A Fall Vignette with Antlers and Soft Glows

Several years ago, while shopping in one of my favorite furniture stores,

Arhaus, I came across a clearance bin filled with shiny silver items.

Upon close inspection, I discovered that they were long silver metal antlers.

With an original price tag of $49.00 each, they were clearanced at $10/each.

So two of them landed in my arms.

I used these antlers in many vignettes, especially during the Holidays.

However, I needed a change. I needed them to have a warmer look.

So what did I do? How did I make this happen? Rub and Buff!

The original metal antler was silver and I changed it to antique gold.

I decided to change up the centerpiece on the dining room table,

using the transformed antlers and some pinecones that I found on my walk the other day.

I wanted to achieve a soft glow to the table.

Adding the brass candlesticks with my Balsam Hill Miracle Flame Candles fit the bill.

On my walk the other morning I found some mini pinecones

that were still attached to a small branch and some with the needles also attached.

I think they blew off the trees from the winds of the hurricane.

Pinecones from my walk and others that I had in my stash,

were placed in my vintage “keep in the family” ironstone bowl

and placed on the vintage grain sack around the antlers and the  pumpkins.

I have  grown so fond of the faux flickering candles. So mesmerizing.

With a few changes, this vignette can be taken right into the winter and Holiday season.

My walk home with my hands filled with pinecones made me think about

sticking a plastic bag in my pocket just in case I come across more treasures!

Have you found anything interesting on your walks?

Off to take my morning walk (with a plastic bag in my pocket) as it is “falling pinecone season.”

Have a most incredible day!!!

  7. Shirley, a very pretty centerpiece! It’s hard to decide between silver and gold, isn’t it? I love both, and it varies, depending on how I’m styling. Yours looks handsome. And yes, I’m very often putting things in my pockets on walks, just yesterday adding a few acorns with their hats still attached!

  13. Ooh, I do love me a bargain, and you certainly found one! Love ’em more with the gold finish, I must say. We have pine cones aplenty in my yard, especially after a windy day. I also have a gumball tree *big mistake, planting that* and I’m going to string ’em for garlands at Christmas time. They’re pretty au naturale or spray painted gold.

Your vignette is a perfect interpretation of the sometimes overlooked beauty of fall. Rub and Buff perfected and softened your treasures. I love it. So pretty. My husband gathered some early fallen pine cones as a result of Hurricane Matthew. He knew I would use them in my fall decorating. I love the texture they bring to decor and the endless possibilities just like your creativity conveys. Thank you for sharing, Shirley!

  21. I’ve been wanting some antler for several years now. I like what you did with yours. Nice to learn about Rub and Buff. Your little pine cones are so cute and the way you styled your vignette is striking on your grain sack runner. I like your flickering candles too. I may have to copy your idea.

  22. I love it Shirley! I usually use “found” natural elements in my centerpiece, or any holiday decorations. Pine cones, shells, feathers, branches, they are all material to create some seasonal beauty, and paired with the French antiques I sell make for easy, beautiful vignettes.
