In the evening after a long day of activities,
it is always nice to know that I can have that Calgon bath to take me away!
12 years ago, when we were working on the plans for our house,
there was one thing that was on my “must have” list. A free standing tub.
I went with a slipper claw foot tub and love it.
Once a month the Country French Design Series, post as a group, our unique perspectives on a common theme,
and this is the third in our three part series, “Morning, Noon and Night”
I invite you to enjoy the wonderful posts below envoking a French Country Evening.
This month I present a room that is part of my evening routine,
and I am sure it is part of yours too!!! 🙂
Another thing on my “must have” list for the house were bathrooms
that were large enough to accomodate a chair. Such a convenient thing to have in a bathroom.
Actually my granddaughter was the one who used the tub the most.
Now she is at the age when she would prefer showers, but her “Rubber Duckie”
that she had as an infant still remains on the ledge of the tub. I cannot seem to put it away!
Here she is when she was less than a month old wrapped in a towel after her bath.
This photo is a staple on the vanity.
Previously in this space was an antique cabinet.
The cabinet is now slotted to go to my son’s new home.
I brought this vintage table up from the media room and love the lighter feel.
Over the table hangs a print by P. Buckley Moss. It is a print of a watercolor of a Grist Mill
that has been deemed an historic site/building that is in Southwestern Virginia.
This particular print is so special to me, as it is a Grist Mill that was special to my dear friend
Ruth who passed away a couple years ago. The historic Grist Mill is situated on family property
that was dear to her. I pretty much start and end the day seeing this beautiful print.
Another fairly new item that I brought into the Master Bathroom is this sweet French Country
table that I purchased from my sweet friend Mary Alice.
It was originally yellow in color and I gave it a coat of ASCP Pure White.
It fit perfectly in this space where I originally had a three-tiered glass shelf.
I brought up the vintage French enamelware pitcher from the guest bathroom
that I purchased in France and love it on this sweet table.
On the table among the sea sponges is one of my favorite soaps that is made in North Carolina.
The smell of this lavender soap, so appropriately named Paris is so wonderful.
Actually it is also a favorite of my hubby’s … it sits by his sink in a wonderful ironstone bowl
that I got from guess who …. Mary Alice!
The Cherry cabinetry is by Wellborn. Crystal hardware by D. Lawless Hardware
On each side of the vanity are tall cabinets that serve as linen closets.
There is ample room for linens and storage.
Mirrors by Uttermost.
Bathroom rug is an indoor/outdoor rug by Dash and Albert …. perfect for a bathroom!
It’s getting late and it has been one of those “Calgon Take Me Away” days.
I will light my amazingly fragrant candle that my friend Claudia made for me.
And say good night!
But don’t go away as you will want to visit my 6 fellow French Country Design Bloggers
presenting the theme this month of “Night” . . . lots of inspiration here!!

Hi Shirley! Oh, honey! Your bathroom is totally a dream! What a beautiful bathtub and I do love the pretty chair in there. I love your sweet print and the story behind it. I do like this artist’s work! I see it quite a bit in this area where we live. Your little tables and special touches look wonderful. I could imagine the long soaking baths in your gorgeous bathroom. Hope you’re doing well.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
This bathroom is just divine, Shirley…I love it! Oh I do miss our slipper tub. When Mr. BHL and I renovated our first home, we had one of these! The inside was in perfect condition, but the outside needed some work. We had the claw feet “glass-beaded”, and I removed all of the paint on the outside body of the tub. Three days later, and a bad case of tendinitis for a month, she looked beautiful! LOL! Thanks for sharing your dreamy bathroom;) Never get rid of the ducky:D

Your bathroom is gorgeous, Shirley. I love the soothing colors. Perfect. Actually,l my favorite color combinations. Once again your decor styling is worthy of imitation. Who wouldn’t want to crawl into that invigorating looking tub at the end of a long day? I know I would. Give me a book, fill the tub with luxurious bubbles, turn on the music, and I’m there! Thanks for this evening tour, Shirley. Divine.
Such a beautiful space to relax and unwind! I love all the sentimental pieces you’ve gathered for this special place. Enjoy the weekend ahead, Shirley!! xoxo, L

So beautiful, Shirley! Thanks for the tour. I so enjoy a wonderful bath with a bar of french- milled or homemade scented soap–perfect way to end the day–and climb into bed with a good book!
What a luxury to have a comfy chair by the bath! But I must say I was blown away by that elegant vintage table with the jewelry tree, sigh, so perfect! I am going to have to figure out a way to do something like this, sheer heaven! Thanks Shirley!

Shirley your bathroom is gorgeous! I would spend all evening that you tub. Is it for rent? lol Have a wonderful weekend. xx Jo
Your bathroom and especially the tub is just dreamy! I contemplated recently when redoing our bathrooms replacing the jacuzzi tub. However, there are times when my aching body or Mike’s aching back actually use the jet tub so we opted to keep it. I love your tub!

The words about your granddaughter are especially touching. Keeping the “rubber duckie” on the tub is such a sweet thing to do as a grandmother.
