Housepitality Designs

it's all about the hospitable home

Wonderful Chippiness Added to the Guest Room

Once upon a time there was an antique blanket chest

that was at the foot of the iron bed in the guest room.

You can see it here when I revealed the guest room makeover.

That blanket chest was relocated to the sunroom to add more texture and warmth seen here.

Well, that left a void at the foot of the bed in the guest room.

So what is one to do? Well, you visit Mary Alice’s shop!

Guest Room Vintage Bench-Housepitality Designs

Just to give you a peek as to what it looked like

before the antique blanket chest was relocated:

The blanket chest now in the sunroom:

I love it here in the sunroom

adding warmth and a different element of texture

and successfully anchoring the room.

I am loving the chippy vintage bench in the guest room.

Now, do you notice anything under the bench?

No, it’s not the basket.

Vintage Bench-Guest Room/Housepitality Designs

It is the wonderful iron scrolled brackets.

Beside the form of the bench, the brackets are what sold me.

This bench just added the perfect juxtaposition

of the French Country hutch across from the bench

and the somewhat formality of the chinoiserie fabric of the bedding.

And the contrast of the wood and iron.

Now there is bench for my guests to sit or place a piece of luggage on.

I am sure I will be doing some tweaking of the area below the bench.

I was just very anxious to share this bench today!

Do you love to add a bit of chippiness to your decor of

something that was certainly well loved?

Have a great day!

Love the new bench … *chippiness* perfection and a wonderful addition to your guest suite, which, I’m surprised is every empty as I’m sure lots of friends and family want to retreat to such an inviting space! Love how you dressed it, as well … great idea adding the basket below … so attentive to details!

Yes I agree those brackets set it off.
What stood out was your flow blue pitcher. I have the mate but mine is a coffee pot.

I like the light and airy look of the bench as compared to the heaviness of the blanket chest in that room. Good choice.

I like your new “old” bench! I think it looks better than the blanket chest at the foot of the bed. I love old benches. There are so many ways you can use them.

LOVE this bench. Not too big. Hmmm, an idea for our new bedroom. Have to see if the hubby can work this out. Too bad I can’t visit Mary Alices shop. I’m sure that was one of a kind

Love it, Shirley! The iron brackets are so cool – and very unusual. Is this the room where I can stay when I eventually visit? I promise to not walk off with your bench πŸ™‚
PS – Congrats on your new myrtle topiary.

Wow, I just love this room. The bench is just perfect in that spot. I love the Asian bed comforter and the pretty blue pitcher that matches it perfectly and the flowers inside the pitcher. Just beautiful, Shirley.

I like the bench so much better at the foot of the bed. The antique chest looks better in the Sunroom. Your guest bedroom is perfect.

You are right–the brackets make the bench. I have a set like that and I’ve used them in my laundry room doorway…but now I might have to add them to a piece of furniture just for fun! Your new bench looks great!
