Housepitality Designs

it's all about the hospitable home

December 5, 2016 By Shirley

Deck the Halls in the Sunroom

When the Holiday season nears, I look forward to planning on how I want to

Deck the Halls in the Sunroom.

It is a room that I feel I can have fun with whatever theme I chose

for the Christmas season.

I decided to dress the dining room in my favorite Christmas traditions.

With that decision, I decided to do the same in the sunroom.

Filling it with happy memories of the past and present.

Actually it all started with a tree, as in the dining room. A beautiful tree.

This beautiful tree is  a 7 1/2 foot Kennedy Fir Snap Tree by Tree Classics,

our sponsor for this Tour of Christmas Traditions.

Christmas traditions in my home are all about memories of family and friends

during the Holidays. Memories we have created with those who are with us  and those

of loved ones we have sadly lost.  Memories we hold dear to our heart.

I remember many, many years ago one Christmas, my hubby went to my favorite shop

and bought this rocking horse that sits underneath the tree. He knew I loved that horse!

It is now wonderfully placed upon that gorgeous red quilted tree skirt also by Tree Classics.

I have to admit that I have an extensive amount of Christmas decorations

that I have collected over the years. The stems of hanging crystal berries

make for a great cascading topper  for the tree.

The cascading stems of crystal berries look beautiful against the ornaments.

Many of the ornaments on the tree were also provided by Tree Classics.

I love their vintage and traditional feel that enhances my tree of Christmas Traditions.

My sunroom … always a place to relax with a great cup of tea

and a favorite magazine!

This whimsical Santa on a Moose was a gift from a friend

to remind me of our travels to Wyoming, always looking out for Moose

for those Kodak moments. We finally saw one on the last day of our trip!

Last year, while in Pottery Barn looking for a pillow that fit the theme

for the back porch of snowmen, there were two to choose from.

My granddaughter was with me, and she chose the one that now sits on the chair. Memories.

With this vintage inspired Santa, there are memories of a group of us ladies

hitting the finer Christmas shops the day after Christmas for their super sales.

On the antique chest, which also has many memories, is an antique grain sack

that I purchased in France on a shopping/sightseeing trip with a great group of girl friends.

These handmade W-E-L-C-O-M-E blocks were found at a craft fair at least 30 years ago.

My lifelong friend Ruthie and I each bought a set of these. She is with the angels now,

and I treasure the memories of our school days, raising our kids, sending them off to

college, and then marriages and grandchildren.

All great memories we shared together with our families.

These felted wool Santas are ones that I made with these little ‘ole hands

at one of our Crafty Chicks gatherings. My friend Martha guided us through the

making of these. One of my very favorite things I made at Crafty Chicks!

I would definitely describe myself as a Traditionalist … an over the top Sentimentalist.

Christmas-Sunroom-Housepitality Designs

Sometimes I wonder if that is a good thing or not … but I am convinced

it is a good thing as I enjoy my Sunroom of Christmas traditions and memories.

We love Santa …. Do you Believe? Of course you do! The Season of Joy is magical.

Christmas-Sunroom-Housepitality Designs

And speaking of magical … the Snap Tree by Tree Classics can be in that category.

As it is truly magical that it can be set up from beginning to end in just minutes!!

Snap Tree Demonstration-Housepitality Designs

And here is my hubby to demonstrate!

Note: The tree comes in 2 sections. When you place the top section on the tree

it automatically lights up! No finding a plug to tie the two pieces together!

IT’S A SNAP!!!

Shirley, your sunroom is my favorite room and I just love how your tree looks in the corner! The tree topper you created is fabulous and it looks so nice with the red quilted tree skirt at the bottom. I would be in that room all the time, enjoying the view. Loved your stories of the different decorations and how meaningful they are, especially at this time of year.

Your sunroom looks so adorably cozy Shirley, and your snap tree is gorgeous! The vintage ornaments and decorations look wonderful with the buffalo check sofa and cute Christmas pillows! I heard HD has a tree that assembles itself with the push of a button, now that sounds like an easy way to do a tree. We still do things the old fashioned way with a huge real tree, full of ornaments the children have made, which is beautiful but it’s a huge hassle to keep it watered and the floor forever vacuumed 🙂 I did just buy a faux gold pencil tree for the dining room that I’m going to decorate exactly as I please, shhh…Looking forward to seeing all the tree this week and to get some inspiration!

OK, now I have a question: I am assuming after you get the tree up you do have to plug it in? Or it would be lit all the time. It was fun to see how the others decorated their trees too:)

Hey sweet friend. I was so tempted to get a tree this year, but I couldn’t bear the thought of decorating it all by myself.
Your sunroom is just as I would imagine it would be. The only thing that would make it better is me sitting there with your.

Shirley, you are speaking my language. I love a traditional Christmas with all the memories and sentiments. Your sunroom is just gorgeous…details are so perfect. I love that you have the rocking horse that your sweet hubby bought sitting under the tree, that is what makes Christmas meaningful. The woolen Santas that you made, your memories of you precious friend that is now gone all evokes so many special moments of a wonderful life! I would love to sit in your sunroom and share a cup of tea! Wishing you a wonder-filled week!
