it's all about the hospitable home

The HGTV Smart Home 2016 Part I and Serendipity

The HGTV Smart Home 2016 and Serendipity?

What does this magnificent home, that I had the great pleasure of touring,

have to do with serendipity?

Well, I will  explain it all at the end of this post.

In the meantime, enjoy the Part I of the tour of the great HGTV Smart Home 2016

located in Raleigh, North Carolina,  tucked into a quiet, charming neighborhood.

HGTV Smart Home 2016 Exterior with car

This series of posts that I will be doing on the Smart Home

will be a combination of photos that I took and ones offered to me by the HGTV staff.

The builder is Homes by Dickerson

HGTV Smart Home 2016

The President of Homes by Dickerson was present to answer the many questions that we had.

I love the stained ceiling of the front porch.

You usually see them painted white and I can attest that it does become a chore

those several times a year when you have to clean painted white beadboard.

Again, I do love the look of the dark stained porch ceiling.

As soon as you enter the Smart Home, which is secured by the SimpliSafe Security System that is

wireless and installs in seconds and is controlled by your smartphone,

directly in front of you is the living room.

Furnishings and most accessories by Bassett Furniture.

There are however, many beautiful art and sculpture pieces from local artisans.

I loved the color scheme as soon as I walked into the home as they are some

of my very favorite color combinations.

Some of which you see in my home.

Rugs by Shaw.

The combination of color, pattern and texture is impeccable.

The designer for the 2016 Smart Home is Design Star, Tiffany Brooks.

I had the pleasure of asking her some questions with regard to the home

and some “personal” questions too.

Me: “What was your inspiration for the design and color scheme for the house.

Tiffany: “The tile in the kitchen” . . . and what gorgeous tile it is!

HGTV Smart Home 2016 Kitchen

I love that the tile goes all the way up to the crown moulding.

I asked Tiffany how she described her design style,

she said, “Classic with a funky twist” and she surely achieved this with her gorgeous classic

and  fresh modern signature feel in every room.

Do you see that glimpse of white shelving? That is a glimpse of the pantry.

Appliances by Electrolux.

To the left as you enter the home and adjacent to the kitchen is the dining area.

I love that it has both a formal yet casual feel . . . ready to have family dinners

or an area for ones to gather to do homework and other activities of our daily living.

HGTV Smart Home 2016 Dining Room

There are two lovely corner built-in cabinets on each side of the window.

HGTV 2016 Smart Home - Housepitality Designs

When you enter through the door from the garage,

you enter an area where there are built-in cabinets and shelving . . . a butler’s pantry.

This pantry leads into the kitchen.

Such wonderful storage and the way it has been designed can keep anyone organized!

HGTV 2016 Smart Home - Housepitality Designs

A group of very handy and pretty hooks to the left of the door for a convenient place

to hang your bags and such.

HGTV 2016 Smart Home - Housepitality Designs

At one end of the butler’s pantry/mudroom area is a small office/work area.

Such a pretty and organized place to work!

There truly is no lack of beautiful storage space!

HGTV 2016 Smart Home - Housepitality Designs

The HGTV Smart Home is successfully created by so many talented people and vendors.

I will touch upon many of the things that makes this home really “smart”!

In the meantime, meet two people of the many people who contributed to the success of the home.

Tiffany Brooks – HGTV Design Star and Designer of the HGTV 2016 Smart Home and

Carley Knobloch, HGTV Smart Home 2016 Tech Expert (on right)

Carley has the HGTV.com remodel series “Smart, Simple, Solved” She offers high and low tech

solutions for your home and daily living, such as de-stressing your morning routine.

Carley is also a regular on The Today Show and CNN.

They were both so wonderful and fun!

Now for the reason why this experience was so serendipitous!

My son has been researching a home to buy. He had narrowed it down to a particular

neighborhood that he loves. He originally was looking at 2 particular builders.

After touring the 2016 HGTV Smart Home, I realized that the builder was also one of the

builders that is building in the neighborhood of his choice. I told him that I was very

impressed with Homes by Dickerson’s construction.

Long story short ….. my son went on their website, saw a plan that he liked,

looked at that home under construction and he bought it!!! Hopefully, if all goes well,

he will close in early June. He was very impressed with the construction and the staff.

So, serendipity took place when I had the opportunity to be part of the media event for the

2016 HGTV Smart Home!!!

Stay tuned for MORE on the Smart Home. I have more beauty and innovation to share.

Another 2 gorgeous floors of rooms and porches!!  And more of the interview of Tiffany too!

Have a beautiful day everyone!

I really like this home! The outside has very attractive curb appeal, and I too love the stained porch ceiling! There’s definitely a generous amount of color and texture going on inside, but it all seems to flow nicely so far. L-O-V-E the storage areas! Can’t have too much of that! I do think that the tile in the kitchen is gorgeous, but I would be afraid that I might not like it in another 5 years. I’m soooo excited for your son too!!! Hopefully he won’t live to far away!!! looking forward to seeing more of the house:)
