Love at first sight ~ The 2015 Southern Living Idea Home Part Two

You know that love at first sight moment,

whether it be an inanimate object or a human being.

Well on this day, it was this home for me. The 2015 Southern Living Idea Home.

2015 Southern Living Idea House

It had me at the copper lantern hanging on the front porch and entering the home and seeing

straight through to the gorgeous landscape of the valleys of the beautiful farmland.

When I walked through the door the first thing I saw were these boot forms.

I knew I was going to like this house!

Before I share the next photo, let me tell you a little bit about the house.

The design is Fox Hill, by of course,  Southern Living Home Plans.

The house is approximately 4,500 square feet, and sits on 21 acres of land in Bundoran Farm

that was previously owned by the Scott Paper Towel family. The farmland is 2,600 acres of beauty.

Sorry guys, the house is sold. I hear that it sold for 2.3 million dollars. (unfurnished)

Also, if you missed my first post about this glorious home, you can see it on my previous post

of Southern Living Idea Home Part One.

The foyer was so inviting. (Wall color: Sherwin Williams Steamed Milk ~ love that name)

I was taking the photos in “snipits” as it was hard to get a full room shot with so many

people viewing the home. Trying my best to capture just the rooms.

The mirror and the bench are antiques. The table by Stanley and lamps by Curry and Company.

No wonder I loved those lamps! . . .

As you enter the house, to the immediate left is the Tavern Library. . . exquisite walls!

The walls are of Heart Pine. Be still my heart.

Some of the furnishings are antique

some are from the Bunny Williams Home Collection, and other resources.

Many accessories from Ballard Designs, one of the sponsors of this Idea House.

Take notice of how they framed out the TV in this room.  Great idea!

This is such a warm and cozy sitting area/library.

What I so love about this house is the mix of warm woods and painted finishes.

The woodwork and the Heart Pine are truly magnificent…loved how they even placed the heart pine

on the ceiling in this area and love how they also so impeccably incorporated the wood stained doors.

As I mentioned previously, all of the wood flooring is heart pine and most of the rugs are

from Dash and Albert, The Bunny Williams Collection. Love how my feet love these floors!

So now we shall move on to the hub of the home.

The kitchen/dining room.

The kitchen is surrounded by gorgeous white cabinetry by Wellborn.

I have Wellborn cabinets in my home and love the quality of the cabinetry.

The kitchen island is enormous . . . perfect for food prep, buffets and the list goes on!

It has room for 4 counter stools.

Kitchen-2015 Southern Living Idea House

There is no formal dining room in this house. A trend that I see with many new homes.

I actually love the idea of that.

The dining room is directly across from the kitchen area

one large room.

The dining  chairs are from the Bunny Williams Collection.

I love the style and fabric of the chairs. Such a casual yet elegant feel to them.

Table by Tritter Feefer. The dinnerware is Bunny Williams Campbell House Dinnerware by Ballard Designs.

Tablecloth also by Bunny Williams/Ballard Designs.

Windows surround the dining area that overlooks the kitchen on one side

and a screened porch on the other. The chairs are covered in a durable Sunbrella fabric.

This is the view of the dining room from the Living Room.

Don’t you love how the very deep entry way is beautifully surrounded in great moulding detail?

The architectural details in this home are amazing. That is what my hubby was focusing on.

So that is it for today . . . lots more to come such as the bedrooms,

baths, laundry, living room and more!…But I leave you today with a photo of a photo.

The photo that Bunny Williams placed on the wall of the master suite galley.

Bunny Williams photograph-Housepitality Designs

An adorable photograph of Bunny Williams on a horse as a young child.

Do you notice anything? . . . . She is wearing bunny ears. Love it!

I was told that Bunny grew up in the area of Charlottesville and it was very special to her

to design this home for Southern Living in an area dear to her.

Have a wonderful day!!

  1. Hi, Shirley, love this house. My favorite is the large windows allowing so much light into the home. The library is my second favorite – I would spend long afternoons there reading and sipping tea. The kitchen cabinetry and island are gorgeous. And the entrance says ‘hello’ as soon as you open the door. Looking forward to seeing the bedrooms tomorrow.

  2. I love the style of the home. The color choices, hardwood floors, the boots and table choice for the foyer, and the kitchen. But I have to honestly say, that I can think of a few bloggers that would have done a much better job at decorating this home (hint;). Now if one of them would’ve been doing the decorating, that house would’ve totally been worth the money!
That’s a great idea actually! Have a few of you get together, and each one of you put your own spin on a room! How cool is that? Hope Southern Living reads this! LOL!

