Adding Architectural Elements to the Dining Room

I had a space on each side of the bay window area in my dining room that needed “attention”.

~ ~ wanting something different to hang in that space.

The narrow space logically would lend to hanging decorative plates.

However, there are many plates in my hutch and hanging more would just be too much.

Me, being me, wanted something different . . . something “architectural”.

Then these came into my life . . . delivered to my front door from the State of Virginia.

The perfect solution . . . and as you will see . . . the perfect height!

DSC_7273

The colors in the many layers of paint were perfect.

Thanks to hubby for taking time out of his busy schedule to sand them for me!. . . .

~ ~ and hang them too!

You will notice the reflections of light on the wall from my Swarovski crystals in the window.

Note to self: Take the crystals down when photographing! πŸ™‚

I am so very happy with the new look in the room.

I am such a fan of adding architectural elements to enhance a space . . .

~ ~ whether it be new construction or vintage pieces such as these shutters.

DSC_7256

As I gaze at the shutters . . . I think . . . hmmm . . . should I place something on the shutters?

I think my hubby was reading my mind as I stared at them . . .

~ ~ he gave me that look with a smile . . . I think that smile said . . Leave them alone!!!

Would you?….

Have a great day . . . I am off to the High Point Market with Kim.

I am joining:

They look great, Shirley, and are the perfect addition to your dining room. I vote for leaving them alone and not adding anything. Have fun at market! Wish I could join y’all there.

Can you believe they FIT there? Wow- Those are perfect-just “rough” enough to be interesting and add a bit of “ageless” to that area. I don’t know if I would hang anything from them. If I did it would probably be just a rustic “handle” of some kind on that center bar…one with a drop bail that hung down. Whatever you do-they are GREAT! xo Diana

Great idea! I am leaning toward leaving the shutters as they are, but if you decide to put something on them I am sure that they will be lovely. We are kindred spirits….yellow walls and white trim work!!! I had the same colors in our Georgian! And now I have them in our downsized house. Love everything that you do in your house!

The doors do, indeed, fit the space perfectly making them a very lucky find. I am always drawn to old doors and windows being used for decorative purposes.

Love ’em……yea, leave ’em alone for awhile; and then when the moment arises for color, ah, go ahead and embellish……….then when that moment arises again, take away and go naturale, after all, thats whats decorating all about…have a happy…

Love them, Shirley! I would have liked to find something like these when I was looking for the shutters I just got for our dining room. However, after thinking on what I wanted for a good year, I just didn’t want to wait and just got what I found in the size that would work. It would be great if one day I come across a nicer set, like yours, but for now I’m painting these up and will live with them.
