it's all about the hospitable home

Our Media Room Dressed for Christmas

Our media room is basically like a family room.

We call it the media room as we gather there when we have a crowd to watch T.V.

It is a great place to gather as we have a little kitchenette

in that room to serve food and beverages.

There is a fireplace in that room, so there is another mantel to decorate!

Because the T.V. is above the mantel,

the decorations not only need to be of a more simple nature,

I also have to make certain that they do not hinder the T.V. viewing.

We must not miss that important play or that incredible catch!

A Santa made from a vintage quilt sits on one end of the mantel.

The graduated Santas flank the other side of the mantel.

This Santa by Jim Shore is truly special.

One year my dear friend Ruthie gave it to me for Christmas

and I gave her the same exact thing for Christmas.

We had a great laugh on Christmas Day when we opened our gifts.

This was not the first time that it had happened.

Now Ruthie is with the angels . . . I can hear her sing every day.

This room has a large conversational leather sofa

that is quite comfortable. Leather really isn’t my choice

but so practical for this room and its purpose.

A Borden’s Cheese box holds wrapped gifts that were

part of the many gifts that I wrapped for the Gift Wrapping Ideas post.

The kitchenette is decorated in a vintage 50’s style.

Across from the red diner style table is an area that used to have

an antique pie safe which held many vintage kitchen pieces.

That pie safe is now in the sunroom and this amazing screen door that was

once Mary Alice’s is taking it’s place.

A tree of cotton garland stands beside the door.

A large stocking made from a vintage quilt hangs on a vintage sled

that was always placed on the front porch every Christmas.

The sled is coming in from the cold this year!

The tree has a name. “Lulu” Why Lulu?

Well my blog friend Linda aka Lulu of Lulu’s Musings stated that she loved my tree

and she was not putting up one this year.

(I am thinking because she will be out of town – – – as she is such the traveler).

So Lulu, this tree is for you!!

Love it Shirley! You have the best media room and you decorate it so perfectly. Our media room doesn’t have a kitchen…we need to add that.

I always love your decorations for every season especially Christmas. Last year I fell in love with your Nutcracker Tree. So this year I started collecting nutcracker ornaments. They weren’t as easy to find as I would have thought. But I plan to add more. Thanks for your inspiration.

Thank you, friend. I like that my tree is in a room where people gather for shared time and fun. The cotton is a little bit of fluff which is very appropriate!

Cute story about Ruthie. Just goes to show you’re on the same wavelength.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen your media room. It’s beautiful, and how nice for you to have two mantels to decorate.
