it's all about the hospitable home

Summer Coastal Decor

Summer is the time we all think about heading to the beach.

However, some of us do not live near a  beach,

for us it is about a 2 1/2 hour drive.

So to have that classic summer feel in our home, it is why most of us love to decorate

with coastal/beach elements.

French Buffet/Coastal Vignette-Housepitality Designs

I incorporated some faux coral, starfish and shells to the vignette

on my antique French buffet, that I bought in a “coastal” town in France.

Ironstone Foot Bath-Housepitality Designs

Antique Japanese fishing net floats are scattered about.

And speaking of glass fishing net floats,

they were also placed in the ironstone dish with faux succulents for texture.

Sea glass is another element that I love to use in my summer decor.

The sea glass placed at the bottom of a hurricane adding pretty soft colors

to a neutral candle.

More sea glass is added to this Pottery Barn Leah Hurricane on the kitchen bar.

Sunroom-Housepitality Designs

A  crystal bowl holds sea glass in the sunroom.

Master Bathroom Side Table-Housepitality Designs

The master bathroom gets the summer coastal decor too.

Master Bath/vintage stool-Housepitality Designs

Starfish on a vintage chippy stool

And more starfish on a bathroom cabinet table top.

Both starfish items are from Pottery Barn.

Master Bathroom Chair-Housepitality Designs

Love my pillow of a beautiful print of coral from French Laundry Home.

More shells among the ironstone

Faux coral-Housepitality Designs

More faux coral in the great room.

We cannot forget the outdoors to add some summer coastal decor.

I love you have touches of costal when you do not live close to the beach. I think it is such a great touch for the summer months and it shouldn’t matter if the beach is our backyard or not. Off to catch up on my blog reading. Looking forward to seeing you at Haven in a few days!

Yes, let me grab my suit and towel and we will head to the beach and put our toes in the sand. You have really added that coastal feel.

I have my coastal touches out too! We collect sand from each beach we go to and put the sample in a small glass vial then write which beach it came from. Makes a fun souvenir! Love your chippy stool in the bathroom and that pillow! Ooooo!
The sea glass and floats are the perfect accent to the shells, etc. makes me want to go to the beach!

Just so pretty, Shirley! I think I will have a look in the cartons for some of my coastal things. We are only about 10 minutes from the Mississippi, that is a pretty good coastline/shoreline, wouldn’t you say?:-)

    Shirley,
I just love all your “coastal” accents and how you have incorporated them with your ironstone pieces. It gives a house such a summery feel whether you live near the beach or not. Oh, and that coral pillow you bought from the French Laundry….so pretty!

I bought a pair of sand fiddlers from the Pottery Barn outlet last summer and used them again on my mantle this year. They just look so summery!

Those are great coastal touches, Shirley. I’m missing living so close to the beach, but I’ve got my coral and starfish out, too, to remind me!

Just beautiful! I love sea glass. I live about an hour and a half from the beach, but the roads are such a pain especially during the Summer, bumper to bumper traffic ugh! I’d rather go in the Fall and it has cooled off some. I’m really a Mountain girl, whom am I kidding! Now, if I could be close to the coast with some mountains thrown in, I’m sure there’s somewhere like that right? Tell me so I can book a flight. (not happening but I can dream, right?)

    Airy & lovely
I live east of Richmond…in winter 90minutes to VA Beach….in the summer 4-6 hours to beach b/c of traffic!

You did a great job of bringing seaside elements into your home and incorporating them with your French-feel. I have found some inspiration from this post. I love everything French – and my home has a lot of French design elements. At the same time, I live within a five minute walk to the beach in Santa Barbara, CA – so I’ve been looking for ways to incorporate more ocean/seaside elements. Thanks for helping me.
