it's all about the hospitable home

Rainy Day Christmas Decorating

Rainy day Christmas decorating was what I did yesterday.

Yes, it rained all day long!

However, that was OK, as I am still busy decorating the house

getting ready for a Christmas Home tour on Sunday.

The great room is almost done.

I have been working on the tree in that room

and it takes me almost two days to decorate it.

Here’s a sneak peek …

Not sure on the exact amount, but there is at least 1,000 ornaments on the tree.

Ornaments collected over many, many and lets say another many .. years.

I have many more ornaments stored away …

Mainly Hallmark ornaments that I used to put on our Media Room tree.

I no longer have the energy or time to decorate another large tree,

so those ornaments stay in their bins …

But the Byer Carolers have made a comeback in the decor.

The antique scale that I purchased from my friend Martha

has a conical shape on the right side of the scale …

perfect to tuck a little tree in it. Tree and vintage mini ornaments

also by Martha!

My partridge, one of my favorite of Christmas decor, sits on the

French buffet this year. I am still tweaking this vignette a bit.

Do you love a great reflection?

A boxwood wreath embellished with snowy berries placed on the mirror

that is in the stairwell across from the foyer. It reflects the foyer area.

I am granddog sitting this week …

I wish I can teach him how to decorate a tree.

He just sits back and watches me with a “wink” and a nod of approval . . .

and says have a “woof”derful day!!!

Yes, it’s been rainy here, too, but today there is not a cloud in the sky. I need to do something to my porch and I need to return things to the mall and I need to by groceries and I need to take pictures for blog posts……and. I need more hours in the day today because it is going to get bitterly cold tomorrow. Your grand dog is cute.

It rained here all day yesterday too so I got a small tree done in here, my office and the matching tree done for the front “porch”. Your tree is magnificent, can’t wait to see it all. Love that scale and the tree and partridge. Beautiful golden deer too!!!!

Everything is beautiful. I’m still looking desperately for the blue and white lamps. I scour sights every day and still no luck. I was going to treat myself for Christmas with a pair of them. Fingers crossed I’ll locate them soon. fondly ~ lynne ~

Oh Shirley your tree is gorgeous. Oh my gosh over 1000 ornaments I can see where that would take a few days to decorate with that many. So worth your time it is beautiful. Your little grand doggie is adorable. Enjoy all your decorating and getting ready for your home tour. I cannot wait.

Over 1000 ornaments on one tree! I can’t imagine! My husband surprised me this year and hung all the ornaments before I even got up, I was delighted, as I don’t seem to have the patience for it πŸ™‚ I Love Love your boxwood wreath with berries, perfect holiday simple elegance. I love your tree. I love that all ornaments are collected over the years. I think it is much more special that buying trendy ornaments all at once to create a “theme” tree. Memories are not always trendy but always dear to us. Your grandpuppy looks very sweet too. Another great post. Thank you.

Beautiful tree! I’m still fluffing mine…there are not enough hours in a day sometimes. Guess I’m taking the slow approach…either that or I’m getting old! It is bitter cold here….stay warm, I understand it’s heading South! Happy decorating! πŸ˜‰

The tree is so beautiful. I never counted all the ornaments on my tree but I don’t think it comes to as many as you have. It is quite a job but so worth it.
