I didn’t shop the house,
but I shopped someone else’s house!!! ….. My friend Martha’s house to be exact.
I presented a beautiful red transferware pitcher to you the other day
which was also a purchase from Martha who is moving
and downsizing her beautiful collections and antiques.
When Martha told me the sad and yet happy news of her and hubby moving to be
closer to their son in Texas, she said that she will be selling some of her antiques
and collectibles. One thing came to mind for me and yes, it was for sale!
I have always admired this item every time I was in Martha’s home.
A very special piece and it is an item of part of my heritage.
My dad was Scotch/Irish and this piece is from Scotland.
I believe this piece is circa 1800’s made by
Scottish Cooperative Wholesale Society, LTD.
I knew exactly where I wanted to place this beauty.
You may have already guessed what this is.
A magnificent antique scale of iron, brass, and ceramic.
I am drawn to special unique pieces and this is certainly on of those.
I knew it would be perfect on the French Buffet.
It is surrounded by special things with special meaning and this scale will
always be very special and near and dear to my heart.
I hope you too are surrounded with things that are near and dear to your heart
and most of all surrounded by the people who make your heart sing.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!

Nice build up! That is very cool and beautiful! I can’t stop staring at the stained glass as well. Such a lovely home. Happy Valentine’s to you as well!
That scale is amazing! My heritage is Scottish/Irish as well, so I’m also drawn to such. I have a confession: I’d been trying to show a little restraint and not buy the pitcher that called to me at the antique store. I visited it a couple times. And then I open your last blog post, and there she is, the little beauty. I took it as a sign and off I went to make her mine. Happy day.
I too am Scots/Irish, all my life I was told the family was Scotch Irish, I had a teacher in grade school correct me one time and embarrassed me by asking was my grandfather a whiskey or a person. Later in life I did do some checking, and found I was Scots/Irish and not the other.
Loved your story Gwen!
Cassandra…I am happy that my newly acquired pitcher inspired you to rescue one from the antique shop!
Lucky you to get such a treasure! Mh hubby is of Scottish heritage too. Me, English & Irish. It’s the feelings and emotions that become the provenance of our things. You’re table vignettes are always beautiful sheila
Oh it just gorgeous, and it looks so pretty on your French chest….
Wishing you a great Valentine’s Day ?
I love your vignette, I’m so glad you were able to get such a treasure. Especially since it has double meaning for you. But, I just can’t take my eyes off the stain glass, you have it showcased just perfectly.
I know you have always loved scales and this one is so unique and special! So nice to have a piece of your heritage. Happy Valentines Day to you and your family! ?
What a beautiful piece. Love the stained glass window so much. Gorgeous area!!
Oh what a beautiful scale, Shirley. Yes, I also have some items that are very special to me. Which would be very hard for me to let go of. It looks very good where you have placed it. I know your friend feels good that someone she likes a piece that she was very fond of.
Hope hubby is feeling better. Not fun having the flu – you take care that you don’t get it.
Have a terrific week.
Mary

How beautiful, Shirley, and it looks great on your buffet. I like that you don’t have a lot on there so that the scale really catches your eye.
Your scale is a beauty Shirley and deserves a special place of honor! Happy Valentine’s Day! ♥
