Housepitality Designs

it's all about the hospitable home

A Touch of Spring in the Dining Room

A touch of Spring in the dining room was on the agenda as my

first Spring project this year.

I had done a moss project this past summer and created another one

that coordinated well with the items on the dining room table.

Last summer I covered a flameless candle with moss for some interesting texture.

You obviously do not want to use a regular candle due to the flammability of the moss.

Moss Covered Candle on Pottery Barn Bunny Dessert Plate - Housepitality Designs

A bunny dessert plate by Pottery Barn is a great way to display the candle.

Truly adds a sense of whimsy.

I have used this bunny dessert in many ways other than dessert.

The centerpiece vignette actually began with my Franciscan/Johnson Brothers salad plates.

The carrot plate has always been my favorite.

A pepper shaker is placed on the dish for a little embellishment.

Rather than a typical runner, I layered three napkins

in a diamond pattern in the middle of the table.

The mate of the salt shaker rests on the other plates,

with another one of my favorites, the radishes design.

As I previously stated, I covered another item in moss for the table,

this is a  peek of the back side of it.

Spring Place Setting - Housepitality Designs

I covered something with moss to contain these:

When I placed the tulips in a crystal vase,

it seemed like something just wasn’t right.

I looked over at the covered candles and had the epiphany.

Cover it with moss!

Moss Covered Vase - Housepitality Designs

I had a bag of regular moss on hand,

and hot glued it to an inexpensive glass vase.

I would recommend that you use sheet moss as it is mush easier to apply.

A raffia bow is added for additional color and texture.

I am happy with  my very first Spring centerpiece/vignette

in the dining room.

Spring Centerpiece - Housepitality Designs

 It evolved gaining inspiration

from items that I gathered from my stash.

Mossy Spring Tablescape - Housepitality Designs

Well, other than the $4.99 bunch of pretty tulips from Trader Joe’s.

Can’t get any better than beautiful tulips and moss!

I love the moss wrapped candles on this pretty spring table. That is the cutest bunny plate. Great color in those tulips. I just wish they lasted longer. My Trader Joe’s bunch is looking a little sad.

What a fantastic idea to wrap the vase and the candles in moss, Shirley! It lends so much texture to your table, and I’m really digging those salt and pepper shakers, too! (You know I’d like those!)

Oooh, love your choices! And moss makes that candle look wonderful, I’m gonna try that~ I have the cutest set of salt/pepper shakers that are bunnies. The man is a very country gentleman (pepper)and the lady bunny has a cute bonnet and long dress with apron. I bought them years ago at a drug store, of all places! They had a lovely selection of gifts, and I usually ended up buying something every time I got a prescription filled! LOL!

Oh, my that moss covered vase is just perfect! You know I have a “thing” for moss, it just adds the perfect natural element to any season. Hubby says if he didn’t stand still, I would throw some moss on him too! Your table is beautiful! I am so ready for the renewal that Spring brings.

Hi Shirley, your table setting is just lovely. I especially love those plates and that adorable flatware holder in the shape of carrots. Too cute.

You’ve incorporated so many fun elements and you’ve brought them all together in a beautiful way.

Between this and the 60-degree temperature today… I’m definitely in the mood for Spring.
