How To Organize Your Garage by a Master Organizer

Master organizer, yes, that’s him . . . my hubby.

Someone who is precise in every way.

He even folds his clothes before putting them in the hamper.

He states that folding them keeps the hamper neat and you can put more clothes in it that way.

Me organize? . . . no need to as I have a resident organizer.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

I cannot say you can eat off his garage floors, but close.

I have featured him before, but since this is the month of all things organized, I thought

I would show you again, in a bit of a different format, the post with the all time most visits!!

Wood garage doors-Housepitality Designs

You will see his work, behind these garage doors made of wood.

They are pretty, but I can tell you that they require a lot of maintenance.

Fairmont Hotel-Banff, Canada

Meet my resident master organizer. He said that when he retires from the

business world (which is not anytime soon) he would love to organize garages. Really!!!

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

A place for everything and everything in its place,

including his eyeglasses on a hook.

I did not know he had done this until I went looking for something

and had to laugh!…seriously!

Garage organization-Housepitality Designs

He used cabinets by Sears and some garage systems by Gladiator.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

People wonder if he places things spaced equally between each other.

I can tell you that his tape measure is always at close hand.

He also has lots of drawers that are a part of the Sears garage organizing system.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Of course most of them are labeled . . . He loves his label maker!

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

And what do you know . . . . there ARE brushes in the drawer all neatly placed.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Talk about neatly placed, everything is neatly placed in its designated place.

I have learned to give him back things that I use from these cabinets,

as I do not want to place them an inch or so out of place. 🙂

A great excuse to not to have to put it away!!!

Garage organization-Housepitality Designs

Our garage is a two-car garage, but the space is actually a 3-car space.

Garage organization-Housepitality Designs

He has a space set up in the corner of the garage for his exercise equipment.

Garage organization-exercise area-Housepitality Designs

He exercises every morning at 5 a.m. ….

Yes, 5 a.m. He is a very structured kind of guy.

Can you tell???

Garage organization-Housepitality Designs

Baskets and hooks to hold small exercise items . . .

a white board to plan out his exercise routine

and a cork board to display exercise aids

and sometimes quotes of encouragement can be seen there.

Garage organization-Housepitality Designs

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Across from the exercise corner is his treadmill that will do anything but wipe his forehead!

And of course there is a TV that is most likely locked on ESPN.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Hanging on the wall in front of the treadmill

and above a mud-room bench are more pieces of exercise equipment.

The only exercise equipment that I use is the weighed hoola-hoop.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

My little bench for a mud room I do not have

surrounded by stepping blocks and more weights!

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

You may have noticed there is a large metal shelf next to the treadmill.

It houses many bins and sets of drawers and it is here that there is something that was MY idea! 🙂

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

I bought several sliding trash bin holders from Ikea as they are pretty deep in size.

Perfect for holding things such as bottled water and other drinks.

I have one under my kitchen sink to hold household cleaners.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Actually the treadmill sits beside a group of shelving in an L-pattern . . .

and this is the other side of the “L” . A wall of pegboard.

Garage organization-Housepitality Designs

And what is around the corner and on the other side of this wall of pegboard???

Garage organization-Housepitality Designs

Does this give you a hint?

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

He retro fitted a metal shelving unit into a space to hang his sports related clothing.

This is my favorite idea that he has come up with.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

His hats and ball uniform belts lined up and he knows what order they are in!!!

To the right is a door that leads into another small room . . . the mechanical room.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

On the other side of the garage houses our bikes.

Only 2 people in this household and there are 4 bikes . . . 3 for him . . . one for me.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

This side of the garage has lots of pegboard for hanging garden tools,

baseball equipment like this pitch back

and there is also room for a swing away . . . for batting practice.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

I spy a snow shovel on the wall . . . hope we do not need it any time soon!

You may also notice that every window (and there are 7 in this garage)

are beautifully framed out.

We both believe that your work spaces should be just as nice as your living spaces.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

He certainly packs a lot of stuff into this space without it feeling cluttered.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Utilizing every inch of the garage like this area between the garage doors

that houses car washing supplies.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Even the space above the garage doors have shelves that hold coolers and such . . .

and on the other door, the big ladder is hung.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Yes, a place for everything, and everything in its place . . .

like the scissors hung next to the outlet for the speakers in the garage . . .

yes, speakers that are a part of the whole house

audio system. . . T.V……music, a must have in a garage! Or should I say his garage!

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

A garage that has a trio of ceiling fans . . . I call the wind farm!

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

A garage that every inch is utilized to its fullest . . . and all things neatly tucked away

like this trash can.

Garage Organization-Housepitality Designs

Even though I may sometimes give my hubby a hard time about his “neatness”,

I am so blessed that he is that way.

And honey, I promise to dust the top of the water heater . . .

but you have to get the ladder down for me!!!

So how is your garage looking these days? . . . is your hubby a super organized person too?

Or maybe your hubby is not as organized, but knows where everything is!!!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. Well, since I have seen it in person I think you probably can eat off the floor. Wow, he folds his clothes before they go into the hamper? Around here it would be what hamper? Ask him what he will charge for his garage organization skills. We certainly need his help here. 🙂

  3. Wow this is so impressive I will have to show my husband. I love there is even a place for his eyeglasses. Now I have garage envy.

