Housepitality Designs

it's all about the hospitable home

May 24, 2016 By Shirley

I Couldn’t Leave Them Behind, So I Broke My Own Rule

I couldn’t leave them behind, so I broke my own rule.

My rule of trying to re-design my interiors, using what I already had in the house.

I was doing pretty good, until I saw these.

Temptation set in, and it won.

Blue and White Ginger Jar Lamp - Housepitality Designs

I was in HomeGoods searching for a mirror for my son’s new home.

As I was approaching the area where the mirrors were, I passed the lamp department.

And there they were.

Ralph Lauren Ginger Jar Lamps - Housepitality Designs

I have some small ginger jars by Ralph Lauren Home that are currently on my mantel

and these lamps are from the same collection.

Blue and White/Sofa Table - Housepitality Designs

Actually, I have quite a few things from this collection and thought,

is it too much? Too many things “matchy-matchy” ?

Then again . . . they may not land in the same area

as the other items in the collection. And then again, maybe so.

Blue and White/Sofa Table - Housepitality Designs

The lamps spoke to me in more ways than one, and they jumped into the cart.

Blue and White/Sofa Table - Housepitality Designs

The tall scrolled iron lamps there previously on the sofa table.

They have been relocated.

My hubby loves the lower profile of these lamps.

Ralph Lauren Lamps/Great Room - Housepitality Designs

I have to agree that I love the lower profile of these lamps on the sofa table too.

Not to mention, the colors.

Blue and White/Sofa Table - Housepitality Designs

As it is always the case, once you bring  something new into a room,

the domino effect happens. Things were moved around the house a bit.

Great Room - Housepitality Designs

Love that game of Dominos.

Great Room - Housepitality Designs

I have ditched Monopoly and Dominos has taken its place this week.

Come back and see the results of the game!

Have a great day!….As I write this post, the weather people say that,

“the sun will come out tomorrow” . . . I am counting on it!!

Absolutely perfect, they are so classic and always in style! Just think what you would have missed if you didn’t buy them! Wish we had a HomeGoods here in Wichita but that’s what I get for leaving Atlanta and moving home to Kansas! Hehehe! Anyway I love all my blue and white, have been collecting for years but can’t pass up more pieces, so I love love love your pieces! By the way I love your blog…I’m in the process of leaving the blog world because all the houses are starting to look the same but I’m keeping yours! I love your style and your home! Thanks so much for the inspiration….boy did I go on and on πŸ™‚

I’m glad temptation won Shirley, they are fabulous and look perfect! Dominos will forever be on my mind now when I rearrange, it’s so much fun to bring something new into a space and see what happens. HG is my downfall, things just run and jump into my cart…

Haha, I love how they jumped into your cart – I’ve had things jump into mine too, begging to come home with me. I really like these lamps – the size, shape, and color are so nice and look great in your room. I don’t blame you for breaking your rule! Have fun with the domino shuffle. πŸ™‚

Such beauties, Shirley! While visiting our son in Savannah last summer, I spied these lamps but passed them up! I have regretted it ever since! They look gorgeous where you have them. I have to say, I love what those dominoes do too! Love the direction they are “falling.” They are creating quite a lovely “landing.” (P.S. So glad you are feeling better.)

I see a trip to HG in my future! You know I love these! I have a smaller lamp in this line too, up in the guest room, on the dresser. These new ones look fabulous in your great room and you would have been so disappointed if you hadn’t gotten them! Hope the shingles are GONE!!!!

Hi Shirley, your post was the first email in my box. I popped it open and saw that you have added some of my very favorite lamps to your collection. I do agree with you and your hubby that the low profile is perfect in this room. Your collection is growing and is so beautiful! xx Jo

Shirley, I LOVE those lamps! I saw two large ginger jars from that collection at TJMaxx a few months ago. I’m still kicking myself that I didn’t snatch them up. But the lamps may be the very prettiest pieces from the line–good for you!

That was a good rule to break for this occasion! I don’t know what it is, but Ralph makes everything better:D Not to mention, I’m REALLY attracted to the blue in those lamps! Love the pattern!!! Maybe it’s because he throws in “indigo blue” with his stuff? If I’m going with blue at all…it’s gonna be indigo for sure! have a marvelous weekend, Shirley!
