Housepitality Designs

it's all about the hospitable home

Mixing Classic and Trendy Styles

I am a bit fickle when it comes to design.

What can I say, I love it all and try not to blend too many different looks and styles

to confuse my interiors.

I am truly a classic kind of gal. Give me a great strand of pearls

as opposed to sparkly beads and bangles . . . but then again I will take the sparkly diamonds any day!

To keep my interiors fresh, I like to mix the trends with the classic.

Great Room-Housepitality Designs

These pillows were on the sofa as a backdrop for the toile pillows.

I love this Robert Allen fabric, its Ikat pattern and colors.

Great Room-Housepitality Designs

I thought I would use these pillows for a focal point in the room

to give it a breath of fresh air for late Spring.

Great Room-Housepitality Designs

I saw these pillows in a showroom/storefront that were being shipped to Joss and Main.

The owner had enough yardage leftover to make me a pair of these pillows.

I decided to change out the hearth a bit too.

A basket and demijohn for for added texture and an ivy for that live, natural element.

The plant stand is on one of the porches waiting to be included in a bit of a makeover.

Love how the pillows and the colors in them freshened up the space. In my opinion, a touch of trend in design and/or fashion keep classic from getting boring.

So pretty, Shirley, and I love how those pillows look against the chairs. It’s a simple and inexpensive way to change up the look, too, without buying new ones. Just move them from one room to another!

You have such a beautiful home Shirley:) I always have a really hard time decorating because I do like too many styles. After that realization finally hit me, I now force myself to answer the question: “will you like this for a long time, or is this just cutesy? I love to look at your home to keep me on track:) thanks for sharing!

That pillow fabric is indeed gorgeous, and I noticed the pinkish red of the chair matches it perfectly. That’s not easy to do, since those are blended colors. I know you’ve shown it before, but like your bedroom ceiling, I adore that gingham chair!
