So I asked my friend, “have you ever been to Youngsville?” “No”, she replied.
It’s a beautiful evening, so why not spend it at a beautiful farm
and you get to shop as a bonus! She gladly agreed.
So off we went on a 55 mile drive through the countryside,
leaving the house at 3:30pm to secure a great place in line.
Now what could be a better view while standing in line than this:
A beautiful farm with beautiful gardens and horses galloping. Worth the drive.
Estate sales typically start on a Friday, but with Mother’s Day being Sunday,
the auction company ran the sale Thursday through Saturday.
So do you want to see some of the goodies I brought home?
I walked through the main house and picked up a few things
and then went out to the guest house to see what was there.
It was a very cute guest house filled with beautiful classic furnishings.
When I entered the living room, I found these:
A pair of chairs that I suspected were Ethan Allen Martha Washington Chairs.
I quickly turned the chairs over.
Yes !!!
My suspicions were correct . . . they indeed were Ethan Allen
and in mint condition.
I thought the price was right. The fabric is a bit dated,
however, I know I can get them reupholstered and the total price for the chair
would be about the same as purchasing a chair at HomeGoods.
I sat on these chairs for a while, thinking where can I use these?
Contemplating the want versus need scenario?
I was sitting on the chairs contemplating, contemplating . . . should I?
I then got up and walked over to another fabulous piece of furniture
and decided to buy that instead of the chairs. It was a great piece.
Stay tuned for where that piece landed.
When I got home, I told my hubby about the chairs and how much I loved them.
He asked why I did not get them . . . I truly did not have an answer.
All night, those chairs haunted me.
When I got up the next morning, I made a decision . . . I was going back.
I was hoping that they would still be there.
I was about the 4th person in line at the auction.
I asked the auctioneer if the chairs were still there . . . she smiled.
The doors opened and I made a bee line to them.
I was a happy camper.
One thing though, my hubby had a tournament and he had to use our van.
So I loaded up the convertible with the theme song of the Beverly Hillbillies in my head.
And the chairs are living happily ever after in my dining room sitting area.
One more thing:
It is truly a good thing to have a great friend along when shopping . . . not only for the great company,
but also for help in carrying your loot! 🙂 . . . and hers too!
Lots of changes went on in this house in the past few days . . . so stay tuned!
Have a great day . . . and hope you moms out there had a most wonderful Mother’s Day.

You always find the best deals. What a beautiful location for the sale. I think you were a bit classier in your car than the Beverly hillbillies were. 🙂

Love the chairs but I am an old Ethan Allen fan from way back. When I see something I like, I too will think about it.. If after cogitation I will go back & purchase it. If it is still there, I will purchase it, if not, it was not for me at that time. Our family calls it finding it’s home. Through the years, I have let a few things slip by, a red silk dress, a Foo Dog sculpture & a bright red couch.
I know now, it wasn’t for us at that time. This next time around, I will recognize that piece of art or furniture, it’s found a home with us! I know the first Mother’s Day was the hardest when I realized in Publix, a grocery store, that I would never buy another Mother’s Day card again, I wept in the grocery aisle. I know people probably wondered what was going on but I didn’t care. We as Daughter’s of Mom’s still mourn them but know they are in such a wonderful place, Heaven! It sounds like you had a great Mother’s Day!!As always, I simply adore your lovely skills & talents!!
Love the new chairs!!! They are perfect in that spot…such a great find and well worth the second trip! Can’t wait to see what else you came home with……

Great finds Shirley, the chairs and table are beautiful! I absolutely love, love, love estate sale. I go to one at least once every other week, somtimes more, I confess. They have some really good ones here in Texas. I’ve gotten some awesome gems from them for my new house. I am so glad to know that I’m not the only one that will go back, after fixating on something I really want. I’m so bad I can’t sleep thinking about something I should have gotten. Lesson learn, If you think you want it, save gas and time, bring it home the first time. Hope you had a great Mother’s day.
Great finds Shirley and what a beautiful place for the sale! I’m glad you were able to get them in your car. I drive a big vehicle, an extended SUV, and you would not believe how many times men helping me load something tell me it’s not going to fit! Apparently they don’t know that where there’s a will there’s a way!

How fun! So glad the chairs were still there for you! Sounds like a good time was had by two friends. So, when are you going to tell us what else you bought? The only thing I’ve been buying are flowers for all my pots! 😉
The chairs are YOU! Can’t wait to see what fabric you choose! I also noticed how you embellished your orchid. I did a very similiar arrangement a few years ago with 3 pieces of bamboo lying horizontally and the arrangement built around them Love the pussy willow in there too! It reminds me of Ikebana. XO

Great photos Shirley and I love the chairs. Can’t wait to see what you do with them.

Love those chairs, Shirley. I’ve had that happen to me, too, and did get lucky that when I went back the item (my mirror in the dining room) was still there. It was also the last day of the estate sale so it was 40% off, so it was a win-win!