  4. I am forwarding this to Joe. Our garage is a disaster, but in his defense it is VERY small and there really is not room for much at all. The thing that I noticed is that every shelf, piece of equipment etc. is also CLEAN and dust free. I don’t know how he does that! If he ever DOES retire and wants to organize garages we will hire him!!!!!!!!!!! I would LOVE for our garage to look anything like this!!! You ARE blessed. Joe is organized and HE knows where things are……

  5. I wish our garage was that neat and organized. I remember seeing your garage for the first time last year or the year before I think. I was amazed and still am! I do think your husband could do that for a living or hobby after he retires. He has a real knack for it. I’m so impressed with how he used so much of the space in the garage (such as over the garage door) too. You must never come over to my house and see ours now. I would be too embarrassed.

  6. I am so impressed….and I would be glad to let your hubby organize our garage. And his idea for a retirement job…garage organizing business! Perfect! I do not have a fastidious hubby…but have learned to compensate. Ha!

  7. Wow, I have never seen such a neat and tidy garage in all my life!!!! We could definetely use his help around here….organization doesn’t seem to be our strong point. To be honest I would be thrilled if my husband would just quit leaving his clothes on the floor. That will proably never happen though…..

  9. Wow! Now that is an organized garage. I am embarrassed at my own garage right now. Because it is so cold I’ve just been throwing stuff out there without putting anything away so I have a nice project waiting for me as soon as it gets a little warmer!

  10. I remember last year’s post and I showed it to my hubby. I will show this to him for a reminder! He has a work shop in the house for his electronics that he keeps rather neat but our garage is a sorry sight most of the time. That is wonderful that he would like to organize garages for something to do after he retires. I think it’s pretty cool how he managed to work in his exercise equipment into such a small footprint! He’s definitely an engineer!

  12. Your garage is beyond organized! Amazing! I thought ours was okay (I’m the one who does it) but after seeing this, ours is a mess! My husband has many wonderful qualities, organization is not one of them! Folded? I’m luck if clothes land IN the hamper!! LOL

  13. Okay Shirley I am astonished and sure that every single one of your friends wants to borrow you hubby for some organizing ( or tell their husband about him!)Wow!

  14. Only in my dreams would our garage, if we had one, look like this! My husband does have a barn (where he does his wood working) and his office (for his surveying business) but right now I could sign both of them up to be on Hoarders. Don’t tell him I said that! I have to admit, he is beginning to show signs of progress! He has at least bought some trash bags to start filling up!

  26. Both my b-i-l’s garages are like this…ours not so much. We tease the Hubs about being Pa Kettle. The Hubs tends to be more like a drop and go kinda guy. Ugh! Then blames it on me, because I hand him too much stuff to be put up in the garage.

  27. Please send him on over!! I have the challenge of a lifetime in my garage. Geez, there isn’t even any dust in the cabinets. Impressive!

  28. Shirley, Your hubby would have an an aneurysm if he saw our garage! When he retires and needs a difficult project to tackle we’ll be his first customers 🙂

Shirley, I think the garage is as much of a masterpiece as your beautiful home! I think you could eat off the floor in there, as I have never seen a garage that is so spot less. Your dear Hubby is welcome to come help us organize our garage and the basement any time he’s like. What a blessing he is!

  30. Holy Household Organization! Please send your husband to us ASAP! We had a garage sale several years ago and got rid of everything, it was heaven…then my son moved a bunch of furniture in…then my MIL passed away and now we have all her stuff…it’s a nightmare! Plus my hubs stockpiles paper goods, it’s like Costco down there, 3000 square feet of chaos!! I bet your husband could start a booming business, he sure is full of ideas, great ideas!! I will say my husband is very neat inside the house and is the main housekeeper and dishwasher, but I am pretty sure everyone that reads this will be green with organizing envy!

  32. If I could only get Ramon to get even somewhere CLOSE to this, I would do a little dance in the street! Your husband has got it goin’ on!!!! Our garage is such a mess, and it’s an embarrassment for me every time the doors opens to expose our dirty little secret. Ramon is NOT the most organized person in this world, though, and it is pretty much his space, so I have to just keep quiet. I do wish, however, he wouldn’t mess with my area which is basically gardening stuff and Christmas outdoor stuff. I’ll need to figure out how to creatively keep him off limits!!!

This is magnificent! KUDOS on having THE most organized husband in possibly the entire world! Have a wonderful weekend!!!

  36. Your hubby and I would get along just great. I too love to have, ‘everything in it’s place.’ I even wrote a couple of books about home organization, lol. However, my hubby is nothing like your hubby. I would dearly love to get my hands on his garage, but you know … it’s his space. My hubby has many wonderful qualities, but garage organization isn’t one of them. Maybe when your hubby retires and starts his garage tidying business, he can come whip our garage into shape. (I know I would love that!)

  37. Wow. Your garage doors are beautiful. They look like carriage doors. Also, I would LOVE to have a garage like yours one day. It’s simply beautiful. A place for everything must help.

  38. I wish my garage was half as organised as yours! I love your garage doors, looks so much better than one single but larger door dominating the front of your home

  39. I love when everything is perfectly arranged in the garage and it doesn’t look like a mess. Keeping it simple is always the best way to go!

  40. This is some really good information about how to organize a garage. I will definitely steal some tips! What’s more, I think it is really important to start by cleaning out the garage.
