An Antique Table of Memories

In my last post you were shown some amazing antiques that my friends Martha

and her husband Bill, are selling due to their relocation to the Lone Star State.

I have been working with Martha this week on sale preparations, mainly “marketing

and promotion” and I must say it has been a little hard for me.

Not physically, but emotionally.

When I come home from helping her just a bit, the reality sets in.

That they are really moving. It is a good move for them.

To be closer to their son and his family.

I will always have memories of our many activities together, such as our

Sewing Group . . . where lately there was more b – – – – i n’ than stitchin’,

our Crafty Chicks projects, our dinners, bunco and the list goes on.

I have made many moves myself . . . leaving lots of friends and family.

However, you make new friends, friends for life, friends that you know

you will always stay in touch with as they touched your life in a beautiful way.

Friendship is like a fine china pattern, beautiful and timeless.

Timeless . . . as when you meet again . . . you pick up where you left off,

feeling as though there was little time since you have last seen each other.

When I sit in this sitting area of my dining room

relaxing with a cup of tea, or with my first cup of coffee in the morning,

I will think of dear Martha and Bill too.

As my cup will be sitting on a beautiful antique table once owned by them

with an exquisite piece of china that once belonged to her mother.

I am blessed with the most wonderful family and friends.

Friends that I will treasure forever.

Friends that I can talk on the phone for hours, catching up, until we meet again.

So as the late beautiful couple of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans would say,

“Happy trails to you . . . till we meet again”

And that we will, as Martha is moving close to Round Top!!! 🙂

Have a wonderful day, remembering close friendships of the past

and treasuring the ones of the present.

  2. Then you will be able to visit Martha and have fun at Round Top. With the internet we can stay so close to good friends and family that move away. But it still can’t take the place of popping over to the house for a quick hello. Sometimes change can be bittersweet as people move on to the next phase of life.

  4. I know you will miss your dear friend. I am glad you are thinking ahead and planning to meet her and go to Round Top!! I would love to do that! Many of my dearest friends have moved away, many to Fl. but we do make new friends, keep in touch with the oldest friends and are THRILLED when they come back this way for a visit! Your “new” table is beautiful, and even better that it will always remind you of Martha!!

  5. It’s hard to say goodbye, isn’t it? Beautiful table and China piece. Love the table especially. How nice to have such a sweet reminder of your friendship. I bet Martha is glad you have those pieces…it would be so difficult to part with such special treasures.

Yes, you will definitely need to visit Texas and go to Round Top. It is quite the experience!

It would be so nice to have a friend I could share my interests with. Most of my friends have husbands that do all the gardening and no one does crafts that live close by. I have met some nice people at classes I took but it never develops into a deep close relationship as you have. I would love to move out of state some day but I’m mixed-do I leave the few friends I have, will the people be friendly in a state I’ve never visited. Sometimes I just want to let loose and go but then I’m a bit reluctant. I love the table and would crochet a beautiful doily for it.

  13. What a wonderful tribute to Martha and a beautiful table to remind you of her! You are so right about old friends (as you are one) that you can just pick up where you left off. It is a special connection that works even when friends are apart. By the way, so many of my things remind me of you…things of the past and new ones!

  14. Shirley, such a sweet post…you said it beautifully. I am so glad you are already planning your trips to see them and to do something that you enjoy together! Blessings!

  17. Aww..Sad that your friend is moving away but you will see her and talk to her on phone. I know she hated to leave and leave her friends but I understand wanting to be close to Son. At least you have a beautiful table to sit at and remember the good times together. You can sit at that table with your coffee or tea and talk to her for 2 hours or Skype so it seems like she is sitting there with you. Oh well, I am trying to make this move easier for you. And…I call this true friendship for her to give you a piece of fine china that belonged to her mother!

  18. From this dish lover your friendship/china analogy is one I can appreciate Shirley! Round Top just got a lot more fun for you 🙂