    • Thanks Cindy….I feel that the fabulous Bunny Williams did a great job incorporating such a a casual, yet elegant feel..I felt as if I could put my feet up in every room and yet feel the elegance around me. Stay tuned for more rooms…just a snipit so far…have a great day Cindy!

  3. Love, love, love the decor in this home. Can’t wait for more.

  4. Shirley this home has so much warmth and charm, just lovely!
The kitchen and dining room with all of those great windows and light streaming in are wonderful!

  5. The first few pictures looked like it WAS your house, the decor is so you!!!!! The dining table made me so happy, the combo of the orange and blue!!! I am amazed that you got all these pics without people in them; it is like you and Tom were there alone! What a fabulous house, the details and architecture are beautiful. Wish I could see it in person but your tour is like being there! The roosters on the table were one of my favorite accessories for some reason, so different. LOve that the stove top is positioned to look out the windows. How did you find out the sources? Do they give out a brochure? Thanks for this wonderful tour, can’t wait to see the rest!!!!!

    • Pinky…when you pay the admission fee ($15/pp) they give you a booklet. The resource guide for each room is in the book…should you need a particular resource, just let me know….Yes, lots of people there…wanted to get more pics of the main areas, but filled with people…

      • Good morning,

Thanks so much for sharing wonderful pictures of this beautiful home. Every picture sparks at least one idea for my home. Do you have resource information for the floral fabric used on the chair/ottoman in the Tavern Library? Just what I am looking for!

        • Thanks Karen…the chair and ottoman fabric is called Isabella (30) Gold/Olive by Bunny Williams for Lee

  6. Linda miller says

Very informative home tour, Shirley. What had me at “hello” was the view from the porch. It almost looks like a faux backdrop.

  7. What a beautiful home Shirley. I LOVE the floors. They are just gorgeous. Thank you for taking us along on the tour.

  8. This house is stunning! I am looking forward to seeing more of it.

  9. GORGEOUS Shirley…love those wood floors!!

  10. I agree with Cindy, coulda been decorated better by somebody we know and love..hint, hint. My old house has heart pine walls in the living room. Did have all through the dining room too until a certain Christmas when there was a fire~~it’s hard to match up heart pine, just sayin’. And it burns reallllll goooood and fast. Thank God no one was hurt.

This old house, there’s not a plumb or straight line in the whole house. But it’s ours.

  11. Oh my goodness. I absolutely love this home and I know you know why!:-)Pat and J could move in and be quite comfy in those surroundings.

We have a drop leaf table I’m using as a console table by the half wall. It is from American Drew. It is very similar to the table in the foyer of this home. When we moved most of the furniture from storage, one of the first things I noticed was that table is from the same collection as the square coffee table. The console table/server was in storage when I found the coffee table. Had no idea it was from the same collection. The round lamp tables I bought with the coffee table may also be from that collection. The finish is the same. Anyhow…I love those happy accidents.

  12. So fun to see the idea house through your eyes, thank you for sharing it with us,

  13. Hi Shirley, Love the interior and those boot forms had me right from the start. Love the wood floors too. Gorgeous decorating and so homey and inviting. Thanks for sharing.

  20. Shirley, thank you for this tour. I have been to many Southern Living Idea Homes in past years, but I love the location of this one with pastures and rolling hills! I am a country girl, so the warm heart pine library is so perfect! I have followed Bunny Williams for years and have her lovely coffee table books! Can’t wait to see more!

  24. Gorgeous Shirley, thanks for the mini tour! Those floors and that kitchen…be still my heart!

  26. So much to love about this home, not the least of which are the floors. I’ve always been drawn to flooring that has different tones to it. The dining chairs are another favorite. I adore the color and shape. As you said, casual but elegant.

(I had a feeling those were your tootsies on the stairs in the fifth picture and yup, I was right! Cute shoes).

  27. The home no doubt is fabulous in bones, however, the decor is very lacking in my opinion. I don’t think the rooms were stunning at all, especially the Tavern Library room. They seemed kind of hodge podge to me. Sorry, I am not trying to be negative here, but I think this beautiful home could have been decorated much differently.

  28. What a beauty. I particularly love the entry way. Unique way to display beautiful items…

  29. Disaster pine lifeless or removal, impaired pine removal, several different situations that
    may occur and tree shaping.

  30. Having read this I believed it was rather enlightening.
I appreciate you spending some time and effort to put this short article together.
I once again find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and
posting comments. But so what, it was still worthwhile!

  31. Hi, thank you! What is the first thing to do when renovating a house?
