North Carolina.
The desk had wood casters that were in perfect condition.
I love the detail of this desk, especially the fluting and shape of the legs.
I guess I could have painted the entire desk, but loved the beauty of the stained wood.
It rained most of the day . . . and while there was a break in the rain . . .
~ ~ we quickly brought the desk out to the driveway to take pictures before it went off to the booth.
I can also see this being a pretty vanity with a mirror hung above it.
I am hoping this desk will be going to a great home, as it deserves lots of love!
Have a great day . . . as it is a wonderful day . . . because it is the day my sister was born!
Happy Birthday Betty Ann!!!! . . . Love you sis!

It’s beautiful Shirley! When we were in Brentwood TN a few years ago, I saw a beautiful maple twin bedroom set with one side table and a chest of drawers. It’s about a six hour drive from home. After we got back I wished we had bought it, rented a truck to bring it home. Missed opportunity. I am willing to bet it was Ethan Allen. When I lived in TN during the early/mid 60’s, I had maple bedroom furniture. One of my girls is still using some of it. Maple early American style was all the rage around about that time.
I do say STOP!!! or Back up!!!, often while traveling back roads.LOL

That’s a pretty antique desk. I have a similar piece like that in my son’s room. It’s an old dresser that was given to us from my inlaws. It has little casters on the bottom too. Funny how a lot of old furniture had wheels on everything! I wonder why. That will make a nice addition to your booth.
What a pretty make over Shirley! I love the combination of the wood and paint! I bet it sells quickly 🙂

Good job! You have such a good eye for detail. Have a great week!
You scored! I love how you kept some of the original detailing of the gorgeous wood, but updated it to reflect today’s taste and decor. I’m sure it will go to a good home quickly!
What a beautiful desk and the detail is great. Your choice on refinishing is perfect. I also hope that this desk finds a nice new home. Don’t you love the back roads of Virginia. I plan on going home in September, if everything goes well and can hardly wait to hit the back roads and se where they take me.
Have a great week.

Beautiful desk, Shirley! I’d love to find something like this for me to use in our home office. Right now I use an old vanity table, but I could certainly use the drawer space. I think my hubby would kill me if I yelled out, “Stop” when he is driving. He already gets annoyed when I act like there are brakes on the passenger side when he is driving. : )

What a beautiful piece, Shirley! You should have no problem selling this, at all! I love all of the pretty details. I laughed out loud, having a visual of your hubby hitting the brakes, at your command! That could really freak a person out! Lol!

When I spy a shop worthy of a stop, I swear the hubby speeds up! He’s just not into browsing through what he thinks is a lit of junk so there’s no telling what treasures I’ve missed. Suite a transformation on the one you found.
