it's all about the hospitable home

Put A Lid On It

If you are like me, I am always looking for something different

to place on decorative items, such as books.

Or just looking for something out of the ordinary to use for everyday purposes.

So what do you do?

You put a lid on it!

Vintage Ironstone Lid-Housepitality Designs

I have been collecting orphaned lids in hopes that I can one day create a gallery wall with them.

In the meantime, I am using these lids throughout the house to embellish some vignettes,

OR

You can use it as a paper weight! Like I have it on my desk weighing down my coupons!

You can use a lid to corral your magazines . . .

Or you can just put a lid on it just because.

Then you have that itty bitty lid looking for the company of a familiar face

as someone is watching over him.

OR

You can put a lid in it.

So that everyone can stay together.

And live happily ever after . . . as it’s a Wonderful World!

Have a most joyous day and a great weekend!

What a lovely idea, Shirley! You have quite a collection of great lids! I love your idea of adding lids to the tureens- very clever. Your vignettes are so pretty and perfect for transitioning into Summer! So sorry I haven’t been able to visit as much as I would like to. My eye had a a reaction to the name brand eye drop after surgery and I have lost my vision in that eye until it heals.

so fun, love your ideas for misfit lids. I do love a wall grouping of ironstone and transferware lids, they’re too pretty to not use!

    Shirley,
You have such beautiful pieces of Ironstone! I love your ideas especially using lids as paperweights. I like tucking my lids in my vignettes also.

I was somewhat disappointed today when we stopped by Antique Marketplace as it was slim pickings as far as ironstone was concerned. I did find a few other things that were on my list though including some vintage garden hand tools that I wanted for a summer vignette.

Oh I’m so glad to see you give those orphaned lids a home Shirley! I’ve seen a couple just recently and thought to myself they would look good in grouping on the wall together. Hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. ♥

This post is full of great ideas for lids, Shirley!! Yours are so pretty, and you’ve inspired me to pick them up when I see them now because usually they’re very reasonable. Love the idea of a gallery wall of orphaned lids!!! I might have to copy that idea when I have enough. You’ve just given me an idea to use one on top of napkins on the porch to keep them from flying away when it’s breezy.
