Adding An Antique Architectural Piece in the Kitchen {Antique Gingerbread Trim}

Adding an antique architectural piece in the kitchen (antique gingerbread trim) was on the agenda this week.

I have had this architectural piece for some time now. I purchased it from my friend Kristen.

It has been in various places, like the dining room and on the ledge of the stairwell.

I was not really thrilled about its placement in either of those places.

I then had an epiphany, that ah-ha moment that it just may very well look great in the kitchen.

Kitchen - Housepitality Designs

The antique gingerbread trim was placed above the cabinets at one end of the kitchen.

Don’t worry, this chippy piece has been heavily sealed to prevent further chipping!

When we first placed the trim above the cabinets it was there for a few days looking like this:

The piece seemed a bit lonely . . . afloat.

Something was missing . . . I thought it needed something like a finial of sorts

something similar in design like my garden finial.

Garden Finial - Great Room Hearth - Housepitality Designs

Not as big or heavy though!!!

I shopped the house, hoping that I could find something I already had that would work.

Architectural/Gingerbread Piece - Housepitality Designs

I spotted these Pottery Barn urns/pots that I had in the media room.

Thought that the color and texture would go well with the gingerbread trim.

It was a good thing that I had a pair of these.

I love these pieces in that space.

And love it more since this project was a no-cost one. Using what I already had.

Aren’t those the best projects?

Hope you have a great weekend with fun plans.

I will be on the ballfield . . . well not really ON the ballfield, but on the bleachers

cheering on the team to hopefully victory. A local tournament, so I may have time

in-between games to continue my other project I started.

Organizing and decluttering!!!

Organizing and Donating - Housepitality Designs

Organizing and getting rid of things that do not bring me joy!

All with the help of this book:

“The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing.”

I started with my closet and so far filled 8 bags of clothes to donate and I am still not finished!

My friend Linda gave me some advice, if it doesn’t look fabulous on you, chuck it!

And I am!

Have a most fabulous weekend!!

I need to get that book and BE RUTHLESS in my closet(s)!!! I have clothes in 3 closets for cryin out loud! Ceazy! Now, I ADORE the architectural piece and the urns there are PERFECT! I almost always now buy a pair of something cause that is usually what we need, right? Enjoy the games. We have no plans:(:( Joe hasn’t been anywhere yet but the PT lady said yesterday he should get out. Maybe I can persuade him for dinner tomorrow night!

Yes, the pottery pieces did the trick. Have not read this de-cluttering book everyone is raving about. I have no problem getting rid of clothes…my motto is if it isn’t comfortable and flattering get rid of it…but do you think you can be this ruthless with your shoes, boots and decor items? Those are my trouble spots!

No cost projects definitely are the best! πŸ™‚ I’m in the middle of decluttering and organizing some closets and cabinets in my home, too! It’s been pretty liberating, feel so much lighter now! I love the piece you hung over your cabinet, and the color is a nice contrast to the cabinet color! Have a great time cheering this weekend, hope ya’ll bring home victory! ~Rhonda

Congrats on finding a new home for your architectural piece. But more so, for finding a new home for your clothes that don’t make you feel fab! Maybe, they will bring joy to someone else.

Love the architectural piece along with the urns. Those really helped ground it. I need to purge again soon, too. Lots of stuff will be carried to the consignment shop and clothes to GoodWill.

I love your gingerbread trim Shirley, if you grow tired of it, I know a Potting Shed that would give it loving home! We had a big de-cluttering a year ago when we sold our house in Charlotte. It’s amazing how freeing that feeling is once you decide to let go. Enjoy your time in the bleachers πŸ™‚

My daughter bought this book and loves it. She is finding it very helpful to organize her home, with two small children and a career! I’m tired just thinking about how full her days are! lol I’m finding retirement very relaxing… We don’t live close to each other, so I’m not able to help.
Love the new touches to your kitchen – always a bonus when you don’t have to buy something new.

If I got rid of everything that didn’t look fabulous on me, I’d be walking around necked. :/

As for that gingerbread piece, you have the Midas touch Shirley. I never would have thought to place it there, but it looks fabulous!

That looks so nice–I love the symmetry with the urns added! And I think I’m going to have to buy that book, but I’m afraid I’ll wind up giving away everything I own! LOL
