The Sunroom Vote

Last week, I posted on my Facebook page asking what accent color you preferred

in the sunroom. Red or Blue. I received many, many answers and suggestions

on which color was preferred. I took your suggestions and opinions seriously.

So this is what I decided to do for now.

Drum roll please . . . . . .

Red Transferware pitcher - Housepitality Designs

Red for Winter and blue for Spring and Summer was the suggestion from many.

So that is what I did and when I was planning on returning the red into the sunroom,

I made it a point not to use the same pillows and added new accessories,

like this gorgeous red transferware pitcher.

I have always adored this pitcher that belonged to my friend Martha

who will be moving soon to be closer to her family.

She is selling many of her exquisite antiques as she will be downsizing.

I asked Martha if she was considering selling the pitcher, and she said yes!

I knew at it would be perfect in the sunroom.

Do you recognize the pillows? The red and white toile pillow was in the Great Room.

The red and green paisley pillows have been the Media Room for years.

An ironstone bowl is filled with dried lavender roses and a linen candle.

When I was shopping the house for pillows, it occurred to me

that I had these red and green paisley pillows in the Media room

that were actually napkins from Pottery Barn made into pillows.

The colors work very nicely in the sunroom.

I also searched for more red accessories.

The red olive jar that I purchased many years ago from a Southern Living Home Party,

(do you remember those? . . . I went to many!)

also came up from the Media Room.

Vintage Charles Dickens books flank the olive jar.

The red iron scroll lamp returns to the sunroom.

For another change in the room, I changed the container for the plant

from the olive bucket to the Red Wing Crock.

So what do you think?

Red for the Winter months . . . .

and blue for the Spring and Summer? Sounds like a plan!!

Speaking of plans . . . I hope you are planning on having a most beautiful day.

It will be a bit dreary here . . . a wintery mix as they say.

However, I will be planning to do some more refreshing and re-styling.

Come back and see where all of the blue accessories from the sunroom landed!

  12. I never liked red as a child (except for Christmas, of course!)but the older I get the more I enjoy red as an accent color. I tend toward blue and all its many partnerships, but red is so warm, it’s very welcome in the colder parts of the year. Then of course, there’s the red, white & blue combos for July and patriotic holidays~~

  13. I love your pitcher. I don’t own any red transferware, but I really like it. I also love your paisley pillows. Those pillows inspire me to brush up on my very basic sewing skills!

  14. Shirley, I love the touches of red! And your red transfer ware is beautiful. I have often thought about trying to make pillows from napkins…and loved seeing how yours turned out. I miss our sunroom from the Georgian. You have exquisite taste and style! Sheila

I love the pops of red. So appropriate for the sunroom. It reminds me of the beautiful reds of a glowing sunset sky. You always know how to add just the right accents to tell the story of your plan. The flower colors you chose for your new pitcher are perfect! Our skies are grey today, so I would love to be seated in your lovely room with a book and and a cup of tea. Enjoy restyling!

  22. Love the red in the Sun room, but you know that I am a red gal.

So sorry that it is dreary there, we are having 90 degree temperature and feels like July or August. At least it does cool down in the evening so it’s not to hot to sleep.

Looking forward to when you use the blue in the Sun Room – everything looks terrific, Shirley. You never disappoint.

    Have a great week.

  23. Shirley, your room looks beautiful and I love the transferware pitcher! What a perfect decision to do red now and blue and green for spring.

  28. Saw your link at Savvy Southern and had to visit! Love the new red pitcher from Martha. And love your idea of red in the winter (brightens up those dull days of darkness) and blue in the summer to cool off – perfect! Your sun room is lovely, wish I had one!

  29. Yay for red! It looks gorgeous Shirley. So comfy! I want to come over and have a nice cup of coffee and some warm chocolate chip cookies with you:) And then a glass of wine later.

  30. Very pretty, Shirley! I love all the red touches but those paisley pillows, oh my! We will be having Spring tomorrow – temps in the 80’s. I can’t get over how odd the weather’s been – our Winter has been very mild. I don’t think we’ve had but a handful of nights in the low 30’s. It’s just weird!
