The Soft Glow of Candlelight and Lavender Roses ~ A Vignette

I think I am the only one around still putting away the Christmas decorations.

They are all out of the rooms throughout the house; however,

they are hiding in the bonus room waiting to be boxed up and put away.

When you know that there is still much work to do

but you need a little break now and then,

you need that quiet place where you can sit

and have a sense of beauty and serenity around you.

So I created my first winter vignette of the year for the coffee table.

Several months ago, I spotted these beautiful lavender roses in the grocery store.

After a few days of being in the vase,

I decided that they would be wonderful dried.

So I proceeded to dry them rather than let them bloom out in the vase.

The bouquet of the dried lavender roses have been

gracing one of the shelves of the dining room hutch.

Until now . . . placed on a silver trophy tray with a lidded monogram candle

and one of my favorite ironstone creamers.

I accompanied the silver tray items with an ironstone tureen of preserved boxwood

and an ironstone pitcher that sits on top of some decorating books with lavender covers.

When I was at the grocery store, I spotted more lavender roses.

They jumped into my cart.

I am not sure why I have been so attracted to the lavender roses lately.

As yellow roses are truly my favorite.

Into a vintage ironstone creamer they went.

Could it be the soft romantic color of it?

Not to mention loving the fragrance of lavender itself.

Maybe attracted to the soft romantic colors during the winter

that go so well with the warm glow of a candle.

So how about you? Are you more attracted to the softer colors of flowers during the winter?

Or do you stick with your favorite colors and even those that coordinate with your room.

What is your favorite rose?

Have a great day!….Glad that my site is back as it was down for a couple of days.

But all’s well that ends well!

  1. Yay, it took a bit of waiting, but the blog finally loaded. I hope they get this fixed.
I love dried roses and the lavender is gorgeous. Hmmmm, I may need to go get some flowers. That will add some life to the house while it is so bare outside the windows.

  2. Those are so pretty, both fresh and dried! My favorite roses used to be white and are now tangerine. Beautiful vignette. I worked ALL day yesterday putting Christmas away. Still have 2 things to do this morning! Left my gingerbread bar in tact and the snowmen in the breakfast room (yesterday’s post). XO

  3. Oh, those are so beautiful! LOL, no you’re not the only one still working on boxing up the Christmas decorations! And, I even bought some more…it’s not my fault! I took a prescription to my drug store, and while browsing while it was being filled spotted their Christmas decor marked down…there were mercury glass birds on clearance! They just spoke to me, demanding I purchase them for next year! How could I resist? And the battenburg lace runner was 35% off! I NEEDED it for my hutch! *sigh* I’m a sucker for markdowns, what can I say?

  4. Beautiful winter vignette. I too am a fan of dried roses and preserved boxwood. Both look wonderful with your white and silver pieces. I think you most certainly achieved a romantic look and feel.

Like you I removed all of the holiday décor from the main rooms of our home and now it’s staring at me from the den downstairs waiting to be boxed and put away. I’m lucky to have such a helper in my husband. He’s retired and I am still working. He trekked it all down there so all I have to do is actually box it. So nice! Love your roses. You are always so inspiring. Off to Trader Joe’s I go 🙂

  6. Lovely winter vignette Shirley. Don’t you just love how the pretties just jump in the cart?? I enjoy to dry roses too and use them in different ways. My favs are red, white and pinks and some yellows too. These all dry with a vintage look to them. Enjoy the week and thanks for sharing the inspiration. xo

  12. Your lavender roses are beautiful and I know they smell divine. Your vignette looks so pretty on the coffee table with all you pretty white iron stone dishes.

Don’t feel bad about Christmas decorations, I got them put away, but every time I walk into a room I find more stuff that didn’t get put into the right tub. So, I am sure next Christmas I will go crazy looking for the items.

I wondered why you hadn’t posted for awhile. Glad everything is fixed.
    Have a great week Shirley.

  21. Love the roses…….I’m still undecorating as well. Loved this Holliday season and hate to let go of it.

  22. The roses are so pretty Shirley! Glad that your blog is back up. I know that had to be very stressful. You are not the only one still putting up Christmas. At least yours is in the bonus room. Mine is all piled in the dining room. Trying to get inspired but after a month of rushing its kinda nice to just be.

  23. Sherry Myers says

No, Shirley, you are not the only one! We just finished taking down our last tree. Believe it or not, I hated to see the last item packed away. I love how warm and rich the house looks and feels throughout the Christmas season. And I hate how bleak and bare everything can look when it’s all packed away. So, it was a delight to see this inspiring and comforting post. Just lovely. I love your vignette. Sweet. Keep that candle lit and I will be right over with my book and hot tea! Love your blog..still!

  26. Beautiful post. Love the vignette.

  27. It’s definitely rose season with Valentine’s Day just a month away. There’s nothing like flowers to chase away the winter blues!
