There is always a story behind a room,
whether it is how the room came together over time
or came together as a result of a visit to a furniture showroom.
This room was about the showroom and a hubby that loves symmetry and “matchy matchy”
When my magazine feature was recently published in French Country Style magazine,
we both noticed something. Well at least he agreed about “that something”
We both said to each other …..”Wow, there’s a lot of wicker in the room!”
That is when he agreed that placing another piece of furniture in the room that is
not wicker would be a good thing. I had the perfect piece in mind
the piece I have been wanting to place in that room for a while.
I replaced the wicker glass topped coffee table with this antique blanket chest
that was in the guest room, a piece that I have had for well over 30 years.
You can read about some interesting things about the chest here.
The fun part about changing or adding a piece in a room
is that you get to create new vignettes and tweak what is in the room.
I added a new piece that I purchased on my field trip to Pennsylvania
with Yvonne last week.
When I picked up this food mold I looked at the price and thought, well O.K. that’s fine,
then Yvonne pointed to the sale sign hanging in the booth . . . all items 40% off . . woo hoo!
More things moved around to create more of a Spring look to the room.
A cute bird planter from HomeGoods perfect for holding my Shirley Poppy Seeds.
There is always a nice reflection in the mirror.
This reflection is of one of the corners of the room.
A reflection of an iron gate and toleware and a treasured vintage red bird cage.
The potting bench displays vintage watering cans and flowers to celebrate Spring.
And a great book of “American Junk”
I really love the antique blanket chest in this room.
It has truly changed the feel somewhat and added another bit of color and warmth to the room.
As a very wise person mentioned, the chest truly anchors the room.
So I say a big “Ahoy” to that!!!
Have a wonderful day and a great start to your week.
You know of course since that blanket chest was transferred to the sunroom from the guest room,
there is a lot of domino effect going on in this house.
Stay tuned!

I love the chest there and so glad he is on board with it. That is exactly what I’m looking for for my sun room. An old chest with a chippy finish.

The blanket chest looks wonderful in the sunroom. I loved seeing your pretty sun room, then I looked up and saw tons of boxes and furniture thrown into my new house all willy nilly. I am a lot of work to do!

You got your ironstone food mold 😉 Caution: addictive! I like the blanket chest in the sunroom, and the fact that the reddish tone of the wood is complemented with other smalls in there. I picked up the RC French magazine and really enjoyed your feature. The whole issue was an especially good one, I thought. Have a wonderful week, Shirley.

Hi Shirley! Oh, I love the chest as your coffee table! I’m still so proud of you getting the wonderful feature and you so deserve it. It’s been said before, but your home is one of the loveliest in blogland and your decorate everything so beautifully! I adore your sunroom and I’m still contemplating painting my wicker furniture a moss green like yours. When I first saw the color your wicker was, I swooned! 😉
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉

I love the change Shirley. The blanket chest is a wonderful addition. I like to take pictures as one of my room transformations is happening. It is interesting seeing something through a photo that you don’t always see otherwise.

Good move, Tom and Shirley. I always am drawn to the less matchy more collected over time look.
I finally found the magazine that your home is featured in. Your home looks amazing in it! I like the wicker coffee table though. The chest is a nice accent piece too. I used to have a wooden trunk for a coffee table years ago. They’re so versatile.
I love it! I have a VERY old, like 100 years old old, chest in my guest room!! I have it covered though cause I thought it was too beat up to look nice. Now I have second thoughts. I THINK it was my Grandmothers hope chest!!!!!! I remember it from my childhood and we lived with my Grandmother. I love your sunroom and agree that replacing the wicker coffee table was the perfect idea. Just when I think your house can’t get any better it DOES!!!!

I really like the new coffee table. You are right it does anchor the room. The sunroom is such a relaxing place to be in. I love a room that has a lot of light. Sounds like you found some treasures on your trip to PA.
Have a great week Shirley and looking forward to your furniture shuffle.

Well, it was beautiful before, but I really do love the chest in there now! Looks gorgeous, as always, and so inviting!

You know, the great thing about wicker and rattan…you can use it as a set, as you have done…or you can break the set apart, and use it all over the house. It’s really the best of both worlds. I like the blanket chest there…breaks it up a bit! Enjoy your day! ;);)
Shirley,
Great move! The blanket chest looks amazing in the sunroom and it does anchor the room. While wicker is always beautiful in a sunroom, switching out the wicker coffee table for the blanket chest adds some contrast.
I often run into a difficult time balancing my rooms when I change things out for summer. While I want a summery, airy look and like adding a few pieces of coastal décor such as coral, I don’t want a too “beachy” look. It can be a fine line at times between summery and beachy.
Also congratulations on being featured in French Country magazine. I need to pick up a copy!
Chests with so much character add a lot of charm and interest when used as a coffee table. Love the look…the whole room is such a warm and inviting and happy place to relax!!

That blanket trunk looks gorgeous! Makes a charming coffee table, Shirley. Love it!! And you know I luvvvvvv your ironstone jelly mold. During the Victorian period, the Victorians would make aspic / jelly concoctions to garnish their meats. Happy Monday – xoxo
Shirley, I love the blanket chest in your sunroom as it adds such a nice contrast and looks so pretty with the green wicker! It’s hard to tell in the picture but it seems to give you a little more room. So glad hubby liked the new look! Have a wonderful week!
Hi Shirley, love the chest in your sunroom too. It adds so much charm and character.
Just got my FC magazine and loved your feature along with Penny’s. So excited for you!

Love the wood touch in the sunroom, Shirley, but I just got the magazine, and flipping through it to make sure I got the right one, I didn’t even give your wicker furniture a thought as being “too much”. It suits the room and goes really well with your curtains, too. This is my most favorite sunroom ever! : )
Nosy note: I love that little bunny on your side table. Any chance that came from a store I might find it in?

What a lovely room Shirley. While I haven’t seen this room before with the other coffee table, but I do really love the old blanket chest there. I really like the little beehive basket, and those pretty ceramic candle sticks too:D

Isn’t it funny how viewing a room thru the lens of a camera, or in your case, a magazine page, that points things out we might never have thought about. love the chest, but I love the wicker coffeetable too! I just picked up that magazine at B&N, congrats on your feature!
