Keeping It In The Family

You know how it is.

There is always something special “that’s in the family” . . .

that someone has decided to let go with a slight bit of hesitation.

Vintage Bowls/Marmalade Jar-Housepitality Designs

When they finally decide that it is time

to finally let go and they know that you would treasure them as much as they did.

The items that were so loved move on to someone who will love them too.

You can see why it would be hard to let this very old, well used bowl go.

With its pretty design and great patina.

Meet the bowl’s sister . . . this one is also part of the family.

Can you see the resemblance? The aged patina is definitely a family trait.

Now you know how siblings are . . . they want to stay together.

So I came up with a plan. I placed a riser in the large bowl

and placed the smaller bowl on the riser to get a tiered effect.

An  English Ivy placed in the bowl

for a beautiful presentation/pedestal for the ivy.

Dundee Marmalade Jar-Housepitality Designs

A distant cousin, the Dundee Marmalade jar with vintage silver ladles,

joins the family vignette.

Another very distant cousin from France came in for the family reunion.

They tell me that it is a very beautiful reunion and they may just stay and visit for a long while.

Do you have things that you prefer to keep in the family?

Have a great day!!

  19. Love this Shirley, The tiered bowls are an incredible idea. I actually have the larger bowl or at least very similar. It was my grandmothers and has the same patina. She served homemade pasta in this for large family gatherings. It is very old from the 1920’s.
    Love the marmalade jar too.
    Great inspiration!
